Let me be your Director of Football - details inside!

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 08:45 AM PST

So I love scouting in this game. It is by far my most favourite aspect of the game, and personally I think I'm damn good at it. So with that in mind - let me be your DoF and make your signings for you.

    How it works:

    • Send me a link to your save file

    • Tell me what position you want me to get, as well as what type of player you want.

    • Tell me your budget.

For example you might say, "I need two strikers. One should be a tall target man, and the other should be pacey and good at taking his man on. Your budget is £5m."

After that I will load up your save and bring in your players, and then send you your save back with the transfers made. :)

Edit: Obviously make it a little realistic. If you are Man City and want me to sign 3 first team players with a budget of 5m - it aint gonna happen.

Edit 2 - How to send your save: Your save file is located in your Football Manager 2020 folder in the "games" folder. You take your save file from there and upload it to a website such a mediafire or MEGA, and then send me the link once it is uploaded. I then download it and put it in to my local folders, and then repeat the process myself when I am finished and need to send it back to you.

Funny to see this in real life as it is one of the features in FM20 this year!

Heads up - there is a 20.1.0 beta version available via Steam Beta

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 04:11 PM PST

If you right click FM20 on Steam and go to the Beta tab, you can choose the 'public beta' which is actually a version 20.1.0 build, which is probably the release candidate for Nov 19th.

The match engine has improved and there are at least some bug fixes, along with a new database version.

Be warned, if you use any tools like FMSE or FMRTE, they are unlikely to work on this version.

Does playing a youth player too much when they are too young hinder development? (played every first team game after red line)

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 10:54 AM PST

I'd like to apologize to all the amateur teams from whom I've grabbed players in previous games

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 03:32 AM PST

I'm playing a save with Condeixa, a team in the Portuguese lower leagues. It's the first time I've picked a fully amateur team. And damn, it can have its frustrating moments.

In previous games, I often poached amateur teams for their stars at the start of the game. They were a good source of quality players at no cost. Being on the other side of the equation, I now see that... I was the baddie.

I don't think I've ever had a player turnaround as large as this one. I had players joining me at the start of the pre-season that left before the pre-season ended. I had critical players leaving the team just before a big match. I had multiple players leaving in the same week - one time, I lost 3 first teamers in the same week, out of the blue. Larger teams just came and grab them, and there's pretty much nothing I could do - afterall, they could offer them a wage, while I could only offer the opportunity to play for Condeixa. I kind of felt like those companies that ask for free web designers or writers in exchange for exposure.

Things didn't really improve when I turned semi-pro. It seems there's a bug in the beta that doesn't allow semi-pro teams to offer regular contracts. So I'm stuck with offering rolling contracts, with playing fees. This means nothing to teams who can actually pay their players, so I keep losing players. I only get some sort of stability from loanees or from teams who buy a player but have to wait to register them - until then, he's on my team. I've managed to get some amazing players to play for Condeixa, like Enzo Peréz, only to have them leave as soon as they were finally making the difference.

This also wreaks havok on my youth squad. Any decent prospects from my two youth intakes are long gone, moving on to teams who can actually pay'em something. That 16 years old kid who looked like he could be a club legend that I gave a first team chance? Gone. Long gone.

In the midst of all of this, I'd like to give a shoutout to Merlin Tandjigora. He's become an influent member of the team, he became the captain and he's been around for over an year (which is an incredible record). I'm not sure how long I'll be able to keep him around, but... your loyalty is appreciated, Merlin!

Hopefully at least the semi-pro bug will be sorted out in the final release. Playing as an amateur team is tough. Having the same thing occur with semi-pro teams is also hellish. Having a board refusing to turn professional even though you've got promoted to the Second League... mega ouch.

If you're looking for a challenge, amateur teams can certainly provide it.

The peculiar tale of Feyenoord Rotterdam and the case of bungled player interaction

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 09:29 PM PST

Yeah, so sorry for the wall of text. I don't blame you if your mouse is moving towards the back button at breakneck speeds at the moment. Anyway, I'm playing Feyenoord in FM2020, as I saw suggested in the "Who to manage" thread. One thing I have noticed, apart from all of my players' phobia of crosses (which has been discussed to death by others), is significantly more cases of extremely clunky and nonsensical player interaction. I'll attempt to outline some of it below.

CASE 1: At the start of season 2 now and I have this brazilian DM, Thomas Belmonte. He suddenly decided that he wants to move to a bigger club despite joining only 6 months ago. Oh well, I only paid 1.7mil for him and I have way too many DMs anyway. Plus his market value is 13million, so I should be able to get some profit out of it, right?

I have the chat with him and promise that i'll let him leave, we agree on a valuation of 15.5 million and that's that.

Repeatedly, over the transfer window, I use the "offer to clubs" option to offer him out at the agreed price, yet nobody makes an offer (maybe you're not as good as you think tommy). All was well and fine until I reach the end of the transfer window and he isn't sold. Unlike the usual response, where he would say "I'm disappointed but I realise you have tried your best to offer me out" (which I did at least 5 times) he comes at me saying "Why didn't you offer me out? What's going on?" and there is no conversation option to say "oi mate I did what are ya on about?"

So now the entire squad has gathered around him and are demanding an explanation, and morale as a whole is lower of course because apparently nobody has a brain. Straight to the B team he went...

CASE 2: Ah, Lutsharel Geertruida. Last season he was out on loan to some second division side. In the off season, due to how well he has developed and the sale of my former main RB, I give him the squad status of "Regular Starter." All is going well, he starts the first 6 games of the season.

Then... good old FC Dordrecht, bottom of the second division, come in with a loan offer for him, with the playing time offered being squad player. When I reject it because obviously i'm not letting my 3 star CA 5 star PA first choice RB leave on loan, he comes to me saying "Why didn't you accept the loan offer? I need first team experience at a higher level to further my development" and of course there is no conversation option to say "You are a vital part of our plans this season," only options along the lines of "sorry mate i'll accept the next one that comes along" or "deal with it I don't care" which will obviously make him more depressed than an emo 13 year old. I just told him he's going nowhere and his morale is "Devastated"... sorry if I stopped you from achieving your dreams of getting relegated from the Keuken Kampoen Divisie my man but i'm pretty sure I'm doing the best thing for you...

CASE 3: The tale of the stupidest goalkeeper(s) I've ever encountered. So it's January of the first season. An offer comes in for my 34 year old, 3 star, declining goalkeeper Kenneth Vermeer for around 6 million - he's only valued at 2. Considering he only has 6 months left on his contract and I was going to let him leave for free anyway, of course I accept it!

The real reason I was so happy to get rid of him was because of the fact that my backup keeper was Justin Bijlow, 3 star CA and 4.5 star PA, 21 years of age - could be a star for us if he got some playing time.

Vermeer leaves, Bijlow plays a few games as starting keeper, and only then does this madlad have the audacity to come up to me and demand some form of apology for selling Kenneth Vermeer since "The team could have benefited greatly from his skills" and "we will be worse off without him"...

    Justin mate...

    you just insulted yourself

What isn't funny though is the fact that no matter what I said he decided that he too was going to be devastated about it, and of course talk to his friends about it. You'll never guess who else came up to me to question the sale... yeah just kidding it was Joey Koorevaar, my new backup keeper who I had just promoted to the first team because of Vermeer's sale. Not a single other squad member ever asked why I sold him. Bijlow, despite having been our first team keeper for over half a season since the event still hasn't recovered emotionally, with his morale still never having gotten above 50 percent.

TL:DR Player interaction has been terrible for me, but is this normal for the game/beta? I realise that it has turned into a slight bit of a rant, so i'll try and refocus on my main question. Is anyone else experiencing this more in the new game? Was I just really lucky over the past few years in that I've never experienced this? Is this stuff normal for the beta even though it doesn't even seem like anything has been modified since last year? And does anyone else have any moderately amusing stories of 'interesting' player interactions?

I didn't go into this planning to rival War and Peace in terms of length so if you stuck through my mediocre writing I appreciate it, and i'd love to hear any responses on the matter.

    Cheers

The 1860 München Story After Me

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 01:32 AM PST

The 1860 München Story After Me

So I don't know of anyone else does this, but after managing 1860 München for 19 years, getting them from the 3rd league to the bundesliga and winning 5 titles and 2 champions leagues in the progress I decided to resign and watch how they would progress in a 5 year period. The results were amazing!

1860 Münich winning the league 8 times in a row

Miroslav Klose took over as manager and won 2 out of 2 Bundesliga's, extending 1860 Münich's dominance over the Bundesliga. After Klose, a guy named Pál Dárdai took over winning another 3 Bundesliga titles, extending it to 8 straight Bundesliga wins in a row.

1860 Münich winning 4/5 champions leagues

The dominance of 1860 Münich extend to Europe, winning 5 out of the last 6 champions leagues reaching the final every single time in the last 6 years! It was a joy to see that the managers after me improved on the foundations I had build.

    Patrick Fachner 1860 München striker

    Patrick Fachners stats

I would like to highlight 2 players that I loved in this save. First of all: Patrick Fachner. I had trouble scoring goals in this save, probably because i am not that good and I expect 19 year old to score 20+ goals a season. I learned that FM19 was different from this aspect from FM18 were a 19 year old would score 30+ goals a season for me with ease. I decided to mentor this kid with patient, giving him the right traits and mentoring enviroment because i knew he would be great, and he turned out to be amazing. He scored at least 30 goals a season after me. He finished my last season as a 22 year old with 29 goals and he finished the last season as a 27 year old with 35 goals.

    Felipe Gaspar

    Felipe Gaspars stats

Felipe Gaspar is the second player I want to highlight. I will be short about him: He was just amazing. Great attacking midfielder and the first player I got to work in my 4-2-3-1 formations as a attacking midfielder (again I struggled this year).

And then, the biggest achievements of the managers that came after me. The power to actually let youngster play games in the 1860 München 2nd team. I don't know how they did it because if I would throw them in the 2nd team they wouldn't play games, but they managed to do it:

    1860 München 2nd team

I Know it is a stupid thing that I am suprised about, but I really have no clue how they managed to achieve this :-)

In summary: I am really proud of my work and what they achieved after me. This game was a struggle for me compared to FM18 but I enjoyed the journey and i hope FM20 is going to be even better for me! I would love to hear about your guys achievements in FM19! Cheerz.

SACKED not challenging for silverware AFTER winning FA Cup 5th round game...Club vision at least B+ for everthing else

    FM19 Developing youngsters.

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 04:48 PM PST

So for the first time ever in my football manager career I've started to get some cracking youngsters through. I'm going to focus on three different players here and hopefully someone can advise me because it's safe to say I haven't got a clue!

Kieran Wardrope 16 Lewis McIntyre 19 Kyle Naismith 22

So Kyle Naismith came in with the could emerge as one of the best players of their generation message. He was regarded as potential 5 stars by coaches with judging PA 20. He's at 3 stars current ability and showing as having 4 stars potential now. I get that's probably down to my training etc but it's not so much development that's my issue here.

Lewis McIntyre came through with the same message. Potential 5 stars. Currently 3 but at a better age than Naismith. Potential Ability 20 rated coaches think he's still going to be a 5 star player and 'could improve significantly in the future.'

Kieran Wardrope has just come through with the 'could be the best to come through the ranks in recent years' and is in the same boat as the first two in terms of potential. His current ability is 2.

I've found over the 12 seasons I've been in charge of Celtic I've probably had over a hundred players with potential five stars but no one ever made it there and as I've acknowledged my training probably makes me the kind of manager that would be better off buying proven quality. But since not even one lucky player made it to four and a half five stars I wanted to delve deeper. So I downloaded a third party scout thing.

Kyle Naismith and Lewis McIntyre who are both rated 5 star future players by coaches with 20 judging potential and are both said to probably increase significantly in the future look like this,

    Lewis McIntyre CA - 142 | PA - 150 Kyle Naismith CA - 144 | PA - 152

I just don't understand how my coaches are of the belief that there is two stars worth of improvement to come when in both cases it is only 8 points. Not to mention the fact they've been hailed since they were recruited as potential world class players! Am I doing something wrong? Does PA change have I ruined their careers?

The silver lining is Kieran Wardrope has a PA of 196 🤙🏼
