Please use this thread as a place to ask questions that are specific to your save, such as:

    • "Why is my tactic not working?"

    • "What role should I play this player in?"

    • "I have £xxm to spend, who should I buy?"

If you are asking for tactical help/advice, please post an image of your formation and what insutructions/roles you have set.

As a rule of thumb, if you ask a question, answer a question. This is what keeps this thread alive and useful.

Also, please remember that the team suggestion thread can be found in the sidebar, so please use that and give your suggestions to people there too!

My diagnosis of major problems for long term saves

    Posted: 22 Feb 2022 08:58 AM PST

    Hello everyone,

I'm Invector, a humble gamer from Turkey, who likes long term saves in FM (and most other games too). I had played a Galatasaray game in FM 2017 I even made a blog about it and I played it until 2079.

With FM2022, I picked Diósgyőri Vasgyárak Testgyakorló Köre from Hungarian Division II for my long term save. I played until 2074. Please note that this will be a long read, so please bear with me.

I won the Hungarian League 44 times, Hungarian Cup 42 times, European Champions Cup 25 times and broke Real Madrid's record for it, won European Super Cup 22 times, and other cups. I also managed Hungary for a couple of years, and won the World Cup with Hungary in 2038.

Currently, Diosgyör is the number 1 club in terms of both Reputation and European Coefficients. We also have one of the biggest stadiums in the world with 88,278 seats.

Now, since we established the base for my diagnosis, let's cut to the chase.

    Dynamic Youth Rating

Dynamic Youth Rating isn't a myth. Youth rating changes, but it's not something the player can effect properly. I have played my save for 52 years and Hungary's youth rating changed maybe 10 points. I waited for it to change for many years, but even after I won the Champions League 5 times in a row and won the World Cup with Hungary, seeing it not change frustrated me so I imposed my rule and edited the youth rating for my save. However, if a club from Hungary is winning more Champions League titles than any other club in the world, the youth rating MUST improve. Why else would we do nation building saves otherwise?

To give some info about this, I will give you 4 examples, I'll censor them so you can guess them.

Brazil, league was added to my database from the start as playable, current world ranking 2nd, youth rating starts at 163, and in my save it is now 163

Belgium, league was added to my database from the start as playable, current world ranking 1st, generated and still generates world class players, even produced a Belgian Messi, World Cup Winner 2022 and 2046, Runner up 2038, European Football Championship Winner 2040, Runner up 2024, 2060, youth rating starts at 120, and in my save it is now 123

Germany, league was added to my database from the start as view only, current world ranking 58th, didn't generate worth anything until I switched the league from view only to playable, and then produced a number of world class players including a 200 PA midfielder in 2 years, meanwhile the National team sucked, FC Bayern won Champions League in 2021, 2028, 2031, 2034, 2043 and 2049, also Dortmund won one in 2026, youth rating starts at 155, and in my save it is now 190

England, league was added to my database from the start as view only, current world ranking 4th, generated world class players constantly, won World Cup in 2042 and 2070, Runner up in 2034, Won European Football Championship in 2036 and 2048, Runner Up in 2028, also were very successful in Champions League with Liverpool winning in 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, 2030, 2032, 2033 and 2060, Chelsea winning it in 2035, 2042, 2051, 2053 and 2054, Man City winning it in 2037, and Arsenal winning it in 2066, and as many as 50 runner up places, youth rating starts at 135, and in my save it is now 165

Can you understand my frustration in this? Nations successful in neither club level nor national level improved their youth ratings at all, not to mention Hungary with me winning 25 Champions League Wins and 1 World Cup, but also Ecuador with a World Cup, Croatia and Denmark with a World Cup and a European Football Championship Cup each, they were not rewarded for their success in Youth Rating.

A nation with a successful national team should get higher youth rating, and also a nation with successful club should get higher youth rating. Youth ratings should drop systematically to make things balanced, so if England is successful for years then being unsuccessful for years should even things out, and only the success should be rewarded with a higher youth rating. We can give all nations a base to start from and a cap maybe, but in the current state, the "dynamic youth rating" is a joke.

    Youth Intakes

I ran an experiment. I edited youth rating for Bosnia Herzegovina to 200, many years into my save, when I realized the dynamic youth rating was a joke. I was editing my youth rating up with every win I got in Champions League, and now Hungary's youth rating is 187. Keep in mind that Bosnia has had 200 youth rating for maybe 30 years, maybe more.

Right now, the highest PA Bosnian players have PA's of 178, 173, 168, 163, 162 and 160, then it drops. So, Youth Rating alone doesn't effect the youth rating directly (or at all), so what does? Maybe facilities?

That is why when I was editing Bosnia's youth rating to 200, I edited every major club's facilities, youth recruitment and coaching of Serbia to 20, the maximum. Keep in mind Serbia has 100 youth rating.

The highest PA Serbian players have PA's of 189, 189, 180, 180, 179, 179, 178, 178, 177, 177, 177 and it goes on. Apparently facilities and youth recruitment has a big effect on youth players then?

Let's look at Colombia. With 117 youth rating and clubs with very high youth recruitment levels.

    The highest PA Colombian players have PA's of 199, 194, 186, 180, 179, 179, 177, 177 and so on.

Now... The problem is, even though youth recruitment apparently has impactful effect on youth intakes, while teams like PSG get one or two wonderkids from their intakes yearly, with my number 1 reputation and maxed out facilities, I only had maybe 3 players that I could put into my first team from my youth intake, and only one of them was Hungarian, others were from other countries, thanks to my Affiliates. The year I got Valencia as my affiliate, I got my first 180+ PA youth player.

From many clubs in France, 80% of wonderkids come out from PSG. France has many great clubs with tons of fans, this is not accurate.

If it was tied with reputation, then as Diosgyör I should've produced a Puskas by now, which was one of my goals starting my save.

    Scouting

Scouting is a big problem. But the problem is much bigger than what you think.

I had this guy, who was my assistant, who has 20 in almost every stat, including Judging Player Ability and Potential.

I know that even though you spend a month scouting a player that is playing for another team, your scout might not see that the player has high potential.

However, Sometimes my 20-20 guy would return from a 195 PA guy and say that his potential is 4 stars. I expect anyone above 175 PA to be 5 star potential, let alone a 195 PA guy. 195 PA is Ronaldo/Messi level.

But, that's beside the point. Even in my own club, when I get youth intakes, sometimes my HoYD who has 20 in Working with Youngsters and Judging Player Potential would say that a player in my youth intake has 3* potential, who in fact has 172 PA. How is that possible? I understand that the player might have low professionalism or whatnot, but even then, that is about not reaching that potential, not the lack of potential. A player with 1 in every mental stat with 190 PA is still a player with 190 PA, doesn't necessarily mean he will get 190 CA one day, but that does not diminish his 190 PA. If you want a real 200 PA but 100 CA example in real world, check Sergen Yalçın.

Also, look at the best players of the world. All of them are professionally trained, all of them professionals. That is why we have PA but also have other things like Determination, Ambition and especially Professionalism that affects how a player improves.

A Head of Youth Development staff determining a 170+ PA player's potential as 3 stars is completely unacceptable, let alone a scout scouting another team's player and returning with a proper, reasonable report. This is why I no longer believe the star system, and if I located a player, I just check PA to not get frustrated by a mediocre PA that my 20 judging player potential scout deemed 5 star. Note that we scout players until 100% knowledge.

    Ticket Prices

This will be the last thing I will be talking about.

Barcelona has a stadium with 99,354 capacity, with a team that is playing for the top 3 positions every season, and hasn't won the European Champions Cup since 2028. Note that the year is 2074, so 46 years have passed since they won CL. Imagine the last time Barça won a Champions League was in 1976 today.

This club charges the fans 632€ for season tickets, and 38€ for regular tickets.

Diosgyör, with a stadium of 88,278 capacity, which has won the Hungarian League 42 times in a row, has won Champions League 25 times and also 7 times in a row (current world record is 5 times by Real Madrid), can only charge their fans 95€ for season tickets and 10€ for regular tickets.

But, I hear you say, Spain is different than Hungary. Hungarian people might not be able to afford such prices. Alright.

The Gross Domestic Product per capita in Spain was last recorded at 24935.40 US dollars in 2020. The GDP per Capita in Spain is equivalent to 197 percent of the world's average.

The Gross Domestic Product per capita in Hungary was last recorded at 14328.07 US dollars in 2020. The GDP per Capita in Hungary is equivalent to 113 percent of the world's average.

So, Hungarians, generally speaking, make almost half of what a Spaniard is making. What if we compared Hungary to Turkey then?

The Gross Domestic Product per capita in Turkey was last recorded at 12035.03 US dollars in 2020. The GDP per Capita in Turkey is equivalent to 95 percent of the world's average.

Let's compare Diosgyör to Galatasaray, shall we?

Please note that I live in Turkey and I support Galatasaray, so I know this team very well.

Galatasaray is currently charging 503€ for season tickets, and 40€ for every ticket. Meanwhile Diosgyör is charging less than a fifth for season tickets, and a fourth for every ticket, even though they won 25 more Champions League titles compared to Galatasaray.

Even when you compare Diosgyör to Ferencvaros, the former best team in Hungary, it is odd. You would expect Diosgyör to be charging A LOT more compared to a team that hasn't won the league for 42 years, and never even make it to the group stage in Champions League?

    Well, guess again.

To our 95€ for season tickets, Ferencvaros is charging 229€. To our 10€ for every ticket, Ferencvaros is charging 18€.

In fact, not only Ferencvaros, Hungarian teams like Györ, Honved, Kisvarda, Nyiregyhaza, Siofok, ZTE, Debrecen, Fehervar and Gyirmot are ALL charging more for their tickets. The only club that is charging less than Diosgyör in Hungarian Division 1 is Puskas Akademia.

Surprisingly, teams like Bekescsaba, Csakvar, Debreceni EAC, Dorogi, Kerületi TVE, Jaszberenyi, Mako, MTK Budapest, Paksi, Soroksar, Szeged-Csanad Grosics all charge more, and they are Hungarian Division 2 teams.

How is this logical? Someone explain to me. If the game was realistic, Diosgyör should be charging at least 1k € for season tickets, and at least 50€ for regular tickets.

My team's annual income is about 700 million Euros, we make 4 million (about 0.6%) from season tickets and 18.5 million (about 2.7%) come from gate receipts. To compare, we make 86 million (about 12.3%) from merch.

This is comically absurd and needs to change.

Thank you for reading, I hope these get changed/fixed for FM2023.

    I f*cked up!

    Posted: 22 Feb 2022 03:40 AM PST

So, I learned of Melilla and Ceuta, two autonomous Spanish cities on the African continent, from ZeaIand's "One fun save for every European country", and since I wanted to try something new I decided to start a career with Melilla, all the way down in the fourth Spanish division but, to make things even more interesting, I decided that my aim would be to become a European powerhouse with only African players and staff.

First two seasons were not too hard, aside from the economic status of the club always being "At risk", definitely not because of me buying players left and right and selling them for peanuts the moment they started to complain about anything, but I got two promotion back to back.

My Melilla had a bunch of good players, most of them being African with a few Spanish that I was trying to get rid of. It wasn't easy because the team had no budget and not many players wanted to join a subpar team of nobodies who was punching above its weight (and that couldn't offer a living wage lol), but we were doing fine, during the pre-season I made some interesting signings and we were ready to fight to not get relegated. Everything was going fine...

Until it was time to register my players for the third season, the first in the history of the club in La Liga 2, which has a rule that I did not know about.

THERE IS A MINIMUM WAGE and most of my team is under that and they do not want to discuss a new contract, so now I'm in a limbo, I'm stuck between not registering them (thus pissing them off) or selling them (thus not having a team because no one wants them and I have no money to buy replacement). So now I am too afraid to continue, I don't know what to do and to be honest, I'm thinking of quitting this career (even tho it has been incredibly fun and probably the most interesting one I have ever had in 10+ years of playing FM).

So yes, if you have an idea of a save, pls don't be like me and check the rules.

Who is your 'bargain buy' of FM22 so far (not including newgens)?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2022 02:34 AM PST

Who is your 'bargain buy' of FM22 so far (not including newgens)?

For me it's Marco Da Graca.

I know this guy used to have very good potential on either FM21 or FM20, but I chose to sign him for my Bologna side just after I took over and had a limited pool of funds to spend. £2,000,000 from Ligue 2 side Sochaux seemed like a bargain for someone who scored 16 goals, and he would add depth to my forward positions, with players like Arnautovic, Ben Yedder and Pussetto leaving the club.

His first season saw him average a goal every three games, which I deemed acceptable for a back-up player who has moved up a level, but fast forward a couple of seasons and he has gotten better and better and has cemented his place in my side. 12 league goals in 14 games currently sees him hovering around the top of the scoring charts in Italy.

Sadly, he is yet to receive an international cap.

Marco Da Graca as of the 2027/28 season.

Nothing special in the technical attributes, but his mentals and physicals are jaw-dropping.

    Performance history.
