From the outskirts of Copenhagen to the pinnacle league of the world

Hi' guys, wants to share a little story from my latest FM-save :)

I haven't been playing much FM the last 6-7 years, but my career goes back to CM95/96, putting in lots of lots of hours for FM'ing. Some years ago I had the most legendary save ever, taking danish team Hvidovre IF to the top of danish football and reaching the Champions League-final and getting my regen Kjetil Hansen voted European Footballer of the Year. When coming back to FM this year, I started off as a Hvidovre manager once again, as a tribute to that legendary save.I set up some goals for the save which was:- Take Hvidovre as far as I can

    - Win the Champions League final

    - Manage Manchester United

Hvidovre IF didn't have any transfer funds at all, and a pretty huge debt, so could only make one-year contracts, and expectations was not the relegate from the Danish 1. division (second best league). In the first season I finished 8th, which was satisfying, before finishing 3rd two seasons in a row afterwards. Finally, in my 4th season, I got promoted to Superligaen, and I was to fight against relegation. I was second to last almost all season, and towards the end of the season I was offered more funds for bravely fight against relegation. I said yes thank you to the money, but in the end I couldn't avoid the drop... And I got fired! It really felt hard and harsh, and my initial thought was that I had to start over with an other 1. div team. After a few months unemployed I got the chance to take over Odense Boldklub, mainly because I had a reputation for signing U23 players, which was my luck this time. In the first season I ended in 8th place, before wining my first title the following season, doing The Double, twice! I also managed to reach the Champions League Group Stage two years in a row, taking my balance from +£800k two +£50m in two seasons. I was lucky that FC København had a few bad seasons, slipping in to take the title these two years in a row.

The only larger reputations team in Denmark was FCK, so I started to look abroad for new options. Borussia Mönchengladbach got available in the bottom half of the Bundesliga. Once again signing U23-players was my way in! I finished the first season 11th, after taking over at 15th place. From the start of the first full season, I found some great players for my team pretty cheap, one of them Florentin Robert from Le Havre. Not knowing I would meet him once again at a later stage. The following season I finish 3rd, way above expectations, before clinching the title already in my 3rd season! Borussia Mönchengladbachs first Bundesliga title since 1977 where fellow Dane Allan Simonsen helped them to the title :)

The season afterwards I was no match for RB Leipzig, but all of a sudden Julian Nagelsmann left for a job i Real Madrid, which became available after Zidane moving to Mancheser City. I jump in to take over Leipzig, mostly for the money and the reputation, ending up in second place in the first season after Borussia Dortmund who had a killer season! FC Bayern München became available after the season after finishing only 6th... I was considering the job, but what could I do? Win the Bundesliga again...? Hmm... Again Julian Nagelsmann had an impact on my further career. He swooped in to take over Bayern, and resigned as Real Madrid manager after 1½ season, for no reason I can find.

I applied for the Real Madrid job, with little hope of getting it. Somehow I was really lucky and convincing enough to get the job! In the statement from the club when I was signed it also sounded like they were a little surprised themself :DReal hadn't won the title more that twice in ten seasons, and Barcelona was really THE spanish team. Earlier in my career I had bad experiences with players over 30, declining very early, and half the squad in Madrid was 30+. I've learned that squad dynamics means a lot more in the newer games, than back when I played a lot more, so I tried to embrace the experienced players in the squad, including captain Nuno Mendes and superstar Mbappe :) From the start I begun to build for the future, really upgrading the U19 squad a lot, putting a lot of time in scouting and so on.

The first season Barcelona had a slump, and I slipped in to take my first title already! I also won the cup and reached the Champions League semifinal, getting knocked out to highest european reputation team PSG. The expectations in Real Madrid was to qualify for the Champions League, reach the cup final and the Champions League semifinal. Pretty reasonable with the squad I had.The season after Barcelona was back in form, taking it to the wire, where I lost the title in the last round, after losing to no other than rival Athletic Madrid... It was tough, but I reached the Champions League final too, the elusive CL-final I always have had problems reaching in my CM/FM-career.And I lost it.... 0-1... To Barcelona :'( So close, so heartbreaking...

The next season I got a flying start, and dominated the league from the first match, having my first U19 players coming through to the senior squad. One of them having a 2½ star rating coming in to the senior squad, ending up having a 4½ star rating at christmas, making 20+ goals in his first senior season. In Champions League I met AS Monaco in the first knock out round, losing the away game 2-3, ending up totally destroying them 10-0 in the second leg. In the next round I was to meet no other than Barcelona, for a rematch of the final from the season before. The game on Camp Nou ended 2-2, which was really satisfying as my away games in Europe had been shaky every season in Madrid. The home game finished 3-0!

I won the league two rounds before the end of the season, and after beating my former team from RB Leipzig in the Champions League I found myself in the Champions League final! The final was to be played in... Madrid :OThe week before the final, Manchester United, my life long IRL favorite team, sacked Ole Gunnar Solkjær after 16 years of service. Within a week I had the opportunity to make the two greatest goals of my save - Win the Champions League and to manage Manchester United.

The Champions League in the summer of 2035 was between my Real Madrid and Valencia. Mid first half I went down 0-1, and my passing wasn't really connecting. Even though I scored right before halftime when Ilaix Moriba scored an absolute beauty from 5 meters outside the area. The second half had a lot of chances either way, but just after the 90 min mark, one of my players goes down in the area... Penalty! Here we are, 90+ min, 1-1, Champions League final... The football world watches... 36 year old Kylian Mbappe steps up... And misses! Never felt so bad during a FM game as this...The games goes to extra time, but no goals, despite my team having the upper hand. And so we go to penalties. This time Mbappe scores, and my keeper, who wasn't that good overall, but had his best game in the last three seasons, in exactly this final. My captain misses, but my keeper stops two shots, and we are crowned champions of Europe!

Four weeks later I sign a new contract... A contract that brings me to The Theater of Dreams! I've done it. From the outskirts of Copenhagen, south through Germany to Spain, winning the title in the 2nd and 3rd highest reputation leagues. Winning the Champions League and now I'm ready to manage in the best league in the world, for my favorite team :)

On Steam I got the Childhood Dream achievement, for getting offered the job of my favorite team, which supprisingly few people has. I realissed that must be because most people pick their favorite team from the start, instead of using 15 seasons and 440 hours of gametime to get there ;)

Thanks for reading, here's a few screenshots. Hope you enjoyed this little story, and that you enjoy this fantastic game as much as I do :)

    2035 Laliga league table

Career Milestones (there is a bug saying I OB to 3rd consecutive titles before even winning the second title.....)

Career results :) (I've won five league titles, all while having a media prediction finish of 2nd or worse :)
