I’ve been clean for nearly a day now. Here’s what it’s like. Posted: 21 May 2020 12:21 PM PDT This morning I sat down to my laptop to work from home and thought 'I need to be more productive today..' so without even scrolling through my inbox, squad screen or pressing spacebar, I clicked >save game and exit and FM was no longer running. No big deal. We've all been there. But then I managed to get through the WHOLE working day without having a cheeky match or browsing my fixtures or printing out my squad lists on paper to look like they were work-related.. (mostly because I had a busy day). Now it's 8pm and I'm 4 hours away from not playing FM for a whole calendar day for the first time in a few weeks. I'm thinking to myself, no big deal, I'll just go cold turkey and show myself I'm not addicted. I can go a DAY without playing. Hell, maybe I'll leave it for a week if I can put it down for a day. The problem is, I'm really into my save at this point. The last couple of nights I've fallen asleep replaying in my head goals my newgen striker James Few scored (he should be called James Loads).. who I need to rotate in to the squad to keep the squad fresh, etc etc. Does anyone else go through this sort of thing, and what strategies do you have for when it feels like the game is taking over? Underdog teams absolutely killing it. Posted: 21 May 2020 02:54 PM PDT Anyone got any unreal FM stories from teams they have either managed or the bots manage. Over the last seasons in my career save(I move around teams a lot) Crystal Palace have done unbelievably good. It's the year 2045 in my save. Been with Milan for the past 3 seasons. Hearts FC for 8 seasons before that. Palace were always sort of hanging around 10th, sometimes notching a decent finish in 8th. I started to notice they were regularly qualifying for the Europa League with 6th and 5th finishes in their last 3 seasons. They then hired Dedryck Boyata as manager and have absolutely skyrocketed in success since. They won the Europa League. Finished 3rd. The next again season they won the premier league and then won the Champions league and have the best players in the world on their team. I have checked a few of the transfers. Most of them are just good dealings. They did sign a striker from Forest for 95m but other than that most of their players are affordable to most clubs. I want to know Mr Boyata's secrets haha. Am I The Only One Who Doesn't Spam Regens? Posted: 21 May 2020 03:22 PM PDT Just from being a quiet observer mainly on this sub for a while I see an awful lot of posts boasting about the quality of regen you've just signed or how someone has signed 14 Regens from South America in one summer transfer window and then another 8 in January. It's got me thinking, am I the only one that plays the game what I'd define as realistically? By that I mean, signing the amount of players dependent on where I think the squad needs improving in line with the targets that the board and I set for myself in the coming season? I've been playing FM since FM05 and I don't think I've ever signed a bucket load of Regens in one window. It's not meant as a criticism just a general question? [link] [comments] | ||

Here's how I would improve the game! [Overhaul Coaching & Training] [Long] Posted: 21 May 2020 11:43 AM PDT Hello. I'm hoping Sports Interactive employees frequent this sub, I have a request. Please, please, please for the love of God, can we revamp the coaching and training? I've been playing since the original edition of Football Manager in the 2004/05 season. Before this, I had every edition of Championship Manager. So, I've seen many features come and over that time. Only once have Sports Interactive introduced an engaging coaching and training system, that was FM10. FM10's training system was so elegant, effective and engaging. All players were assigned to a general training schedule. You created a new schedule, dragged a slider to set intensity for Strength/Aerobic/Defending/Attacking training etc… and as you increased each slider had a Workload Intensity bar which increased with the added workload. You could create several schedules and assign attacking players to the more attack oriented schedule, defenders to a defending oriented schedule, players returning from injury to a lighter workload and this was all created and assigned by you the player. It was so simple and elegant. Over the subsequent years, this has been revamped, added to and become the current system that is too detailed oriented and for me isn't anywhere near as engaging. So, Here's my suggestions of how we can upgrade this area game for the better! On arrival at any new club, we have our meeting with a board member where you get a "Club History, Your team report, Best XIs, Transfer obligations, Club Vision, blah blah blah" as always. Then... At this point. Instead of being introduced to your Assistant Manager, can we have a proper Coaching Team Meeting? On initially joining a new club, this would be staff introductions where you can review who you have on board, advise them of your tactical approach, and assign the staff to their coaching duties (Attacking Tactical, Attacking Technical, Fitness Strength, etc) with your tactics and their suitability in mind. This would likely bring staff's own preferred formations and tactical styles in to play, possibly causing friction where you and your staff's alignments do not match up, or alternatively, over time staff could develop to align to your style. Adding a whole new dynamic to the game! Managing backroom staff is just as important as managing the playing personnel. For me, this would go on to be a Weekly or Monthly Coaching Review, and would play out just like board meetings. There would be interactions with each staff member at this meeting. It would essentially be sitting round a table with your coaching staff reviewing the previous month and setting points/training and performance targets for the upcoming week or month of fixtures. Your staff would highlight key areas of concern, injury reviews, any development or plateauing amongst your players, bring your attention to a key run of games and such. Your responses would alter the coming month's training schedule. To round up... The current training system as it is in FM20 has become to convoluted and has detail oriented that it completely misses the mark. It's become a click-and-hope-for-the-best. Opinions? My Really Average First Football Manager Career. [PART 8] Posted: 21 May 2020 04:08 PM PDT After yet another sacking, I was really not expecting to get another crack at the Derry City job again. I took a short 7-month break from football and returned mid-June after an offer from Derry City. Joining mid-season, there was no pressure on me whatsoever, so for once I could actually finish a season in Ireland. First up, I sign multiple players from Connah's Quay. They sacked me, so I took their best 2 players for a combined £70. Who would have thought that Toby Hay and Will Bellis would actually become some decent players in the future, with both combined at their peak worth £25 million? They did great things at Derry too, with Toby Hay becoming my star striker as soon as I signed, and scoring 8 goals in the remainder of the season. I yet again sold Derry's star player, this time Conan Hegarty to Crystal Palace for £300k. I didn't really learn from last time. I get to the Irish League Cup final, beating Dundalk in the semi's before yet again another loss, this time to Cork City, 3-0. 2 finals, 2 massive losses so far during my career. But there was clearly an improvement over the beginning of my managerial career. We lose in the quarter-finals of the Senior Challenge Cup and end up finishing 5th in the league. I was proud of this finish, after joining with Derry in the relegation play-off spot. I had to ruin it all in the summer though. I knew my side needed an overhaul, but looking back on it, signing 13 players for a combined £65,048, including another 2 players from Connah's Quay. I also sell pretty much all of the starters of last season, with 5 players leaving for a combined £556k. Transfer windows were clearly not my strong point, and by the mid-way point in my second season with Derry, we were in the relegation play-off spot yet again, and yet again I was sacked. I really needed to settle down at a club soon, and build something slowly, instead of trying to rebuild a full team in 1 transfer window. The next team I joined was my longest spell so far, with nearly 3 seasons in charge. Connah's Quay wanted me back, and this time I was here to stay. [link] [comments] |
