I just rage quit for the first time since FM15

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 12:54 PM PDT

I'm in my 14th season with Leganés and my games against Barcelona are always a nuisance. I reach the 11th game of the 2032-33 season with 10 games played 10 games won and Barcelona second with 9 wins and 1 draw. These games against Barcelona are always tense and in these 14 years with Leganés I have already won the league 4 times.

Now with the match, we are leading 0-2 in Camp Nou until the 85th minute where Barca had not created any dangerous situations. They scored a goal in the 85th minute, part of the game. I check my tactics to verify that I'm with a neutral tactic. The goal was a set piece. Then 1 minute later they scored again, 2-2, penalty goal. 1 min later another goal from a corner 3-2 min 87. I put the team in attacking tactics to see if we can at least draw but the game ends and my anger is so great that I press Alt + F4. Not my best moment in FM. I've lost 27 times before against Barcelona, but never like this.

After reloading, I play again and win 0-1, but still upset, first for losing the first game and second for reloading. Just sharing this with you.

Possibly the maddest 16 year old I’ve seen on FM. £10million plus £7 million in instalments... worth it?

My best penalty taker cannot score penalties. He is one of my best players for many years but for some reason he gets cold feet when he is stepping up to take the penalty and has cost me a few wins. I don't know what to do does anyone have any suggestions?

    Moscow school of football Pt3

There were a few people who still enjoyed the part 2, so this ones for you haha

    https://preview.redd.it/gf2euqofxak71.png?width=181&format=png&auto=webp&s=c9d7ed70e5260f1d8b558d8f0f9b4f405d2defe7

This is our third season with Russian outfit Chertanovo Moscow, a team that cannot sign players in any way. After barely scraping League safety last year, i had a little more optimism coming into this year. A lot of our young players were growing, while the CB situation isnt ideal, its not the end of the world, maybe i'd get some good ones in this years youth intake

    https://preview.redd.it/l5j13f6txak71.png?width=3422&format=png&auto=webp&s=6123909b5cf41bf86f435b3012500ec2ae7be033

Coming into season we are large favourites to get relegated, once again they have 0 faith in us. I know from last season that we are better than a few of the teams in this division, so if we can get results against them, we should be fine. Before the season started, i put a hard focus on staff, now that the coaching wages are much higher than they were. I was able to finally get the best coaching staff in the league ahead of the new season.

    https://preview.redd.it/u0fty0s3yak71.png?width=1251&format=png&auto=webp&s=4921806496f4f10644d74152e730722fdb139272

This is the team I had decided on going into the season, fuck it, attack is the best form of defence.

The first half of the season, before the winter break, went outstandingly well for us. Winning out first game against newly promoted Khimiki, go on to win 5 more games and draw one before the winter break came upon us. These wins were all against teams who were in and around us in Ural, Ufa, Sochi, Arsenal Tula, Krlija Sovetov and the previously mentioned Khimiki. Though the gulf in class between us and the better teams was still evidently massive, losing comfortably to the other 4 Moscow teams and Zenit St.Petersburg. This left us flying high in 7th in the table! Comfortably clear of automatic relegation, but we were quite reliant on Smirnov to keep us in games, outstanding little keeper.

    https://preview.redd.it/v4y9z0vf0bk71.png?width=3433&format=png&auto=webp&s=ec7307ebc544363e2c0df41a1c3896e9919b1e91

Also pleasantly surprised to see Saveljev winning the Russian young player of the year! Really has carried us through the save so far, still banging in the goals this season too.

    https://preview.redd.it/xbhtvzlm0bk71.png?width=2295&format=png&auto=webp&s=a3a4cbebb2f48158725f3af9b7cb9f9860185a76

A decent looking intake preview. Not filled to the brim with average wingers that we dont use like the previous 2 years. Though no good defensive players by the looks of things, bolstering the attacking part of the side more, but it looks like we will still be defensively weak.

    https://preview.redd.it/z5spaa1dzak71.png?width=2513&format=png&auto=webp&s=a3cb2bfc9c1d985a9feae4d8452ffb84b76e3014

I dont think ive ever seen a 3 1/2* player in the youth intake.... Some very good players here, but again, all attacking, we still look to be defensively weak with maybe one possible future squad player CB in this intake.

    https://preview.redd.it/9vj3rmrlzak71.png?width=3429&format=png&auto=webp&s=30704bc06564599ae3f6ef70e4997bc129613779

Here he is, the 15 year old first teamer (even though im no stranger to playing 15 year olds). He looks very good and will be coming straight onto the bench as a backup forward for Yudin and Saveljev. He is a little short but hes quick and has decent technicals for a 15 year old in the Russian league, very excited about this lad.

    https://preview.redd.it/uvkjsl1wzak71.png?width=3432&format=png&auto=webp&s=6e14e361ace2004dba946c519155d1301fc4c200

Heres another player worth a quite mention. Probably wont be coming up to the first team but looks like he could be a decent player in a few years.

    https://preview.redd.it/7fr641600bk71.png?width=3438&format=png&auto=webp&s=7d9675ccf491b909b7ef59ce6769a43cfeb02388

Another decent looking keeper! He probably wont be coming into the efirst team due to how well Smirnov has been playing, but a very useful player.

    https://preview.redd.it/jj7p69vo0bk71.png?width=3433&format=png&auto=webp&s=d559f8517be34c6cadbe2273268176da0be12dc1

Final player of note that im excited about, retraining him as an AP(att) and he looks quite decent, not breaking into the first team anytime soon, but decent none the less.

Our second half of the season was just as impressive as our first, winning 7 games and drawing one. Beating all the teams near and around us quite well, with Smirnov saving basically everything and us scoring the shots we have. Again losing quite badly to all the bigger teams in the division, including a 4-1 loss to Zenit St.Petersburg. Our draw being a 3-3 draw against Ufa.

    https://preview.redd.it/0y55xxla1bk71.png?width=541&format=png&auto=webp&s=fcb57a0e8d86ecc22a99562d1b3d8496f2eb651f

Boom. 8th place. Comfortably clear of the relegation places by 19 points. What an incredible season from the lads. Saveljev once again the second top scorer in the division and our player of the year.

While this looks to be super impressive, which it its to a degree, this was only really achieved by beating teams that we should be beating if we want to stay up. The gulf in class between us and the people above us is huge. We got 0 out of 42 points in our games against the top teams and our defence is incredibly weak. We conceded 65 goals this season, only better than Khimiki who finished last. This included 7 from corners and 8 from indirect freekicks. With no outstanding centre halves i dont see this getting better for next season.

    https://preview.redd.it/a42a0sn62bk71.png?width=1227&format=png&auto=webp&s=258f1aa14da50cd8947f213580ba57a4d476280c

This is the team that ended the season. With Kombarov and Smirnov breaking into the midfield from our first ever youth intake. They are not the best rated, nor have the best stats, but they defiantly took their chance when it came to them. The poor relationships can only really be explained from the pumpings against the massive teams, my players could cure cancer together and still "perform poorly in their roles". The start of last seasons youth intake Demidov becoming a regular late in the season, with Yudin (the star of the first intake) being crucial all season. Also Budunov is decent, didnt even know he existed until the winter break, woops.

    https://preview.redd.it/tenkdcbr2bk71.png?width=3422&format=png&auto=webp&s=0b1ab4b93c729d245d31306e48be12e330a4803a

    https://preview.redd.it/hg1ltitt2bk71.png?width=3434&format=png&auto=webp&s=0f13ce2fd19088ca71db7703b2f455a2a9253520

Next season threatens to be another tasty one. A lot of our young guns, most concerningly Yudin and Demidov, are wanting to move to bigger clubs, so keeping hold of them may be close to impossible coming into the next season. Also there have been a few takeover rumours, and apparently our Manging director is looking to leave, which could be Interesting.

Thats the end of season 3! if you do want me to keep going please say, and it you want me to shut up, also say. I hope you've enjoyed reading this, i tried to make it a little more detailed on the player front

    Roles Guide

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 06:33 AM PDT

This follows up on my previous guide where I discuss team instructions. Some of the things in that guide help make you understand this one

    https://www.reddit.com/r/footballmanagergames/comments/pcnvu0/guide_to_team_instructions/

Roles - roles tell a lot about what a team is generally going to end up doing, a lot of them actually do similar things. There are subtle differences with certain roles being very close yet diverging to a different class altogether. Roles cannot change classes with a change in duty, whether on attack, support or defend duty they will still stay true to their nature. That being said, there is also ways to get players to behave in a way more attune to another class, as well as the players who play these roles also have a say in what they do, and as you may have read in my previous guide on team instructions, there are other factors that determine their behaviour, some of which we cannot control.

The 7 Types of Role Classes

The order of these classes matches up with the mentalities, this is the mentalities these roles prefer. This should be taken with a grain of salt since the opponent exists and will punish the mentality you select and the your overall tactic might also prefer you play another mentality.

Finishers - Aims to win through waiting for an opportunity to score, relying on lethal finishing, and movement.

Direct - Wins through forcing the issue, running at or moving straight towards goal, relying heavily on physical ability. It also needs raw skill and or final third intelligence

Playmakers - Aims to win through the creation of space, primarily for others. Relying on intelligence above all else.

Allrounders - Alternates between roles based on circumstances or based on tactical instructions

Controllers - Aim to win through dictating the game, using skill, intelligence and or physical ability

Transitional - Aims to win by performing the duties of defence and supplementing the attack, protecting the team and offering support

Stoppers - Looks to position in such a way as to deny opportunities and goals from the opponent, needing clinical defensive ability.

    Why do these classes matter

The reason why they matter is that they suit different tactical syles better, and should be used to further get players doing what fits the tactic. Another thing is that if you find yourself using several roles from one class, then don't be surprised when your attack is stagnant, or your defence concedes to the same move.

    The Finishers

This class has roles whose job it is to score, nothing more, nothing less. Although they can do more, and that more is usually just pressing the opponent. These roles do not deny space or track they can only really try to win the ball and with the right player and instructions, they might put great effort into that. If however, you force them to work hard, they might find themselves not being in a position to do what you put them on the field to do, *to score!*. They are usually passive on the ball but will be very aggressive in their positioning offensively.

    Direct Attackers

This class has roles whose job it is to carry the ball forward and get in a position to score. While what they do after carrying the ball varies with some of them inclined to actually score, others try to create. This approach means these roles can be primary threats at times, racking up goals and assists however that means their defensive effort is also limited to pressing. They are however the best pressers combining a need to be higher up the pitch with mobility and work rate. While they can trackback, it's not something that should be counted on. These roles can also be wasteful but that can be worth it if they continually keep breaking through defences and you have players to cover for their failed attempts.

    Playmakers

This class is made up of roles that primarily look to make opportunities by finding players in space, another secondary function these roles have is to not lose the ball, at least not easily. Now firstly these opportunities can be through an assist or a pass to assist, racking up key passes throughout the season. While just like Direct class, they can be wasteful. It is worth the risk if they keep finding players in space. This role's level of playmaking also alternates with some playmakers being able to score themselves and others almost never looking to score unless it's an easy opportunity. Defensively this class varies with some playmakers able to contribute heavily to pressing and covering space, while others (I am looking at you TQR) can be made to press but will not put immense effort into it. They can sit back sometimes since they are smart enough to read play, although it's not something they are usually good at.

    The Allrounders

This class probably needs explaining, so the all-rounders can play in any tactical system. These roles do not really have anything about them that stands out (CF anomaly) due to them being good at some things but not being brilliant enough to be a distinct role. The CF anomaly is the fact that the complete forward is a role normally limited to the better players, yet unlimited in what it's allowed to do. While I do believe anyone with the right attributes can play this role, I do feel that this role is the role you give a striker when they are so good that you never want to think about them for the rest of the season. The other all-rounders are very customisable, so hence why they fit so well into most tactical systems, they can be adjusted based on the situation, the player, the opponent or all of the above. The weakness allrounders have is that their behaviour is hard to really control, since they kind of do a lot of random things, again you can control all of this, but if you find yourself adding 4,5 player instructions to these, (or just want your CF to do something specific) then why not just play (insert ideal role here) instead.

    Controllers

This class has roles that look to deny the opponent (space or possession) while also dictating how the team plays. These roles essentially pride themselves on efficiency, they win the ball or keep it or both. It however is aware of when it should also cover space. Able to switch between closing players down and holding back. The issue is going forward these roles find themselves offering nothing in the way of a direct threat, while they are usually involved in the attack (sometimes heavily), they never really threaten to score themselves and that makes it much easier to predict what they will do.

    Transitional

This class prioritises denying space and closing gaps. They work hard in doing their jobs and this work is not limited to defensive duty but also carries over into transitioning themselves from defence to attack. These roles are known for running the full length of the pitch several times, but they are also good at defending. Offensively these roles just make sure they are involved, they make themselves an extra body and have no real preference for what they do. This means you cannot rely on them offensively because they normally do not have the attributes required to be successful in that department.

    Stoppers

This class looks to stop the opponent from scoring, it is that simple really. Going forward this class has a variety of options since it can be one that lumps the ball forward or one that keeps it for a bit. With a class like this, however, they have one thing in common and that is they do not go forward, they do not support attacks and they will keep their distance. This means fewer bodies in the attack and that severely limits scoring opportunities. The bonus however is that should you lose the ball, players from this class make it difficult for the opponent to take immediate advantage. In terms of defensive styles, this class is great at defending for quite some time, due to their good defensive ability, and they are particularly poor at covering the ground as they are normally immobile, so pressing is not something they would usually be good at.
