Part 2! Managing the “toughest” club in FM (AFC Turris-Oltul Turnu Magurele)

    Part 2! Managing the

TANNK YOU! For the Mad support on the first post, I never expected so many of you to like my challenge/story, so there for I will come with more updates than I wat planning on, just for you guys.

First off, as some of you said in the comments, yes this club Dissolved here in 2021, after finishing 21st and getting relegated, a thing I'm trying my hardest NOT to recreate.

    The League.

And let's talk a bit about the league because it's important to know how many team get relegated.

    League format

There are 21 teams in the league, and the first part of the season everyone play each other once. Then the top 6 (Not Turris XD) go to a promotion league, and the bottom 15 team are split into to two pots with 7 teams in pot A and 8 in pot B, the teams will transfer over the points from the main league.

The teams placed 6th or lower get directly relegated (2 teams in pot A and 3 teams in Pot B) teams placed 5th go into a playoff against each other to se who the last team that gets relegated.

The league has run this format once in real life where the two playoff teams got 29 and 35 points from their 30 matches, so that's roughly my points goal.

    Start of the season.

As I said in the previous post, I was somewhat happy with the team I had constructed, and was looking forward to seeing what my 15 years old striker could do in this league, but on the day of our first game this happened…

On the day of the first game…

Just the perfect start to my career at Turris…

I started to create a tactic, I'm no tactical genius, but I wanted to keep it simple, but don't get too hung up on details in this tactic, it's going to change a lot this season.

    https://preview.redd.it/966qvgh5aql71.png?width=643&format=png&auto=webp&s=6cc9618ef22026a85299e6a3df22a5257177de59

    Transfers

I was good at understanding the league format, but not reading the rules, apparently my starting 11 had to have 1 player under 18 and 2 players under 20, so I had to loan an under 19 players in, because I only had 4 players U18 one of them is my 2. goalie, and I'm not changing the dad in goal.

    Games

I won't go into too much detail about every match, but if something happens, I will write something about it.

GW1 Fc Buzau - Turris 3-1 (Buzau predicted to finish 10th)

My hopes going into the first game were mixed to say the least, but when my second choice striker Cristian Marin score after only 3 minutes, I was flying in the clouds, wondering if we could get promoted this season, even after the equalizer just before halftime. But then it all came tumbling down, conceded 2 free kick goals and got a red card in the second half, and my high hopes at the break was shot right down.

GW 3 Dacia - Turris 2-2 (Dacia predicted to finish 18th)

Again, we score the first goal, but have a very back and forth game, with both teams having plenty of chances to seal the game, it comes down to my third choice striker Andrei score a late equalizer in the 90th min, and some of the hope from GW1 was back.

    GW 6 Turris-Dej 4-1 (Dej predicted to finish 20th)

A Must win game, with a lot at risk if we didn't get the 3 points, luckily for us Andrei scored a header and a well placed finish in the 23rd and 24th min, they grab a equalizer and I'm shiting bricks, but thankfully we score 2 goals in the second half to secure us our first win, and the scenes here in my living room where mad, I was full of joy, dancing and celebrating.

4 points from the first 6 games, is better than what I expected, but it's still going to be a long season.

    The league after 6 ames

The league looks like this after 6 games, I'm not going to come with a prediction of where we are going to finish, I'm simply so much in doubt, maybe you guys are brave enough to come with a prediction?

But at least we're breaking records XD

    The club

When you hire every single player for your squad in one transfer window the hierarchy looks a bit funny and might play a part in us not performing at our highest level, but very interesting that the dad in goal Blanariu is moving up to be the leader.

    Team hierarchy

Another fun thing I noticed is that we have 546 very sad people that bought a season ticket for a team that was bound to be relegated, and even more sad when you realize they paid 5 pounds for the season ticket whet a normal ticket price is 0 pounds.

    My 50-year-old GK.

A lot of comments was about our dad in goal, interestingly enough he had only played 2 games prior to joining me, so it does feel like I have pulled him out of a retirement home only to play for us.

    Goalkeeper Dad

If there is anything you want me to show you, just write a comment about it and I will put it in the next post, I will struggle on and hopefully get more than our 4 points.

    An Experience I'll Never Forget

    Posted: 05 Sep 2021 03:52 PM PDT

I haven't used reddit much, and the only times I have it's been because this sub is the most dedicated place for a game that only I play amongst the people I know in real life, but I want to put this out there to anyone who is interested in reading it.

I guess I should give some context to preface this but I don't know where else to put it but here.

I started playing Football Manager in July of 2019, I wanted to create a club in England, so I made this team and filled it with a bunch of fake players. The more I played it, the more invested into football manager I got, but the thing was, months passed and I only ever had this one singular save file. I used the editor a fair amount in the early years of the game, and I used it less as years passed within the game. Following around twenty years and extreme success with the created club, I tried to make Paris FC superior to PSG, and spent a healthy amount of time to develop the club, eventually winning the UCL there after about a decade. Afterwards I spent the next decade with Servette FC in Switzerland, eventually upsetting Man U in a UCL final around 2060. The last ten years in game with the character I named after myself I went back to the created club for several more UCL wins. After my retirement I started a new in game character in 2070 to coach Eastern AA in Hong Kong for seven or so years, eventually moving to Tennis Borussia Berlin in the 3. Liga, winning the UCL three times in a row with them after being stuck in mediocrity with them. In 2093 that character left TeBe for Sassuolo where the summarized story there ends. There's so much more I can say, I have saved games and characters I can reminisce about but I don't really know what to do now, and I'll get into this later.

In real life, to reflect the amount of time I dedicated to this single save file went from the time I was a sophomore in high school, to now going into my first year of university. According to steam I have 5,861 hours on Football Manager 2019, the version I played this file on. That is definitely an overestimate, because a lot of that time I would just have it open in the background during online class throughout the pandemic or it would be simulating between games and I'd forget about it, but I played every game of every season minus friendlies and some cup ties against low level teams. For one month I had to stop to get maintenance on my computer to replace a spacebar that never actually got replaced; I've been using a Q-tip held in place by a piece of tape for the past 5 months. A lot of other things happened in my personal life too, but I could always come back to football manager. When I started working this shitty job as a dishwasher at this depressing restaurant in my city I always would come home from late night shifts knowing I could play a few games and feel like something, and it got to the point where the reality inside the game became something I could dwell on when bored, something that always felt comforting to me. This save file got me through a pandemic, and the last few years of high school. And I loved it. I played it all the time because no sports game had such an immersive realistic world that actually recorded in game history. Football manager is absolutely brilliant in its simulation and the way it works.

This week I wanted to try something new, I wanted to try a new save that incorporated NCAA Men's Division I Soccer, to include the university I'm moving to in two weeks. I downloaded a mod, one that has been extremely fun to play with, and started the first save file that's exceeded an actual day of usage other than the one that I've used nearly everyday since Summer of 2019. Today I tried to go back to the original save, but I found that the only save tied to it I can find would take me back to about 2073, nearly twenty years further back than it should be. All the progress with Eastern Athletic, TeBe and Sassuolo is gone, and seemingly nothing can be done about it. I don't know what to do next. It feels sacrilegious to try to go back to 2073 and recreate anything, even knowing who wins what and when. It feels pointless and I've been seriously at a loss of what to do considering the dedication I've put into the save file. For reference the backup data is from early April, and I don't even know if I ever want to play football manager again, not even with the new save file involving my university's team.

I love this game, and I've loved the community, and I loved my save file. I feel empty thinking about it, but I want to put this out there to a forum that cares, I live in America, no one here cares about the game, but I want to archive it's existence somewhere on the internet. I have a few saved games following the time I lost, as well as memorable players and other things. I also have plenty of screenshots and all the in game history between 2018 to 2073, something I became pretty obsessed with recording and archiving where possible, it was something I had a lot of fun with. If you have any questions (especially regarding the in game history and how things changed throughout the years), suggestions, concerns or anything else, please please please comment below. I want to discuss this here, and the other times I've posted its been tremendously respectful.

Thank you, and have a fantastic day.

Having trouble choosing a team to manage?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2021 01:25 AM PDT

Me and my friends started this last year and it was a great success. We basically ordered a mystery jersey and chose that team. That way you get a connection to the team you are managing and you actually feel connected to them in real life. We told the site we were buying from to exclude almost all big teams and to exclude some leagues that wasn't in the game. Got inspired by someone on this sub a long time ago who had a player in his save who he liked so much he bought a shirt with his name on the back. Hoping that some of you guys do this and maybe I'll see some threads about it in a couple of months time.

Newer member to this sub. Seems any man and their dog (apart from me) can take some tin pot club from non league to European glory within 10 years. Is it me just being a crap manager? Tell me about some of your failures as a manager to make me feel better lol.

Football manager should have a Director of Football mode

    Posted: 05 Sep 2021 05:34 PM PDT

I feel like a big part of the fun in FM is the recruitment, and as much as micro-managing every part of your throw-in routine for your Romanian third tier team is fun, so is managing PSG and hoovering up the entirety of Colombia while breaking the world record transfer fee buying the best player in the world (for me at least). It sometimes gets tedious managing every game in the season when you know you're going to win the league, while trying to manage the entire scouting network at the same time. Even though technically you can leave your game to your AssMan to manage, it just doesn't give the same feeling as hiring Jose Mourinho or Pep Guardiola to take charge of your team. Don't know if anyone else feels the same way, but I feel like it would be a nice break/twist from normal FM and it would be super cool if SI actually implemented it.
