    Unemployed and Uneducated (PART ONE)

    For years I've really enjoyed stories about FM saves on Reddit and other places, and this time I thought I'd make one of my own.

    On every FM I make one save where I start as unemployed with no coaching badges or experience. My main target isn't to travel to as many countries or continents as possible, but to make my way up the managerial ladder and end up becoming the very best.

    PART ONE - A BAD DECISION?

    Imagine that you've started your career in management with no coaching badges, no experience, and no job. You took charge of Hebar Pazardzhik in the Bulgarian second division in 2020 and won promotion to the prestigious efbet liga, the crème de la crème of Bulgarian football in 2021. What would you do?

    You would leave, wouldn't you? At least that's what I did. After having tactically outsmarted big names such as Ivan Kolev and Hristo Arangelov, the European football elite is surely desperate for your signature. Right?

    Well, they weren't. Turns out Real Madrid and Juventus weren't currently hiring. The clubs that were, such as Cherno More and Spartak Trnava "felt there were stronger candidates out there". They don't know what they missed out on. My unemployment went from weeks to months. Hebar were playing their first matches in the top division. Meanwhile I was sat in my shit apartment in Pazardzhik watching from a distance. I applied for almost every job that became available. But even on the few occations when I was getting job interviews, I just couldn't seal the deal.

    That was until I saw an advertisement for a charming little club situated in western parts of Stockholm. IF Brommapojkarna is probably Swedens most famous "small" club. Despite rarely featuring in the top divisions, they're famous for their academy which has brought through many of Sweden's best ever players.

    Instead of trying to get an unlikely promotion with Brommapojkarna, their manager fucked off to Sirius, who eventually got relegated back into the second division anyway. But that meant that a job was available. I quickly applied for the job, nailed the interview, and took charge for the last three games of the season. As promotion was no longer on the cards, I used the last few matches to experiment with the team. It went terribly.

    Just like in real life, Brommapojkarna are great at youth development in Football Manager. Just two years into the game we had several good regens who featured in the starting eleven. That also means that we have loads of players in the squad, most of whom were absolute shit. I wanted to introduce the same 4-3-3 system with a deep-lying playmaker as a defensive midfielder. The problem was we did not have one DM in the squad, and I wasn't able to find any suitable ones through our very limited scouting system. I instead turned to the holy grail of Football Manager: 4-2-3-1 Gegenpress.

    But let's not skip too far ahead just yet. During pre-season I wanted to follow the club's real-life transfer strategy by focusing on signing younger players. I picked up Swedish winger Petar Petrovic and a young Danish centre-back called Filip Panjeskovic.

    But I would now like to introduce you to one of the main characters of this story. A scouting report popped up and immediately caught my eye. It showed a 16-year-old Danish striker playing for Eidsvoll Turn in the third tier of Norwegian football. His name was Kasper Wærn. His finishing wasn't great, and he was neither quick nor particularly tall, but his passing and mental attributes… oh my. If he learned to shoot a ball and run a bit quicker, he would be the born striker. I picked him up for pennies and pictured him as a decent third choice striker who would get a few minutes here and there to begin with.

    The season began, and we won almost every match at home. But at the start of the season, we could barely ever get a point away. Must have been the intimidating crowds in the Swedish second division. We basically won every other game, but that's not good enough to be a real promotion contender. We did however somehow find ourselves in around 5th place for most of the season.

    Kasper Wærn, the prodigy who wasn't even old enough for a pro contract didn't have such a variable season. Cause he was consistently dreadful. He got regular minutes and even started a few games, but just wasn't capable of scoring. After a while, the press started bashing him on a weekly basis for not having scored his first goal. Bit harsh for a 16-year-old. But if I didn't have faith in him, who would? I saw his potential, I kept giving him the chance, and I wasn't going to give up that easily.

    With just two games left of the season, Kasper still hadn't scored a single goal despite having had plenty of opportunities to do so. We still had the chance to get the third-place play-off spot, but we needed to beat Östers IF at home. After an hour of missing chances, it stood 1-1. I had a feeling that this was his time. Kasper Wærn enters the pitch. In the 68th minute, we win a penalty.

    Our regular penalty taker Michael Wiström got ready, but I had someone else in mind. "Kasper!", I shouted. "Give it to Kasper!" Wiström looked confused as he walked away from the ball. It was a potential season-defining moment, and I put the responsibility on the high shoulders of an anxious 16-year-old with a penalties attribute of six. Kasper Wærn steps up…

    FM 2020 crashes Macbook Pro with a purple screen.

    So I'm running the new M1 Macbook Pro and a couple minutes after I start the game, it completely crashes my laptop. A purple screen/ purple lines are displayed before the Mac reboots itself. I've noticed that this normally happens after the cursor starts flickering. I've also noticed that normally it happen once every day when I start the game for the first time. After crash when it's done rebooting, the game runs fine until the next day when I start it again.

    It's really annoying because I'm not able to go on my long runs in the game because it crashes after a match or two. It's really killing the fun so I was wondering if anyone has had the same issue and knows and potential fixes.
