    what a performance!

Just started a save with Aston Villa and I'm quite literally building the team around Jack Grealish.

An alternate timeline where PSG can't win a game in Ligue 1

    Posted: 27 Feb 2021 04:29 PM PST

As many fellow managers know, PSG is overpowered in this game, they throw money at every possible good regen you have and dominate the Ligue 1 in almost every save. Even in my AFC Rushden & Diamonds save where Ligue 1 is not loaded, they still won the Champions Cup.

    However, in an alternate timeline...

    February 28, 2021. Paris.

Everything looks perfectly fine for PSG. In the FM world, PSG fans are very happy since their team just beat FC Lorient 4-0 and achieved a 15-game winning streak in all competitions. They are currently on 67 points in Ligue 1, 10 points ahead of second-placed Monaco, with a game in hand. They are also in the semi-finals of the French Cup, and just beat Inter Milan 2-0 in the Champions Cup first knockout round. What could possibly go wrong?

Savior En-passant is an unemployed young guy. He was in the PSG youth academy, but his contract was terminated several years ago since his PA is only 7. He still wants to be the best football manager of all time -- but he doesn't even have a license. Today, he publicly declares interest in the PSG job. No one even cares, since and the job status of Pochettino is still "Very Secure". Savior is really annoyed.

Little did they know, Savior is a time traveller. He can choose between different timelines. He is not good at football, but good at the magic by the name of "save scum". He decides that PSG can never win a game in Ligue 1 ever again -- only in Ligue 1. They can still win games in cups, in European competitions, in Ligue 2, but just not in Ligue 1. So, the worst nightmare of PSG fans begins --

    The FM-simulated Ligue 1 table on February 28, 2021.

    Rules:

I save scum whenever PSG wins a Ligue 1 match. It's that simple, duh. I also keep record of how many times I need to reload for each match.

    March 7, 2021

PSG faces Nantes away after beating them 4-0 in the French Cup semi-final on March 2nd, extending their winning streak to 16 matches. However, today is the day that our hero Savior starts save-scumming.

    PSG 1-2 Nantes (0 reloads)

Savior doesn't even use his magic. PSG was dominating, the xG is 2.65-0.84, but Nantes survived late pressure after taking the lead thanks to Augustin and Coco's goals.

"Well, it's just a loss, it happens sometimes." PSG fans think. But it's far from the end of PSG's nightmare.

    March 14, 2021

PSG just drew 1-1 with Inter to qualify for the quarter finals in the Champions Cup. They are hosting RC Lens who are battling relegation today.

They won easily, 3-0. But just as PSG fans were celebrating the victory, Mr. En-passant starts his "save-scum" magic.

Another 3-0. And again, 4-0. And again, and again...

    PSG 1-1 Lens (6 reloads)

The xG is 3.43-0.98. But PSG failed to score that all-important winning goal. Neymar scored once, but got a booking, which means he's suspended for the next match.

    March 19, 2021

PSG has an away match at 12th-placed Montpelier. They won easily, 2-0. But, Mr. En-passant performed his magic again. And again.

    PSG 0-1 Montpelier (2 reloads)

PSG had 15 shots and 2.08 xG but 0 goals. And the story repeats itself...

PSG 1-2 Angers (5 reloads) xG 1.47-1.88 (yes, PSG had lower xG)

    PSG 2-2 Metz (3 reloads) xG 3.17-1.39

Note: PSG lost to Atletico Madrid 1-4 (1-1 Home, 0-3 Away) in the Champions Cup Quarter Finals. Pochettino's job security was changed to "Secure".

    PSG 1-2 LOSC (1 reload) xG 2.28-1.18

    PSG 2-2 Nimes (2 reloads) xG 0.97-0.40

PSG secured an EC2 spot but lost to OL 1-3 in the French Cup final

    PSG 2-3 Monaco (0 reloads) xG 2.56-2.03

PSG lost top spot despite 2 games in hand. Pochettino's job security was changed to "Stable".

    PSG 1-1 Rennes (7 reloads) xG 2.98-2.10

PSG secured an Euro Cup spot.

    PSG 2-2 OL (4 reloads) xG 2.68-0.96

    PSG 1-1 Bordeaux (0 reloads) xG 1.11-0.35

PSG secured an European Champions Cup spot.

    PSG 2-2 Reims (4 reloads) xG 2.54-1.98

    PSG 1-1 OM (10 reloads) xG 3.53-0.89

(OM is seriously terrible in this game...)

PSG lost the title before Monaco's match started. Shouldn't all matches start at the same time for the final round? Well, maybe because of Savior's magics, Monaco are able to celebrate their Ligue 1 win before playing against relegated Lorient!

By this point, PSG fans might already feel something was wrong. Why is PSG drawing or losing every game despite being in domination? They didn't win in the last 17 matches, which is a club record! Anyway, Pochettino's job status becomes "insecure", but maybe they can win back the title the next year?

Not if Savior continues his magic!

Final Ligue 1 table of season 1

    PSG Transfers 2020/21

Meanwhile, Manchester City beat Juventus 2-1 to win the Champions Cup, and Arsenal beat Milan 2-1 to win the Euro Cup.

I only loaded the French leagues, so I found it strange that France lost 1-2 to Croatia in the European Football Championship knockout round 1, and Deschamps was sacked. And it's even more insane that Switzerland beat Portugal 1-0 to win it. Savior's magics must have changed something in this timeline!

But, Savior made a mistake. He saw that PSG's first match was scheduled on 7th August, so he went on a holiday till 7th August. When he came back, PSG already beat Reims 3-1 (the match was rescheduled to the 6th). So, sorry Switzerland fans, Savior will have to return to the end of May...

This time Manchester City still beat Juventus 1-0, France lost 0-2 to England in the knockout round 1, Deschamps was sacked (again), and somehow Switzerland made it to the finals again, but lost 1-2 to Italy. And Savior can finally start his magics!

    Season 2

    August 6, 2021

PSG 1-1 Reims (12 reloads, including the first fail) xG 2.88-0.94

A draw on the opening day is not that bad, however, PSG fans are already furious at the club since they now failed to win in their last 18 matches. They spent 266M in the transfer window, hoping for a Champions Cup win. But they could never know what was actually going against them -- because they didn't even care about Savior, the time traveller.

    PSG 1-2 Lens (34 reloads) xG 1.81-0.98

That's pretty tiring, even for Savior.

    PSG 2-3 Brest (2 reloads) xG 1.46-1.56

    PSG 1-1 Amiens (68 reloads) xG 2.97-0.30

To be fair, Savior even thought of giving up for this match. The newly promoted Amiens were consistently hammered by PSG, with countless 4-0s and 5-0s, several 7-0s, one 9-0 and one 11-0. But his hatred for PSG eventually prevailed and Amiens finally got a draw against 10-men PSG after the 68th time he used his magic. Hooray!

    PSG 2-2 Monaco (5 reloads) xG 2.07-2.23

Pochettino's job is still "stable" as PSG beat Legia 4-0 in the Champions Cup to end their 22-match winless run. But their bad luck in Ligue 1 still continues.

    PSG 1-1 Nice (5 reloads) xG 3.11-0.84

    PSG 1-2 OL (0 reloads) xG 1.57-3.04

    PSG 2-2 Saint-Etienne (6 reloads) xG 1.85-2.03

(PSG beat Inter 2-1 at home!)

    PSG 1-1 Dijon (9 reloads) xG 2.17-1.12

    PSG 1-1 Rennes (1 reload) xG 3.30-1.08

(PSG beat Barcelona 1-0 away! Barcelona is in trouble!)

    PSG 2-2 Bordeaux (8 reloads) xG 3.60-0.89

    PSG 2-2 OM (0 reloads) xG 3.34-1.88

Amazingly, despite being "destroyed" by Savior, PSG is now on a 8-game unbeaten streak in all competitions with a 3-0 home win against Barcelona (it seems that FM doesn't like Barca), and they are still outside the drop zone with 9 points!

    PSG 2-2 Angers (1 reload) xG 2.77-1.23

    PSG 0-2 LOSC (5 reloads) xG 0.77-1.41

PSG bounced back to beat Legia 2-1 and qualified as the top seed, Barcelona crashes out of the Champions Cup.

    PSG 2-2 Auxerre (12 reloads) xG 2.02-1.70

And, it's a sad day for poor Pochettino, who did very well to keep his job till now. After being held to a draw by Auxerre, PSG still lies outside the drop zone, but with one more game played. Savior didn't even bother applying for the job, because he's now determined to get every PSG manager sacked. He's now watching who will take this cursed job. Kovac from Monaco is the initial favourite for the PSG job. Will he make the worst decision in his life by taking the PSG job?

    PSG 1-1 Metz (14 reloads) xG 1.83-1.17

    PSG 2-2 Nimes (11 reloads) xG 2.16-0.55

With Neymar injured for 2 weeks, PSG were still able to held Inter to a 1-1 draw to finish on 16 points from the group of death. However, PSG has now gone 30 Ligue 1 games without a win. After getting sacked by France, Deschamps took the PSG job... Poor guy.

    PSG 0-1 Strasbourg (5 reloads) xG 2.18-0.98

Deschamps's debut at PSG ended in disaster as both sides ended up with 10 men. PSG dropped into the relegation play-off zone with only 13 points. (Still much better than Rotherham in my AFC R&D save)

    PSG 1-1 Montpelier (24 reloads) xG 0.84-0.70

PSG is playing against a National 2 team FC Fleury 91 in the French Cup 9th Round. Mr. En-passant is crazy, but not insane, so he won't try to do any magic with that result. PSG only won 3-1 though.

The transfer window opened before the French Cup match. PSG is about to throw money at good players again... But wait, who wants to join a Ligue 2 club?

    PSG 0-1 Lens (12 reloads) xG 3.54-1.11

What's worse, Navas got injured in this match and will be out for the next few weeks. Will that make Savior's magic easier?

PSG beat Toulouse 3-0 in the French Cup. But whenever they come to league action...

    PSG 1-1 Brest (9 reloads) xG 2.10-1.86

Strangely, even without winning, PSG is not in the direct relegation zone for quite a long time. But after this round, they dropped to the bottom of the table. They beat Strasbourg 3-1 in the French Cup.

    PSG 1-1 Amiens (4 reloads) xG 0.28-1.19

Ah, Amiens again. But only 4 times? PSG's morale might be the leading factor. They even had less xG than Amiens!

    PSG 1-1 Monaco (0 reloads) xG 1.26-1.22

PSG fans start tweeting some stuff like "We are staying up, say we are staying up" after this match. Seeing this, Savior only shakes his head.

    PSG 1-2 Nice (0 reloads) xG 3.03-1.47

PSG also lost 1-2 to Brest and exited the French Cup. Deschamps's job status is already "Insecure".

    PSG 1-1 OL (0 reloads) xG 3.56-0.55

    PSG 2-2 Saint-Etienne (23 reloads) xG 3.45-0.74

    PSG 1-1 Dijon (2 reloads) xG 2.85-2.08

    PSG 1-1 Rennes (1 reload) xG 2.08-0.33

    PSG 0-1 Bordeaux (15 reloads) xG 0.36-0.37

PSG set a new record of Ligue 1 -- they managed to get 21 league draws. They still beat Club Brugge in the Champions Cup, 2-1 away and 1-1 at home.

    PSG 1-2 OM (0 reloads) xG 0.84-1.61

After losing Le Classique without Savior using his magic even once, PSG dropped into the relegation zone again.

    PSG 1-1 Angers (2 reloads) xG 1.53-0.67

Another bad news for PSG: Mbappe is out for 2 to 3 months. They lost to Manchester City (Home 2-2, Away 0-3) in the Champions Cup.

    PSG 2-2 Auxerre (98 reloads) xG 4.90-1.29

Well, Savior knows his work is tough here. Newly promoted AJ Auxerre is the current bottom club, they are even worse than the winless PSG. They are winless in 11, with very low morale -- no wonder it takes a whole 98 times for Savior to choose the correct timeline.

    PSG 1-2 LOSC (0 reloads) xG 1.87-1.52

    PSG 1-1 Metz (11 reloads) xG 2.23-1.69

    PSG 2-2 Nimes (0 reloads) xG 1.52-1.78

    PSG 3-3 Strasbourg (0 reloads) xG 1.82-2.16

    PSG 2-2 Montpelier (1 reload) xG 2.80-0.96

It's the final day of Ligue 1. PSG is now sitting on 27 points, at the bottom of the table. Auxerre and Metz are on 28 points and Amiens is on 29 points. Obviously, by the power of Mr. En-passant, PSG can't win. But if they draw, they still have a chance to stay up through play-offs.

    PSG 2-2 Reims (0 reloads) xG 4.23-0.61

Both Auxerre and Metz lost and dropped into Ligue 2. Now PSG has a chance to stay up through the relegation play-off against EA Guingamp. However, Savior decided that relegation play-offs are also Ligue 1 matches, so he'll still be using his magic...

    PSG 1-1 Guingamp (8 reloads) xG 2.45-0.42

    May 29, 2022

    PSG 2-3 Guingamp (1 reload) xG 3.23-2.00

It's a sad day for PSG fans as Savior is finally able to relegate PSG purely by the power of the "save-scumming" magic! Their winless streak in Ligue 1 stops at 53.

Juventus made revenge as they beat Manchester City 1-0 to win the Champions Cup. Sevilla beat Barcelona 1-0 to show them their Euro Cup dominance. Leeds United (?!) beat Real Sociedad on penalties to win the Euro Cup II.

    Final table of Ligue 1

    PSG transfers: Part 1 2 3

Of course, most of the PSG squad are asking to leave the club. But Savior is a nice guy. He doesn't care about Ligue 2 matches. Can PSG bounce straight back under Deschamps (Yes, he's still not sacked)?

    (To be continued...)

The save if anyone wants to take PSG back to Ligue 1. I myself will be trying it.

What are your best crafty tricks in the game?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2021 09:18 AM PST

Mine is if I want a player but the selling club are asking for too much money, I instead set up a loan deal (if possible) with a ridiculously high monthly fee and low optional fee. I will then trigger the optional fee once the loan deal is complete and make the move permanent.

For example, I wanted Esposito but Inter were asking £36m, I did a loan deal for £1.5m per month and £14m optional fee and bought him as soon as the loan went through.

As far as I can tell you only pay one-month loan fee, the rest definitely doesn't come out of the transfer budget anyway. So I got a £36m player for £15.5m.

    Any other crafty tricks?

GLOBAL WARMING IS A REAL THING

Arsenal at 10th place when I took over January, dipped a bit into the winter transfer window, built the team around Saka, Odegaard, and ESR, undefeated for 15 straight league matches, entered the title race with Man City and Liverpool, won the league on the final match day.

Arsenal at 10th place when I took over January, dipped a bit into the winter transfer window, built the team around Saka, Odegaard, and ESR, undefeated for 15 straight league matches, entered the title race with Man City and Liverpool, won the league on the final match day.

Yesterday I began this Arsenal save. Usually I could never start a save at the beginning of the season, I have no idea why, only that I enjoy the challenge of building up from a position. Arteta was doing a disasterclass with the team: 10th place, so I guess not much different from real life. I took over at the new year, first transfer window enabled, so I dipped my toes in it. Got myself a back up LB so that I didn't have to overwork Saka should Tierney get injured (and as predicted, Tierney got 3-4 months out after an FA cup loss Everton game that went to ET; it was also the same game that injured Pepe for 5-6 months) and Kristoff Ajer for what I thought was a bargain (30mil). Anyways, started off with a shaky 1-0 win against Fulham, then a 3-0 demolition by Man City. After that was smooth-sailing. Undefeated for at least a month or so. Got into a title challenge with City and Liverpool, would never have thought I'd be up against them. Lost to Liverpool 1-0 and Aston Villa 1-0 during the final weeks, almost gave up hope on the title (though I wouldn't have been devastated to missed out on it) however Man City wins against Liverpool, loses against Leicester the penultimate game week of the season. I still got a chance, only that the game was against Man City. I played my strongest team (bar Tierney and Pepe, of course) and won a fluke 3-0 against Pep's side while Liverpool wins their Leeds game 3-0. We win the league on goal difference. Incredible drama, Aubameyang top score of the season, Odegaard with the top assister and performer in the league (I couldn't afford him on a permanent deal, opted for an extended loan instead). I never had a better season.
