I turned Ross County into a team full of Ross' - Part 2

    Link to Part 1

Thanks for the support on part 1, I'm hoping to bring out 7-8 parts within the next month but posts might be less frequent. Also thanks to u/Troub1eMan for the manager suggestion, anyway, let's get into part 2...

I don't know what you call your fans

    The Start of the Season

I'm not going to go too in-depth with pre-season, this year on FM I've found that friendlies seem very favourable when you play as a lesser side. I only lost 2-1 to a decent Barcelona team yet got demolished by Real Madrid the game after, so let's just pick up from our first league cup group game which was a 2-1 over Cove Rangers. I've narrowed the pitch as much as I can, Brexit style football is the only way I can see us staying up and not playing Alloa away next season, Hearts thought Gegenpressing was the answer in real life last season but I'm keen to show them why Boss Ross is the tactical maestro Scottish football wants and deserves.

    Imagine playing football

After Cove, an away fixture against Dundee produced a 1-3 loss, I'm not too fussed about the league cup however a defeat against Championship opposition in which they battered us, doesn't do much for team morale. We follow that up with 1-0 win at home against League 2 Cowdenbeath, I can only imagine the type of game my team of Ross' went through to get the three points, it's not a pretty one. We then beat League 1 Montrose away from home 2-1, meaning we finish behind Dundee in 2nd, but we've still managed to qualify for the 2nd round.

However, the league starts and my 4-5-1 Bus Parking tactic starts to leak goals. We go away to Hamiltom, losing 1-0 and then lose 1-2 at home to St. Johnstone, not the best start to relegation rivals but not terrible. Then we play the big boys, Aberdeen, Hibs and Celtic losing 3-0, 3-0 and 6-0 at Parkhead. The results leave fans doubting whether I'm the man for the job and the embarrassment at Celtic Park forces Ross' and friends refunding the fans who came from Dingwall to watch their 3rd choice keeper leak 6 goals, due to Ross Laidlaw being laid off for a while. It's hard to see a situation where the Staggies can stay up or even win at this rate and the games are coming in faster.

    Jose who?

As if the club didn't need to stop haemorrhaging money

    Laidlaw has had enough

    A Sign of Hope?

In between the St. Johnstone and Aberdeen games, we had a midweek league cup fixture against Kilmarnock where I decided to try something different, I employed a 4-4-2 diamond with Ross Stewart and new marquee signing, Ross McCormack. He cost me quite a bit in terms of wages, but after the start we had I had to do something. After playing well for the majority of the game, it happens, we score and run out 1-0 winners against Premiership opposition. It's not much but it's a start, looking back we could've stuck with this tactic rather than conceding 12 goals in the following 3 games, but then again it would've left us more open so I can't complain.

    A fine tactic

    A fine win

    A fine addition

We face St. Mirren at home, with our main keeper now out and team lacking morale , this is the most winnable game yet against another relegation rival. At this stage, a win is massive after losing the first 5 top-flight games. The 4-5-1 tactic is deployed again, it's a fairly boring game but we have our fair share of chances, then, bang. Frank Ross, the loanee from Aberdeen, smashes one in from 25 yards. We win 1-0, crucially. It keeps us bottom but we have our first points and it shows we actually have a chance at surviving. Or at least not being a total banter side.

    Crucial

A massive win and one we desperately needed, we need to kick on from here and turn Dingwall into a fortress. After the win we play Dundee in the league cup quarter final, I'll cut to the chase, we lost 2-1 AET. We played well enough but ultimately the league is our priority.

    Moving Forward

We have our first league win, it's not the best start in the world but we've started to adjust. Keeping in mind this is a completely new team heading into the top-flight, I'm not totally displeased. Stewart and McCormack will have to produce goals from nowhere this season and I'm heavily reliant on my midfield staying as fit as possible, but it's a long season and reinforcements will most likely be needed in January. We have games against Kilmarnock, Hearts, Livingston, Rangers and Motherwell before we head into the 2nd cycle of matches, we have to try and take as many points from the bottom 6 as we can if we want to not finish in the bottom 2.

    Form so far

Morale is up slightly, but we have to keep pushing in order to keep our semi-decent form going. Stay tuned for Part 3..

So I decided to try the tactics of sending the GK up on corners. Here's the first goal that my GK has scored. That finish.

[FM19 Experiment] What if all nations were equal?

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 05:09 PM PDT

When I first downloaded Football Manager, I thought I'd have a great time managing clubs to championships.

However, life ignored my plans, and I instead became attracted to the editor and the ability to edit almost every aspect of almost every league with enough work.

So for the past few months I've been working on some of my big databases yet for experiments.

But in this experiment, I will simply be testing the waters of posting an experiment on Reddit.

In this experiment, I have used an editor file which greatly expands the number of playable countries, and Jyoti's "Equal World" which sets every country's financial ability, game importance, and youth rating equal. I have further edited the database so that all clubs have a 20 in youth recruitment.

I will simulate forward for...however long it takes before this gets boring, updating every four years (i.e., every World Cup) to show everyone who the most powerful country is, what type of players are dominating the big leagues, etc. I'm hoping to see some strange countries do well.

I've loaded every player on a top division team in the world, giving the game a huge ~75,000 players. This means I should see loads of newgens, which will hopefully quickly dispose of the current world class players.

*It should be noted that I've loaded only the Bhutanese leagues as playable, so Bhutanese players may be better than those from some other countries. No other country's leagues can be seen in any detail, as this is more of a focus on international football*.

My first update will come tomorrow.
