The curious case of the repeated Gabriel Maragh

    Posted: 21 Aug 2019 10:52 AM PDT

So it must have been a little over 6 month ago now that I began my first FM19 save - Crewe Alexandra. During my 3rd season, now in League 1, I signed a young regen from Boreham wood, an English winger called Gabriel Maragh, who had come in the first season intake there. He was a left winger. He had a really good first season for us in League 1 aged 18, scored nearly 20 goals. Sadly he didn't make up the step to the Championship well when we were eventually promoted. But anyways - that's not the point.

Today I was playing my AFC Telford save - currently in my 4th season. We're now in League 2 and playing away at Cambridge United today. Imagine my shock then, when the assistant manager suggests during the game that we should 'close down Gabriel Maragh more often'. What? Gabriel Maragh was a regen! How can be on a different save! So I look at the Cambridge team, and lo and behold - Gabriel Maragh is an English regen left-winger who came through that same first season 18/19 youth intake. This time, he apparently came through at Everton. He was on loan at Cambridge.

Curiosity got the better of me. I went into google, and simply searched 'Gabriel Maragh'. The findings were interesting.

The first result was a twitter thread where a player detailed his first season as manager of Leeds United. But look at his teamsheet here: https://twitter.com/MrROSSii1990/status/1151418261818490880

Left winger? A 16 year old, first year intake English winger regen called Gabriel Maragh. The next tweet along in the thread focuses just on Maragh. Follow it all along and he eventually moves to City for £52 million.

But it does not just end there. There's a link to a thread from January this year on the Sports Interactive community forums. https://community.sigames.com/topic/464672-boreham-wood-arsenals-little-brother/page/2/

Search the page for the word 'Gabriel' - and what do you know? A youth regen appeared at Boreham wood, the exact same club as in my Crewe save, called Gabriel Maragh. His position? Left winger, of course.

And the saga continues. Next up is a blog about an Everton save on the FM Base forums - posted just 3 weeks ago. http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/fm19-manager-stories/380458-everton-f-c-turning-merseyside-blue.html

Again, search the page for 'Gabriel' - and there he pops up again. A left winger. http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/attachments/fm19-manager-stories/1212062-everton-f-c-turning-merseyside-blue-tias0og.jpg. The user writes:

"Gabriel Maragh is being tipped as having the potential to be one of the best players of his generation! At 15 years old, he does look pretty shit hot!"

Interesting he comes through at Everton, just like in my current Telford save.

Then look at this tweet: https://twitter.com/NickyAfr0/status/1134763410162425856

Another top class English regen left winger called... Gabriel Maragh. This time coming through at Liverpool, as the user comments. Although looking at the career history we can see in the image, he makes his debut for Leeds United - just like that first tweeter we found?

It goes deeper. I found a Polish-language football manager forum post. The user has set up a custom club called Red Bull London, and posts for us his team. Look at who number 7 is? You guessed it. Gabriel motherfucking Maragh. Of course he's a left winger. Gabriel is even in Polish FM.

So my question is simple? Who is Gabriel Maragh? What gives him the ability to transcend different FM19 universes? Have you had your own Gabriel Maragh in game?

So what do you guys think is the reason that the announcement date is later than normal? Miles said it was for a “good reason”. I actually expected it to get announced during gamescom with lots of attention for the German league again.. but so far nothing...

What stage of FM-bond are you on right now?

    Posted: 21 Aug 2019 12:02 PM PDT

We all get to bond a bit with some of the teams or players we manage in the game that we wouldn't normally come across - the amount of non-british managers on here that follow non-league teams simply because of FM is an amazing example.

So right now, I'm at the stage of watching Leeds vs Brentford simply because Brentford signed one of the heroes of my current FM save in the summer and I got into an argument on Twitter where I said he'd play in the Premier League in the next couple of years.

    Which stage are you on?

    Beer fear - drunken FM

    Posted: 21 Aug 2019 12:13 AM PDT

Came in late last night from a few beers at the pub and powered through some weeks of pre-season transfer window. Now the beer fear is kicking in as I've no idea who I sold.
