I started a new save, unemployed, not applying for any jobs, watching every Southampton (my favorite team) game on extended highlights just to get some idea of watching the prem again 😅

    Pietro Pellegri, I love you

    Posted: 16 Apr 2020 01:16 AM PDT

Right, to fully understand why I love this man, we have to go back to year 2022. In 5 years with Monaco he played in less than 10 league games with them and they didn't renew his contract. We (1860 Munich) managed to get him for free in summer of 2022, when we got promoted to the 1. Bundesliga.

Although he wasn't absolute goalscoring machine with 30+ goals each year (scored 10 and 14 league goals in his first two seasons), he helped us massively to stay in the BuLi. In our first season we just barely escaped relegation via playoff. I couldn't blame Pellegri for almost going down, we just hadn't had the quality needed all-around at that time. In the second year in BuLi we managed to finish 7th while also winning DFB-Pokal.

That's when interest in some of our players started to rise. During the pre-season we got offered 55 mil. from Wolfsburg for Pellegri (who was valued at cca 15 mil. at the time) and that type of money I couldn't refuse at that time. We were last in wage expenditure with lowest commercial income and a new stadium in construction. And part of this money could also go towards new signings we needed to be able to play in Bundesliga and Europa League as well. Plus Wolfsburg had just won the league, so Pellegri probably would've got pissed if I refused that.

In the next two seasons Pellegri had won best goalscorer award both times, while we struggled to find striker who would consistently bang in goals (although we somehow finished 2nd in 25/26). I was starting to doubt the sale of Pellegri.

Now let's jump back to ''present'' day. Year is 2030. We are fighting for our 3rd straight title against our city rivals, Bayern. Even though we won the league for the last two years, this was the first year we had a prolific striker, who scored 20+ goals, but that's not that important in the story.

What's important is the situation. With 3 games to go, Bayern and we are sitting on 70 points, but we have better GD by 10 goals. Matchday 32, we go to Allianz Arena to play Bayern in the biggest of the season. Then disaster struck. Our winger gets sent off after only 100 seconds. We got smacked 0-4, Bayern gets on top with 3-point lead and only 2 games to go.

Who they play against next week? Wolfsburg. In the new Edin Džeko Stadium. Wolfsburg are 6th, so there's a chance they could get a solid result against Bayern. Now back to our man, Pietro Pellegri. After his first two seasons with Wolfsburg he started to decline a bit. On paper he should've hit the peak, but his goal numbers went down. In this season he lost his starting spot and he's only scored 3 league goals so far.

You probably know where I'm heading with this. It's 62nd minute, we're winning against Gladbach, but I keep one eye on the Bayern game, which was still 1-1. But that's when it happens. I see the score change to 2-1 for Wolfsburg and who else could it be...PIETRO PELLEGRI!! Score stays 2-1, we won our game against Gladbach and were back in 1st place on GD. And after we beat Frankfurt away 4-1 we could celebrate our 3rd title in a row. But it wouldn't happen if it weren't for my man Pellegri.

TL;DR - Signed Pellegri, sold him after two years to Wolfsburg for 55 mil., 6 years later he scored game-winning goal against Bayern, which won us title
