Youth Poaching: Step by step guide

    Posted: 05 Jun 2021 09:17 AM PDT

I've seen a couple posts today and thought I'd share a guide on how to poach youth academy kids from CPUs. Just know what I'm about to share will flood your academy. Which may, in theory, sound awesome but remember this when you get 6 years deep into a poaching save, March becomes a 6 hr ordeal, and you are managing 100+ loans every summer - With great power comes great responsibility.

If you do give this a go despite my workflow description it'll probably take you a few seasons to work through the kinks. But dw. I'll have you poaching players asap.

What do you need? To begin with to make this work you really need a kick ass scouting team. Typically each scout can cover about 4-5 players per week. You're going to want at least 12/14 scouts to be able to do this effectively. The busy days will have about 60+ players getting regen'ed

When do you start? Early March. That's when Europe starts popping out regens. Usually starts with teams in Germany and English clubs come shortly after. Usually 4/5 days. So when March rolls around, start poking your head in the youth intake too see who's come in.

Where do I find them? 1) click world icon (top right) 2) go to the world category 2) go to transfers 3) filter by youth intake

Now.. buckle up, things are about to get wild. Before we even start this workflow make sure your scouting queue is empty!

What's the workflow? 1) make sure you start in the morning, 8am or 9am if possible (your scouts can typically provide a recomendation after a 9-5 shift) 2) goto the youth intake tab - get scout report on new gens the SAME DAY your on. 3) continue to later in the day (5pm-8pm) 4) go to scouting tab - under assignments - scout priorities 5) sort by recommendation and your top shouts will be at the top. You can directly approach to sign - there is a minor compensation fee 6) clear your queue of any one who you aren't offering a contract too because you gotta start the whole thing over tomorrow

    A few things to note:

    • Some batches of players will take the full week to return a recomendation. Don't be afraid to cancel them or try to make "semi informed" decisions on who to keep scouting for the week.

    • It can be very easy to get behind in the workflow. Make sure you know what your scouting limit is (how many players you can scout at once) and be careful you don't bite off more than you can chew.

    • While I'd recommend being selective with your signings. I had a few seasons where id sign any one with 5 star PA recomendatuon. You can typically just loan em out for 3-4 years. And cash in for 30-60 mil on fairly average players.

I've rambled alot here. Hope this makes sense. 😂

My butthole clenched slightly when I saw this guy in the starting lineup against me

Free transfer! (Yes the wages are expensive but figured he was more than worth it!)

Football Manager? Completed it mate. A few clenched cheeks during this season but honestly my hardest games where bottom table teams and where saved by either impact subs or last minute pens.

Gotta respect wycombe for going up in the first season

An example of why the World Cup format (16 groups of 3 teams) in 2026 onwards is terrible. Teams will be inclined to play risk-averse and draw a lot. The final tiebreaker is apparently a number of yellow/red cards. Thoughts?

    Well... that’s technically a hat-trick...

I’ve never seen a rating so low in this game before

    I definitely didn‘t buy a whole squad..

In all my 4 years of experience with FM, I have never had a better striker. Just look at the goals, EIGHTY-THREE.

    The perks of managing Hoffenheim

    Posted: 05 Jun 2021 02:52 PM PDT

Naturally the winning goal against me in the CL final is scored in the 94th minute by a 17 year old on his debut

    Posted: 05 Jun 2021 10:43 AM PDT

Started playing FM in 2018. Did a journeyman save but my laptop died before I could win the CL. Bought a new laptop this year, been at Darmstadt 98 for 12 seasons and (with a few kind draws and good fortune) won the Champions League last night.

What’s the story with your favorite player?

    Posted: 05 Jun 2021 06:52 PM PDT

In the year 2028 My Middlesbrough team has a player called tete (plays for Shakhtar in real life) anyways I've developed a bond with tete he has been through it all with me. While he hasn't been capped by Brazil or received any personal awards he is always a certain starter for my team.

When the time comes I imagine us both going to USA and dominating the MLS while we kick back some beers on a beach talking of the days in the premier league.

Anyone else got a favorite player like me?
