    Deal with it

    Posted: 17 Apr 2020 08:03 AM PDT

My club legend has just retired. I'm heartbroken. The best player I've ever had. I've played every Football Manager since 2005 and never seen anyone have a record like this. Converted him from a left-winger to a left wing-back when I took over in the 2018/19 season.

When you notice you can now bring 12 subs to the Europa/Champions League finals

Didn’t want £40 million for my back up winger anyway :/

I managed to sign Messi & Ronaldo for PSG and used this 4-0-6 formation in a 5-1 win against Auxerre on the final day of the season

When I clicked on Real Madrid's star striker Antonio Jesus Vasquez, well, it's fair to say my expectations were wonderfully subverted

Making Stevenage Steven Again - Part 4: Even Stevens

Making Stevenage Steven Again - Part 4: Even Stevens

    Part 1 Part 2 Part 3

I will not be deterred. I will not rest until we take over all Stevens and then the world.

    Previously on MSSA:

After storming to the League Two title under the guidance of 5 Stevens, Steven Stevens takes Stevenage straight into another promotion fight and a cup run, knocking out Millwall and Bournemouth to set up a mouthwatering first-name derby against Chelsea. Can the Stevens keep their form and challenge for the promotion spots?

    Bad Steve Rising

With no money left after securing Penrice and paying for part of Collins and Stevenson's wages, I secure some desperate loans to flesh out the squad. Fans are disappointed why I'm signing rotation youngsters when I could be developing players from my academy, but they lack Stevenhood and I want little part in it. Time to focus on the FA Cup: Chelsea are by far the biggest opponents I, Steven Stevens, have faced, and I prepare to get slapped around. My Stevens are made of stern stuff, however, and hold the Blues at arms length until Giroud bundles one in with half an hour to go. 1-0 at Stamford Bridge is a more than respectable scoreline and the Stevens take those memories and results to heart, while I take the profits directly to the bank. Much like last year, we kick off after the new year, buoyed by the arrival of Penrice and continued solidity at the back despite us losing two of the old guard. Toward the end of February a bobble in form sees any chance at a shock title rest on a match against league leaders Barnsley, who are 7 points ahead: despite a generous red in the first half, we draw 0-0. Results go our way, however, and suddenly automatic promotion is in our sights if we can beat bottom side Doncaster. Of course, we go 1-0 down, but Penrice claws us level before fringe player R. Steven Mitchell pulls an FM and pops up with his first goal of the season late on.

    Mitchelllllllllll!

Somehow, some way, my Stevenage side expected to finish mid-table in League Two is off to the Championship. It was a tough season with discipline problems and a shoestring squad, but we shithoused our way up through loyalty and Stevenhood. J. Steven Cain, a midfielder on loan from Liverpool, surpasses expectations and I secure his signature for the summer (Bradley Stevenson is average and a backup rightback I got averages a 6.3). We cruise through the last few games and end with 93 points, seven clear of 3rd.

Shoutout to our Dad Name Derby rivals Accrington Stanley who pulled off the great escape.

The Real Reason Why Brexit Was A Mistake

A shiny new payroll and transfer budget awaits, and not a moment too soon. We need some serious, higher caliber Stevens to flesh out the squad and plug the gaps left by players such as Stephen Quinn, who retires and asks for too much money to continue his Stevenage career as a coach. Most troubling, however, is the hard Brexit kicking in. Anyone outside of the UK & Ireland requires a work permit, which can only be obtained by reaching a minimum yearly wage that's beyond anything a Stevenage player currently makes. Our only hope is domestic-based Stevens for the foreseeable future. I get Sessegnon on a free loan for the third year running. I enquire Blackburn about loanee Stefan Mols, who just gained British citizenship: they suggest 12 million, then list him for $175k two weeks later. I oblige. Stefan Scougall comes into the team, and I smash our transfer fee for the second year running to activate Ben Stevenson's $925k relegation release clause, which puts us squarely back on broke again. It's a heavy price to pay, and means that former top scorer Alex Reid has to be moved on, but these are the sacrifice necessary to play Stevenball. I manage to go over our wage budget in record time, although in retrospect the payroll budget isn't as shiny as previously thought.

    Everyone likes an underdog, right?

Life in the Championship starts alright, and we find ourselves in mid-table, which is miraculous in itself. Our Carabao Cup curse continues as we're knocked out against Swansea on penalties, but a few hard-fought wins and the surprising form of super sub Stephen Naismith take us up to 7th, one spot outside the playoff places, but somehow 5 points off top and 5 points off the relegation zone. Another Stevenage milestone is reached, and honestly quicker than I thought: an entire Steven matchday squad, a feat so impressive and worthy of pride that the scoreline doesn't matter, right? So why even ask.

It's technically B. Steven Lyons-Foster but that's just bad branding.

Where do we go from here? I'm not sure. Our 3-star ability players still read as "decent for most League Two sides", so I'm not sure where our points are coming from. As some of our more prominent foreigners run out their contracts--Haas, Da Veiga, De Stefano--there will be a huge dilemma to decide whether to cash in or let them go for free. Who could have foreseen Brexit causing people problems? For now, our only focus is getting on many points on the board as possible and hope that's enough to keep the Stevens Stevening on for at least another year.

Wanted to win all the trophies in England in one sweep. Community Shield: Bloody eight of my players were overseas and I had to field my 16-year old youth. He scored the winning penalty against arsenal. What a lad.
