    The big club disease

    Posted: 13 Mar 2022 05:44 AM PDT

I have about 700 hours across FM21 and FM22 and I've spent just about all of them playing top teams like Bayern, Man City, PSG, Inter. I keep reading on this subreddit how big clubs are a tutorial for playing small clubs, and how experienced players don't go for them, but I just can't seem to get into playing a small club.

The first reason for that is because I pretty much don't know any football teams or players outside top 5 league first division, so I feel completely detached from my club and the situation it is in. I would pick a small club, look at their players and be like "Who are these people?" Obviously no disrespect to the actual players and clubs, I just personally don't follow them at all.

Second reason for that is because I like my list of players to be relatively stable - every single time I've tried playing a smaller team it seems impossible to keep your players because you can't offer them the wage they want to renew their contract. Also, you lose them for free because noone really wants to buy them for a price anyway, since they are second division or below. So from what I've seen apparently I need to get free transfers into the team every season because a bunch of contracts run out? The rosters of small clubs seem to be ever changing by default.

Anyway, I feel inferior for playing these big clubs over small ones since apparently they're really easy. It's even worse when sometimes I manage to underperform despite playing a big club. Any advice on this topic?

When you want your youth to be developed

Feeling sick because I had to change to 4231 Gegenpress.

    Posted: 13 Mar 2022 05:45 AM PDT

Absolutely flew through the Championship first season on a Nottingham Forest save. Won the league and reached the league cup final beating Everton, Liverpool and Palace on the way through using a 3421 controlling possession tactic.

Reach the Premier League, cannot win a match. Go about the first 5 games claiming only one point off of also newly promoted Fulham.

Switched to 4231 Gegenpress and now I'm in 11th place at the start of January but I just feel awful like I'm some how cheating the game.

Tactic shame is real. I apologise.

Does anyone use Inverted Wing-backs? If yes, how effective is it?

Just made the Vanarama South playoffs in the 94th minute of the last game of the season!

Here is my derby side that is stuck in the bottom half of the championship table, I just recently switched to this 5-back system and so far there's been improvements but still lost some games, I know this team is more than capable of playing in the premier league. Here is some key players/departures

The actual level Ronaldo and Messi

    Posted: 13 Mar 2022 07:31 AM PDT

Have you EVER had a save with a new-gen with god numbers like Ronaldo and Messi. I thought about it when I saw my 23-year-old striker score 56 goals in one season, all competitions. That's great but remember that Messi scored 91 goals when he was 25 years old.

I just thought about it and that I have NEVER even got a player that had even close numbers to that (Ronaldo 800 goals)

Who is the best player you have seen in any save?

What's the most exciting and attacking football you have ever played ?

    Posted: 13 Mar 2022 01:59 PM PDT

No matter what formation I play with my teams always end up playing the same which is generally 60% possession, trying to break down deep defences with lots of shots and few goals.

I was just wondering what's the most exciting, high scoring attacking football you have played. What sort of formation, roles and players did you use.

Ofc I'm not interested in plug and play game breaking formations but ones you made yourself.

Players that are better than their CA

    Posted: 13 Mar 2022 01:21 AM PST

I just finished my 5th Season with 1. FC Köln and again Bruno Tabata is my Fans player of the season and my player with the best ratings over the whole season. I don't know the exact values, but he should be roughly 25-30 CA behind my other attacking players (adeyemi, sesko, angelo, demir).

Why is he so damn good when his attributes are so much lower than everyone else's? Do you have players that perform way above the level they should perform? If yes who are they?

What to do about a certain individual at Man United

    Posted: 13 Mar 2022 10:58 AM PDT

I just started a new career with Manchester United in FM 20, and there is a certain youngster that I really don't want, but seeing as he is quite talented, there is a risk another big club will turn him into a star.

I don't have the editor so I can't just delete him.

How do I ruin his career for good?

    Home-field Advantage?

    Posted: 13 Mar 2022 04:36 PM PDT

Home-field Advantage is obviously a thing in FM (and irl), but does anyone know how exactly it's calculated in the game?

Does it boil down to stadium capacity and reputation? I'm thinking of how teams like Millwall have a small stadium, but a formidable atmosphere which makes playing there difficult..

    Player determination just randomly plummeted

    Posted: 13 Mar 2022 08:35 PM PDT

Signed a young decent regen GK to eventually replace Mendy, my starting GK in the future. He's been decent and performs on the same level as Mendy.

Then recently, I noticed his determination plummeted (like red arrow plummeting). He also picked up some negative personality traits even though his mentoring group doesn't have any bad personalities. Is there a way to fix this or set him straight? Or get his determination back up?
