15 years old and already good enough to play in the top flight according to my coaches

My team, suffering from exhaustion in pre-season, only had 9 subs. I subbed on 1 goalie as a Left Wing. He assisted 2, one offside. Currently in the process of changing his position.

What you want to do to your players as you lose 3-0 to the bottom of the league.

I see your 15 years old, and i give you my 14 years old Wunderkind. He could play into my Champions League winning team as a rotational player.

Won the Swedish 4th tier title with IFK Hässleholm, been in a rut ever since

    Posted: 31 Jul 2020 04:37 PM PDT

Doing a Journeyman network game currently and thought I'd share my odd story. Started unemployed, no badges, with only Sunday league experience, aged 21.

Got a job in the 4th tier of Swedish football with IFK Hässleholm. Joined about 3/4 through the season and was in relegation. Was blessed with a superstar Nigerian striker named 'Michael Andrew' who went on to win the golden boot with 17 goals, as well as veteran Kenyan national 'Patrick Osiako' who chipped in with some crucial outside the box twangers. Finished the season in 6th and very excited for next season.

Come next season I bring in the first swarm; about 70 Swedish youngsters brought in on non contracts. Then came the second swarm; 20 odd loanee's from Swedish top division sides. Despite my star Michael Edwards flopping massively with only 6 goals to his name by the end, my technically skilled loanee midfield trio guided me to the league title. 2 seasons in and a title already, good job me.

With my silverware I see my contract out and leave with the expectation to be able to land a slightly better job. Initially being picky, weeks and weeks go by, no job offers. Months go by and still no job offers. So I start to be less picky and apply for a lot of jobs, but still no offers. Eventually it gets to the point I'm applying to all the jobs because I just need a place to study my coaching badges. Even from really mediocre teams I'm getting no offers.

Eventually I land a job... Togo international team, at least it's something. Despite appearances the small African nation has some decent players at top European clubs. With a very obscure 3 at the back system with no wing backs we manage to get 2 wins and 1 draw in our World Cup qualifying but unfortunately we lose 3-1 away to Algeria's much higher skilled team despite absolutely destroying them in the first half. As a result of this we are put into 3rd spot behind Algeria and Burkina Faso with only Mauritania behind us in 4th. With the next qualifiers 170 days away I want a club job.

I get myself a job in Northern Ireland's 3rd division with Moyola Park. Real bottom of the barrel stuff this, how have I fallen this far. However it turns out there's only two games left of the season and I'm dead bottom. Manage to dominate and get a win away to the 4th position team. Wahey we're 3 points and 3 spots above safety with just one win. However at home to some mid table side I get an early red and despite going 1-0 up I lose 2-1, I then get relegated and as a result I'm sacked within 3 weeks of the job.

    Happy days.

I hope you enjoyed reading as much as me and my mate had playing it, he has had just as wild of a time as me. I'm very tired so please forgive any terrible writing here. Hopefully I can go on and get a decent, comfortable job soon and not take my previous one for granted. I missed out a lot of crazy stuff happening along the way but I wanted to keep it concise. Ciao!

Trotter’s Free Transfer Co. | Can you succeed in FM on free transfers alone? - Part 5

Trotter's Free Transfer Co. | Can you succeed in FM on free transfers alone? - Part 5

    Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4

In which Derek "Del Boy" Trotter tries to make it to the big time without spending a penny.

    [Profit so far: £18,000]

[Staff members signed named Rodney: 4]

[Staff members signed named Dave: 4]

    [Staff members named Albert: 0]

It's a funny old game. Del Boy Trotter is in his fifth season of management, having made the jump from National League side Dulwich Hamlet to Championship Barnsley. The Tykes finished in 7th last season, having been predicted relegation. The club, which was around £2 million in debt and paying £24k p/w over its wage budget, now has an operating profit of £8 million.

Fully aware of the irony that the real Del Boy was anything but a shrewd businessman, I prepare for a season in which I hope Barnsley may be able to sneak the playoffs.

    Incoming Players - 22/23

    The new European haul

There are plenty of players being released by Premier League clubs now. I have to refrain myself from going overboard. I immediately try to tap up Oliver Burke from West Brom, but he refuses to sign unless he can have a 600k release clause [?!?!].

Jonjoe Kenny from Everton is next on my list. He's 25 and with a 7.01 rating while on loan at Derby last year. Jonjoe wants 50k p/w. I slam the door in his face. Then Del Boy gets 3/4s of the way through a contract with none other than a 35-year old Jamie Vardy before my better judgement makes me cancel the deal.

My negotiations become a who's who of players rejecting me because they want crazy wages. Marcel Halstenburg? 60k. Kevin Wimmer? 55k. Ryan Fredrick? 47k. Ante Rebic actually considers signing for Barnsley before asking for 70k and a highest earner clause.

Although with my massive wage budget I could sign these players, the last thing I want to do is end up with the same collection of bloated contracts for overpaid players that got Barnsley into the mess Del Boy had just got it out of.

Dejected but still with a healthy wage budget behind him, Del Boy turns his attention back to what has got him where he is today: youth team and reserve team rejects.

This window it's a very European flavour to the signings. Only one incoming lad is English.

The most frustrating signing there is Nika Bedoidze, a Georgian left-back who scored a 7.38 in his native country last season. But I holidayed through the work permit phase and he didn't get one. So I guess he'll be cleaning the training ground until I can get him a loan.

Monolo Portanova and Koni De Winter are both Juventus cast-offs who decided that the lush green countryside of Turin was nothing compared to the glory of the rain-streaked Peak District.

Of the bunch the highlights are:

    • Diego Alende - 24 - CB - Released by Celta Vigo
    • Ben Watkins - 21 - ST - Released by Charlton

Alende has played 60 games in the Liga Segunda and at 24 is already a leading Championship player. Watkins is a born finisher, and has 20 goals in 40 games at League One level.

Fuck work permits, all my homies hate work permits

    Season Results - 22/23

Things are thoroughly whelming. The crowds go mild.

By the time the World Cup in Qatar rolls around Barnsley are sitting in 13th. The board, who expect a mid-table finish this time, are content. Del Boy, who expected a playoff push, is unamused.

The new signings just haven't performed. The average rating of all of the new faces is a downright awful 6.47. It seems that teams have figured out Barnsley's game and are frustrating the attack.

What do you do when a 4-1-2-3 doesn't work for you? Go 5-2-3 of course. Del Boy changes things up so all play is focused down the right and left wing where Barnsley's best players are.

January also sees 21/22 free signing Bradley Cross sold to Sundowns in South Africa for £250k, which really boosts my numbers and brings me closer to that first million profit.

Then Barnsley regen Bill Cahill is sold to Bournemouth for £5.25 million. He was brought through the academy with Trotter in charge, and I'm unsure whether to count that as profit towards my £500 million. What do you guys think? Let me know by commenting.

More Rodneys arrive at Barnsley. Rodney Gault and Rodney Cunningham join as analysts in the youth teams. We get a Dave in Dave Robertson, who joins as Director of Football.

More non-Trotter players are sold in January, and the team begins to look more and more like one made up entirely of free transfers.

Meanwhile the formation change does wonders. Until it doesn't. Barnsley struggle for form for the entire last three months of the season. From February to April we fail to win a single game. Somehow we maintain 13th place until the end of the season.

We finished mid table but I still feel like it's a wasted season

The players brought in put in a shift for the second half of the season, despite the slump in overall form. Portanova and Alende average a 6.9 rating. De Winter manages a 6.89. The team's best players were wide men Thomas Pledl and Wesley Jobello, both non-Trotter players, and Pledl is heading away on a free transfer in summer.

There's a lot of work to do.

This time next year we'll be making the playoffs for real?
