From New York to Newcastle to Marseilles and beyond...

    Posted: 26 Feb 2020 01:40 PM PST

The start was irregular. I'm a massive fan of MLS and my initial start of FM19 was with MLS stalwart New York City FC, Manchester city sister club. I start in June, and take over from struggling Domenec Torrent. They are 4th in the east, 9th overall in the supporters shield. Building on the underachieving, but talented squad, we make the playoffs, win and make it to the Eastern final, losing 5-1 on aggregate to a dominant and rampant Toronto FC. Building phase has begun. Season 2 starts with a very good Superdraft and a strong pre-season. We looked unbeatable. The season rolls on and we lose 3-2 to a frankly mediocre Houston Dynamo having gone 2-0 up thanks to two bits of David Villa brilliance. That foreshadows a season that promises a lot, but fails to deliver. Losing in the Quarters of the US Open Cup, and finishing 4th overall in MLS, up from 6th the previous season, and lose in the playoffs 2-1. Progress? Now we need to spend and bring in names, they know my style now and we need to start to deliver. The problem? We've lost Maxi Morales due to homesickness. Shit, I think, what now. Up steps 16 year old Randy Jones, academy prospect and overall nice guy. Hits first season he played 10 games, all from the bench, and impressed. Now's your chance son. We sign Nikola Dovedan as a DP, Mix Diskerud and Douglas Luis on loan from Man City and free agent, absolute unit of a defender, best of all he's 23 and a Homegrown! We dominate season 3, next home record ever, most wins and most consecutive games without losing. Finish 1st in the supporters shield, 10 points ahead of next placed LA FC. Make our way to the US Cup final, win it 3-1 after extra time. Make it to the final of MLS. Win that 3-0. Amazing, it can't get better! Season 4, we make it to the final of the CONCACAF Champions League and lose 1-0. Gutting. In 16th placed Newcastle United on 10th May, "We want you!". I must take it, I tell the board. "Good Luck" they say. I take over. Bring in a couple of wing backs and an AP for creativity. We start well, drawing 2 and winning 3 of our first 6. Top of the table. Surely Not!! Indeed not, were falter and eventually finish 7th with 18 wins 13 draws and 7 losses and loads of comments from Jose Mourinho about my clear lack of coaching ability. Brilliant stuff, new contract! I'm loving it! Season two rolls on and we have a poor pre season, but I bring in Moussa Sylla from Marseilles for 18 million. He's good, I think. Scores twice in an opening day 2-2 draw with Everton, bit that's where it stops, he doesn't score another goal for 10 games and I'm sacked in November on the back of a 4-0 drubbing by mid table Southampton with Newcastle in 15th. Unemployment is a tough pill to swallow but soon the steam job appears. ENGLAND! After a dreadful 2022 world cup, they need a new direction. Win the Euros in 2024! Challenge accepted. We cruise through the group stage, but not before I take over 6th placed Marseilles who need champions league football. We qualify!

Season two goes well, we make it to the champions league RO16 only to lose 8-1 on aggregate to liverpool, who won it four a third year in a row. And finish fourth again, but it's progress. And up comes the Euros.

Thanks for reading, please post some of your stories

    Football Manager UI Redesign

    Posted: 26 Feb 2020 10:32 AM PST

    Hello everyone,

I don't know if I can post it on here, but if I can that's really appreciated!

Just like you all I am a fan of FM, not since 2000 but I have been playing the past 5 opus and there are some things that I like and some that I wish it was better !

This time I am not talking about 1v1s, goalkeepers or match engine overrall but UI wise :)

One of my first prototypes is dedicated to some of the screens of FM including the Home page and the Tactics screen.

Please let me know your thoughts no matter if you are into design or just into FM, everyone's opinion matter!

    Thanks a lot :D

    Trophies in Interviews

    Posted: 26 Feb 2020 04:27 PM PST

I won the World Cup with England in my save, resigned straight after. Although my reputation went up and better clubs offered me interviews, they asked a question implying that I hadn't won any trophies. Is this a bug or does it not count because it's international? A lot of questions in job interview are a bit stupid and misinformed so guessing it's just one of those things.

Probably one of the best regens I have ever seen!! At only 17 with mentals, physicals and technicals all nearing 17 in desired area's he is going to be one of the best players in the world for like 15-20 years!

Am I the only person who doesn’t really go for South American Wonderkids?

    Posted: 26 Feb 2020 07:16 AM PST

I get that it's tempting to get a Brazilian or Argentinian wonder kid. I truly do but in my time playing FM, I think there's only been one real time that I've ever used a Wonderkid from there and scooped. I've always had luck of having a good academy everywhere I've been and just looking in unfamiliar nooks. (I'm American and I found like a few kids in the States, Canada, Mexico and the rest of CONCACAF who've rivaled for a cheaper price overseas)

Idk if I'm in a minority but I'm just curious.
