Football Manager - Aberdeen turned me down because I "didn't fit their vision for the future" so I went to the bottom divison and made Aberdeen the 2nd best team in Aberdeen.

My Really Average First Football Manager Career. [PART 1]

    Posted: 11 May 2020 08:00 AM PDT

So, after buying Football Manager over Xmas 2019, I have spent 375 hours playing it up to today. In these hours, I have managed 33 clubs, winning a grand total of 9 trophies over a 35-year career. I have decided to document my Management career on Reddit because of the number of insane careers I have seen. This is not a good career. Let's get that straight.

    24/6/2019-12/5/2021: Walsall

I decided to start my Career off at Walsall. I have always had a soft spot for them, and decided it would be my destiny to get them to the Premier League. All I hear about is people taking sides from the lower divisions to Champions League glory in under 10 seasons. This will be a piece of cake.

Early signs showed that I didn't have a clue what I was doing. "I have to literally do everything" I said to myself. You have to remember I have never played a Football Manager game before, and the closest I have come to managing a team was on FIFA 16 Career Mode, where I took Walsall to Premier League Glory in 3 seasons. I also took an early disliking to Danny Guthrie, just because he was the highest earner at the club. I moved him to the under-23's and because he was a very influential player, I lost the dressing room early on.

My first signing then was obviously Yann Kermorgant. A 37-year-old striker/winger that I just did not need, but I had heard of him before, and one of my scouts recommended him. 8.25k spent. Obviously 1 week later he tore his cruciate ligament and was out for the season. Great start.

The season starts ok, finding myself mid-table, which was my target for the season. I ended up signing Victor Fundi, Jordan Clarke, and Ellis Watts in the Summer of 2019, just because they were recommended to me by my scouts. I spent 17.5k on those 3 players. we get knocked out of the Carabao Cup in the first round, knocked out by Burton in the first round of the FA Cup, and lose to Coventry In the Leasing .com trophy second round all by the end of 2019. At least I could concentrate on the league now.

We push up into a playoff spot in by January, and I decide to bring in 2 more players to help with our promotion push. George Hirst from Leicester, and Daniel Kemp from West Ham, both on loan. I thought these players would be perfect.

The season continues to go great up until March, where a sharp decline in form sees us finish 14th. No really what I targeted at the start of the season, but the board was at least content. Next season I was going to win the league. I was sure of it. I was setting my sights on the Premier League by 2024. With or without Walsall. Who would have thought I would be fighting relegation in the JD Cymru Premier by then? Definitely not me.

Thanks for reading! I will be posting season 2 at Walsall soon if people are interested! If you have any tips for these posts please let me know, because this is my first one and I don't really know what I'm doing...

This guy was the first regen to win the ballon d'or on my FM, however I think it's raining cash in Croatia! Has anyone seen a club of Hajduk's size receive such an amount of money for a 19/20 year old?
