    Pro Piacenza: The beginning.

    Posted: 18 Feb 2019 08:51 AM PST

Welcome to the story of how I will win the Champions League with Pro Piacenza, a side who are pretty much bankrupt and playing in Serie C. Yesterday (at the time im posting this) they lost a game 20-0 to Cuneo and only fielded 8 players. As soon as I saw this my first thought was can I win the Champions League with them on FM and you guys will get to find out. I will be posting 1/2 season updates on the teams progress, I just need to know how you'd like to see the updates. Eg in google docs etc.

Thanks for reading and get ready for episode 1

The 'social feed' could actually be good if it was mostly focused around the players' media accounts

    Posted: 18 Feb 2019 01:35 PM PST

I think everyone can agree that the social feed is fairly useless, apart from the occasional funny tweet it's basically a regular mix of "official tweet / positive fan / negative fan". It's a shame because in reality social media has become so prominent (think Pogba/Mourinho), and I think SI should maybe go a different way about it and focus on the players' accounts themselves.

For transfers you could have feed items like your wantaway striker following the PSG account or liking PSG fan media about him, which could stir things up in the media/fanbase/dressing room, or you could have a player unprofessionaly going to social media and making it clear that they're not happy with a manager or a lack of playing time (just to add more variety to the usual route). Alternatively, players in the squad who you've earned the trust of could come out in support of you and try rally people behind you in difficult times.

It would be quite easy I imagine to have a player's influence in social media directly linked to their in-game reputation and how much their tweets actually affect things, for better or for worse.

Also, it's tough handling the pressures and riches of being a teenage hot prospect for a top club, so the idea of a Jack Grealish type incident occasionally happening with young talents could make keeping discipline in the squad and guiding youngsters much more interesting and important in terms of their development!

I appreciate the advice, Sanllehí, but can you try leaving Manchester? I hear there's some good players outside of it too.

Does IRL football actually affect your football manager game?

    Posted: 18 Feb 2019 08:01 PM PST

This is always a common thought I have when I play through my football manager save that I never actually know the answer too way back to when Luka Modric was playing for Dinamo and during his hype in real life every time you start a new save with a new club you were heavily endorsed to sign him, (granted he was one of the best youngsters in the game at the time so that could just be coincidental but I'll come to that point in a second).

I'm talking about players who suddenly do well out of nowhere also being highlighted in the game when their stats weren't that noticeable before like during Benjani's goal-scoring phase, he was suddenly a recommended signing and Jamie Vardy suddenly being all over the news during that famous Leicester winning season. It's always been on my mind playing but it could just be coincidental as I'm obviously into football and I may just notice more things I'm familiar with from recent football events.

This is the same feeling with this game as now I see Ole Gunner Solkjaer mentioned a lot more and being touted for jobs more when I could swear this wasn't the case at the start (again could be familiarity bias but not sure).

Importantly though if this is a thing (if it doesn't, just ignore this) should your football manager save be affected by the real football world or should it merely be a simulation within the paradigm of the stats and figures given within the game? For example, let's go back when Fernando Torres stopped scoring for Chelsea and was a flop and as a result, the game may start reflecting this even though when looking at his base stats which were excellent he should be a star player. These kinds of things can have ramifications on your save based on who you sign, how you play against teams, do you base it on what the game says or how you think they actually play? Does it make it FM a better game as its closer to real life or does that inherently create more flaws? Unless this is all in my head, I'm mad and you can just ignore the crazy person.

How to improve set piece defense

    Posted: 18 Feb 2019 07:58 PM PST

Most of the goals scored on me come from set pieces, anyone have any advice they could give me about this?
