Just turned down a 9x salary raise, a 15x payroll increase, and a 400x transfer budget increase...

    Posted: 05 Apr 2021 07:38 AM PDT

and it was a harder decision than some real life work ones I've made. I'm managing Port Vale and had a 5 year plan to get them into the PL (and end one of, if not the longest drought, of top flight football in England). Currently struggling in the championship but I gave myself 2 years in each new division (one to settle, and one to get promoted). IE - Promotion (check)/Avoid Relegation (check)/Promotion (check)/Avoid relegation (ongoing). I'm going for the Eddie Hough manager of the decade achievement.

Anyway, crystal palace somehow had lost all 5 games to open their championship season (with Steve McClaren) and I interviewed (I was head hunted) and got offered the job. Their payroll was $91MILLION (Port vales is a measly $5mil) and a transfer budget of $24MILLION (mine is $60k to fulfil the payroll I have and I did spend some money before tweaking the budget). I think I got the job as I said I could operate at a lower payroll the job offered contained $74MILLION in payroll.

Lastly, my Port Vale salary is a pathetic $158k and Crystal Palace offered just shy of a million.

I created a new save at this point in case I regret it as 22nd now with Palace at 21st after 12 games.

I feel good about my decision now but if I get relegated and my 5 year plan is fucked, I may have to ride off while my stock is high.
