Please use this thread as a place to ask questions that are specific to your save, such as:

    • "Why is my tactic not working?"

    • "What role should I play this player in?"

    • "I have £xxm to spend, who should I buy?"

If you are asking for tactical help/advice, please post an image of your formation and what insutructions/roles you have set.

As a rule of thumb, if you ask a question, answer a question. This is what keeps this thread alive and useful.

Also, please remember that the team suggestion thread can be found in the sidebar, so please use that and give your suggestions to people there too!

Me: It's simple, all I want you to do is shoot less often and work the ball into the box. My right back:

There's always one old fucker that you're paying 70k p/w that just keeps rejecting deals from other clubs.

Depressing career for such a talent.

    Posted: 11 May 2022 01:01 AM PDT

Hell of a season. literally, this was no fun at all.

    Posted: 10 May 2022 11:31 PM PDT

Yeah, I know, there are greater masterminds out there, but I just need to tell someone about my misery, and then I'll keep on loosing.

I took over my favorite club (VfB Stuttgart) in January, 2024. They did not play a good season, in January, they've been P16. But tbh, that's not a problem, as their new coach (a ka me) will save them from everything. (this have been my words back then. god, I have been wrong.)

It's now June, and we ended in P15, missing relegation playoffs only due to a better goal difference.

in the 17 games I coached,

    - the opponent scored with their first shot in 10 games.
    - my xG was higher than opponents in 13 games (I know, xG blablabla)
    - in one single game, I scored more goals than expected
    - in no fu...ing game, the opponent goalkeeper had a rating below 7.1

and no, I do not need tactic tipps or whatever, I know how to play the game. I just had bad luck this time.

and yes, my squad was P15 worthy, we did not had a single true striker.

you may downvote me now, I know how to suffer, I inherit pain as a functional part of my misery.

When the player you're trying to sign accepts a deal with a team 2 divisions lower than you and for a wage 50k p/w less.

POV: You sit in disbelief for 15 minutes staring at your screen after staying up all night to bottle playoffs

How do you make money in the VNN/VNS?

    Posted: 10 May 2022 03:14 PM PDT

With the announcement of Man City signing Haaland, it just makes you ask - how fucking hard are they going to be to beat in FM23!

    Posted: 10 May 2022 07:42 AM PDT

Me: What style of football are you looking to implement? Board: Yes.

    Posted: 11 May 2022 06:44 AM PDT

I just won the Premier League with West Ham in my second season - is the game too easy?

    Posted: 10 May 2022 05:30 PM PDT

Only Richarlison, Renato Sanches, Werner, Almada, and Mbabu have come in. Surely that shouldn't be enough to take down the likes of City and Liverpool right? Am I a tactical genius, did I get lucky, or is the game just too easy?

How did contracts work pre-Bosman ?

    Posted: 11 May 2022 02:39 AM PDT

I'm not sure if this is the right subreddit b I figured you guys would know.

Google searching this seems to give no answers except explain what Bosman did to change the ruling, so hopefully someone can explain. How did the contracts of players work pre Bosman?

What I mean is - were players literally fully controlled by the club, and they could not leave even when their contract expired? What if a player wanted to retire, or just refused to play?

The main questions I have are:

    1. Did this mean the club could control their contract? Ie. It is stated that when Bosman asked to leave, they slashed his wages by 75% - how was this legal, and if they could control the contract length AND wage, why not just cut everyone's salary, if they can't leave anyway? Why not just slash everyone's salary to £1?

    2. There was still "contract negotiations" for contracted players pre Bosman - what were they negotiating?? If the club could control the wage / force the player to stay, what was there to negotiate? If the club offered you XYZ amount and you wanted more, but they could just force you to take it anyway, what were you even negotiating?

    Thanks in advance!

Is anyone else as bad at FM22 as I am? I make Solksjaer look like Sir Alex 🙁

    Posted: 11 May 2022 01:51 AM PDT

Tried a variety of saves with a variety of teams, ALWAYS sacked by Christmas 🤷🏼‍♂️

Admittedly the last FM I played before this was FM2007 - life, kids etc.. got in the way and FM22 is my ignominious return to the franchise.

My latest is a Cardiff City save. Tried 442, 433, 532, direct play, short passing possession play, you name it, and I either scrape a draw against teams lower than me at best, or get battered by teams better than me 🤷🏼‍♂️

I've just been sacked mid November while just a point above relegation where my target was a top half finish.

I even lost to Cambridge United at home in the Carabo Cup, ending their 5 match losing streak, and they were bottom of league one at the time.

Am I the worst manager in FM history, or is there a knack to this game I'm not getting? FM2007 was never this hard to succeed! 😭

Why does man city suck in game?

    Posted: 10 May 2022 04:38 PM PDT

Does man city suck in anyone else's game or is it just mine? They always get top talent, great development facilities for youth players and senior team players.

After the first 2 seasons they just seem to drop off and barely get into Europa league

Go into player instructions and set your forwards to "shoot less often".

    Posted: 10 May 2022 10:19 AM PDT

I mean it. Go and do it now. I can't remember who posted this tip in one of the comments, but you're the MVP bro. My forwards actually resemble how IRL players would behave, even squared it for a tap in while going 2 vs 1. Amazing!

How football manager made me fall in love with a Northern Irish football team

    Posted: 11 May 2022 12:19 AM PDT

Hi guys. Just wanted to tell you a little-big story. I'm from Italy and I've played FM since 2012. I was in middle school and got my first smartphone. I found the existance of this game called Football Manager. At that time the "mobile" version was called Football Manager Handheld. It was love at first sight. I downloaded it and started playing some careers. One with my favourite football team(AC Milan) and another one with the local football team(3rd tier in Italy). But slowly I started to get bored, I wanted to try something new. I suddenly started to search for some strange leagues. At that time except the most famous leagues there was not much choice. I chose to start in Northern Ireland and specifically with a team called Linfield. A quick look to their history and current players and went on this journey. I remember that I played a lot of seasons, I was in love with them. I also noticed that the game I was playing was a mobile version of a bigger game called Football Manager. But I didn't have a PC so I was forced to continue playing on my phone. Something changed in Christmas 2014 when I received a PC from my family and guess what? The first ever game I played was Football Manager 2014. And of course I had to play a career as a Linfield manager. I was slowly becoming more and more interested in the history of "The Blues from Belfast". I played FM14 for a long time, but never consistently. To be honest, I was interested in the real team but it was impossible to watch their games from Italy so the love story was "suspended", the only way i got updates was from a soccer app on my phone. And it was so until FM2019 and the first lockdown here in Italy(February to May 2020). I downloaded some updates for the db and started my longest career with the team. From 2019 to 2028. I won everything in Northern Ireland and managed to consistently pass the group stages of the Champions League. This was until I decided to change from 19 to 20 in order to have ECL as I thought that the new cup might have helped winning something in Europe. And then… another semi-lockdown in 2021 and me being tested positive in january 2022. These events helped me achieving another long career(8 years or so). This was my best career considering the european successes.(Winning at home it's pretty easy to be honest). I managed to reach quarter finals in the CL and a final in the EL. During that time something changed also in my "real" relationship with the team. I found that it was possible to watch the matches via the BBC website and that a football website in Italy had the rights to broadcast the NIFL premiership. I was elated. For the first time in my relationship I was able to support my team in every league game. I started following also their social. And now comes probably the best part. When I was forced to be closed in my room this january I decided to order the current home shirt. It was a way to consolidate my love for this mostly unknown(outside of UK)football team. I also discovered an instagram page of an Italian fan club of Linfield. Now I will probably start another career in FM2021 just after the real team has become the most successful football team in the world(56th title). And yes, I'm also thinking to travel to Belfast to visit the city and, of course, watch a Linfield match.

Thank you for reading my story, I hope you enjoyed it. Sorry for some english mistakes.

For anyone who still plays CM9798 - couple years ago someone hacked CM2E16 on Twitter and you can now play beyond the 30 season limit. I am on season 51.
