Attacking is the best mentality for a solid defense Posted: 02 Jun 2021 05:59 PM PDT I have been trying to find a solid defensive system as I am one of those people that wants either a 1-0 to preserve a clean sheet or an all out gung ho 7-4 game. No defensive system seemed to work for no matter how many PI I add or OIs although OIs can be effective. I have though (on FM19 with Napoli, then FM20 with Schalke) managed to combine a defensive shape with fairly aggressive roles and some TI and OI to make my teams quite solid defensively. With Napoli we have conceded around 12 goals after the first 27 or so league games (I don't have the exact numbers as the tablet I play on has battery issues and is currently dead and refuses to charge). With Schalke I joined them in 16th on FM20 in 20-21 season in February and have kept 8 consecutive clean sheets. Scored 8 conceded zero as the screenshot will show if I can get it attached. Bustthenet had this video on youtube where he outlined the "Iron maiden" defense and I combined that with the fact that in recent FMs the best form of defense is attack and also Thomas Tuchels 3/5 at the back with 2 DMs possession system. Napoli was a 4-3-3 DM Wide and also we played a higher line because I had better players and I had the summer window to sign a defender, Koulibaly had left and they had Milenkovic and a 19 YO kid, Claudio Manzi I think. What was the same in both saves was an attacking mentality and very aggressive pressing without having the counter press on. Defending very proactively is apparently very succesful on FM. (Haven't tried much on FM21 although I will obviously be trying to keep the best defensive record next time I play with United on FM21;)) TL;DR (is that how it's done?) Press a lot, no counter press, attacking mentality, tight marking TI and OI on specific very dangerous players. [link] [comments] | ||
