    Today's Question. What attributes might lead to my strikers missing one on one?

    A classic FM issue, most commonly faced by players coming across from FIFA, is understanding the cacophony of mental attributes in the game. Nowhere is this confusion more pronounced than in the frustration of FM players whose strikers fail to put away easy chances. This post aims to provide an overview of the mental attributes involved in one on ones to help diagnose problems.

    The game splits shown attributes into 3 categories. Physical attributes govern player movement; Technical attributes govern interaction with the ball; Mental attributes govern player decision-making.

    Mental attributes are how FM differentiates footballing geniuses from less intelligent players. In other sports games, such as FIFA, the mental attributes are not overly integral or in-depth. Hence many players play much better/worse in FIFA than in real life. In FM - where all decisions are made by player simulations - mental attributes are essential to understanding players. Yet what each attribute is and how that plays out within the match engine is often misunderstood.

    One on one with the keeper, the mental attributes at play are:

    To determine awareness of the available options: Vision is the primary attribute. Higher vision = more options seen. Other helpful attributes are: teamwork in understanding the positioning of teammates, and anticipation to predict other players actions.

    In making the right decision: The primary attribute to decide between a player's options is decisions. Concentration is also a factor late in games as players get tired and lose focus.

    In executing a decision: How successfully a player executes a decision is primarily determined by composure - a player's ability to stay calm under pressure. In mentally exhausting circumstances (such as when a player is tired, playing poorly, or when the team is losing), determination also factors in.

    Outside of mental attributes, a player's relevant technical attributes are essential to a players ability to execute decisions. Balance also plays in if they are moving.

    Other less obviously relevant attributes, such as speed and dribbling, might be important to get a player away from defensive pressure or for closer control and more decision-making points.

    Unusual teams in FM

    I've just stumbled upon Oriental Dragon, an amateur Portuguese team made up almost entirely of players with dual Chinese-Portuguese nationality. I also know there's Croatia Berlin, whose players all have Croatian-German dual nationality.

    What's the most unusual team you've found, in terms of its composition or selection criteria?
