How's your save going? My Journeyman Tale Posted: 28 Jul 2020 07:49 PM PDT I'm in the tenth year of my save and having a great time playing it. I love reading about other people's saves, so thought I'd share mine. If this is no good, it'll be downvoted into oblivion anyway, but if you like it, share your own save story. THE SETUP: Loaded all the British isles, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Portugal, Russia, US, Argentina, and Brazil; large database. Created my manager with no badges, Sunday league playing experience, supporter of Arsenal and the NE Revolution, and unemployed. I have decided ahead of time that I will spend no more than four years at a club, but at least two years at a club, unless sacked. After two years I'll entertain offers that come to me, and after four, I'll look for a change. YEAR ONE: Get hired by Cefn Druids in Wales. Manage to win the Nathaniel MG Cup, finish 8th, and win Coach of the Year. YEAR TWO: Still at Druids. Win the MG Cup again, as well as the Welsh Cup. 2nd in the league. YEAR THREE: Druids again. Playing in the Europa Conference League and knocked out by Hibs in the Best Placed 3rd Qualifying Round, 7-1 aggregate, knocking out Gibraltar's Lynx (8-0) and North Macedonia's Vardar (5-3) on the way. Win the MG Cup, the Tunnock's Wafer Cup, and beat Bangor City for the Welsh Cup again. 2nd in the league again. YEAR FOUR: Druids. In Europa Conference, fall to AaB in the Best Placed Third Qualifying Round again, 3-2 aggregate. We beat Kazakhstan's Tobol (6-2) and Laci from Albania (5-1) to get there. Beat Bangor City 3-1 in the MG Cup final, Hibs Reserves in penalties in the Tunnock's final, and FINALLY TNS in the Welsh Cup. Also the year we knock TNS off the top to win the league plus Coach of the Year. But we're on to other things. YEAR FIVE: Before resigning, I test the waters and get hired by Linfield in Northern Ireland. They are also in the Europa Conference where we make it to the Best Placed Fourth Qualifying Round and lose to Real San Sebastian 3-2 aggregate. On the way we beat Riga (Latvia), AO Xanthi (Greece), and Sloboda Tuzla (Bosnia-Herzegovina). We win the Country Antrim Shield, the Bet Mclean Cup, the Tunnock's Wafer Cup (over Rangers reserves), and fall in the Northern Irish Cup final to Crusaders on penalties. Win the league, qualifying for Champions League next season. YEAR SIX: Beat Skenderbeu (Albania), and Sheriff Tiraspol (Moldova) before losing to RB Salzburg on away goals in the Third Qualifying Round of the Champions League. That sent us to the Europa League playoffs where we got stomped by Rangers, but we wind up in Europa Conference League group play. Placed in a group with PAOK, SJK, and Leicester, we wind up second, and then beat Aberdeen and Vitesse before losing to Bologna in the QF. We win County Antrim, Bet Mclean, Tunnock's (which they should just rename for me), and redeem ourselves against Crusaders in the NIR Cup Final. First in the league, Coach of the Year. YEAR SEVEN: On the eve of the season, I'm approached by Angers for an interview. I can't resist the chance at a top-five league and take the job only to find out they have no transfer budget (LITERALLY ZERO) and almost no room in the wage budget. Rather than sticking with my tried and true 4-2-3-1 pressing tactic, I try to work with what I have and get stomped. Sacked on October fifth. I stay unemployed for a month until I pick up with Carpi in Serie B. They are 14th when I take over, and we wind up runners up, and get promotion to Serie A. YEAR EIGHT: Still at Carpi. Picked for relegation, we scrap to 13th. We take no points from Juve, Inter, or AC Milan, but stay up. Shortlisted for Serie A Coach of the Year, but don't take it. We're glad to consolidate, and make moves for the future to ensure a long time in the top flight. YEAR NINE: Second year in Serie A at Carpi. Thanks to loanees from Huddersfield and Bayern Munich, we win the Coppa Italia. A favorable draw - never playing Juve, Inter, AC Milan, Atalanta, or Lazio - takes most of the credit. The team is on track for another mid-table finish with one game to go when Arsenal fires Zidane. I am mentioned as a possible candidate, and when asked about the job I give what I feel is a bland answer - "honored to be mentioned" or some such. Well, the Carpi board doesn't like that and sacks me, replacing me with Fabio Quagliarella, who I had just hired as my U20 assistant. I apply for Arsenal, and am passed over for Luis Enrique, coming off a stint at Liverpool. I apply for Liverpool, Man City, Sevilla, and a slew of others, to no avail. After a month of applying and interviewing, I wind up at Sheffield United. YEAR TEN: I'm here now. Just started at Sheffield, picked to finish 13th in the Prem, which I'm confident I can top. After years in smaller leagues, and at Carpi with no budget, even a middling EPL budget is daunting. I made the moves I wanted and still had 80m left in the budget, so I am spending heavily on youngsters for the future. Lastly, a few WHERE ARE THEY NOWs Messi: Unemployed HOYD after finishing with Barca CR7: Assistant manager at LOSC 2 (!) Modric: Retired at Real Zlatan: Retired at AC Milan after 20-21 Salah: 36 yo free agent after not making an appearance for Liverpool in 28-29 Auba: unemployed DoF after leaving Arsenal to play at Juve, Nantes, and Young Boys De Bruyne: retired after one season (26-27) at Rennes Pogba: still playing at Lyon Kane: 35 y/o striker for Man U Pulisic: Chelsea to AC Milan Haaland: Dortmund to Chelsea to Barca Neymar: PSG to one season (26-27) in Brazil Hazard: Unemployed DoF Zidane: Manager at AC Milan Suarez: Two years at Tottenham, now unemployed Asst Man Mbappe: Still at PSG! Iniesta: Bounced back and forth from France to Mexico; now in Tijuana Aguero: finished at Inter, now unemployed DoF If you want to know others, just ask! Otherwise, tell me your story! What has been your most unfair sacking? Posted: 28 Jul 2020 01:35 PM PDT Mine was taking over Man Utd with 2 games left in the season who were struggling in mid table. They had a season objective to challenge for the title and for some stupid reason it transfered over to my objectives and they sacked me. I was livid [link] [comments] | ||
