Posted: 13 Dec 2020 02:45 PM PST Let me sing you the song of my people... I've been meaning to share this story for a while, then forgetting to, but I lost the saved match when my Laptop died, so this felt like the best way to honour it. Let me tell you of the day Southampton won the Premier League with a goal that puts Aguero to shame. It's FM 18, picked up as I got back into football in the feverish haze of the World Cup. I'd been running the Saints for a while since arriving from NYCFC (don't ask,) dragging them from the relegation zone to an FA Cup win in my first season and securing the Europa League in my second, but they'd stalled a little after that. It was a decent squad, they'd already signed Lozano when I got there, and I had a solid base of Jorge Meré, Matthias Ginter, and Timo Horn, but it just didn't offer enough going forward. This season, however, I had built something beautiful. The joint creative force of Hirving Lozano on the left and Cengiz Ãœnder on the right had Andrea Pinamonti, the club's record signing, on track to score 40 league goals. Cedric and Luke Shaw were doing solid work as attacking full-backs around a solid, workhorse midfield of Oriol Romeu and Sander Berge, with Filipo Melegoni or James Ward-Prowse providing the flair. It should have been a shoo-in, but there was one obstacle: an utterly terrifying Diego Simeone-led Manchester United, with Kylian Mbappe and Mauro Icardi up front. They'd dealt us an absolute beating at Old Trafford, and it had taken us most of the rest of the season just to catch up. We were a point ahead going into the game at St Mary's, facing Man U in the penultimate game of the season. A win would secure us the League, a loss would put us behind a team that just wasn't dropping very many points, and only had to face an already relegated Brighton. We, meanwhile had a menacing fixture at St James' with a formidable Newcastle side led by Nino EspÃrito Santo, making the game effectively a must-win. We scored early, St Mary's erupting as Andrea Pinamonti nodded in a Cengiz Ãœnder corner with the inevitability of a perfectly executed magic trick. His goal was expected, but so too was the equaliser, as Mbappé slid home the emphatic conclusion as Man U broke rapidly up the pitch. The Red Devils were getting the upper hand, but Sander Berge fired a rocket into the top corner from just outside the box to put us in front going into half time. After that, Manchester redoubled their efforts, and it became all we could do to stay in the game. Manchester were surging down the flanks, and Mbappé was everywhere. But they just couldn't break us down. Timo Horn was playing out of his skin, Meré and Ginger were keeping them out of the box. It looked like we were really going to do it, and then it happened. Eric Dier (Trust me, I know,) picks up the ball, takes a few touches towards the D, and launches an absolute Missile. A collective sigh of "fucking fuck me..." rings out through St Mary's as the away stand bursts into triumphant jeers and Dier knee-slides towards the corner flag. Undaunted, I send the lads into all-out attack. A draw is not good enough today. A few shots go close, but it just doesn't look like happening. Man U are still looking scary, putting a few attacks in. With the clock running out, there's a very real chance of them winning this... Then Jorge Meré wins the ball back, just outside the box. There's applause, a few cheers, the stadium is on tenterhooks. He plays it on to Cedric, who progresses it up the pitch, and finds Berge. It gets messy in midfield, the ball changes hands about 4 times between both teams, but Oriol Romeu wins it back. He struggles forward, plays the through ball to a sprinting Luke Shaw. The former Man U player, undergoing a career revival at the club where he started his career, goes past Dalot. The world seems to stand still, as he whips in a low cross. Darting through the legs of the Man U defenders, driven by the left foot of Shaw, guided by fate, it arrives at the penalty spot at exactly the same time as the late run of Filipo Melegoni. "Crosses it low..." The electric voice of the commentator cries out to living rooms and bars across the planet, and a sharp intake of breath is shared by Manchester and Southampton fans alike. "MELEGONIIIIII!!!" The Italian hammers it past De Gea, and St Mary's is Krakatoa. The epicentre of an explosion of noise heard throughout the city. Beer is thrown from glasses, a half-eaten pie sails triumphantly through the air, the Italian sprints toward the Chapel Stand where he is embraced by the ecstatic fans. The long campaign ends with a single delirious moment in the gleaming Southampton sun. Seven days later, Andrea Pinamonti bangs four past Newcastle to pick up his 40th League Goal, and James Ward-Prowse lifts the Premier-League Trophy. [link] [comments]

Do teams in Brazil (or Argentina) have any kind of budget? Posted: 13 Dec 2020 08:45 PM PST So I've been playing the demo, and having a reasonable amount of fun, so I'll probably buy it, even if it seems like pacey gegen is still the way. Tho there's this annoying thing where if I win, but lose in XG, it kinda feels like a loss still. But anyway, in past games, I've done enough in Europe that the only fully fun thing is a journeyman save, and I never do those for my first playthrough. Or I guess trying to make an Irish team Champions League winners, but, tbh, I'm neither good enough or patient enough to accomplish that. Or doing stuff in the pregame editor perhaps. There's absolutely no way I'm going to learn how the MLS works, so South America is the only choice really. But unfortunately, they aren't in the demo, so I can't research. And it seems like a lot of teams have less money than in the past, so I can't load up older games. So, yeah, does anyone have experience in the region and know if there's enough teams with enough money to do stuff? Part of the problem with playing in Europe is the stratification, but I also don't want to be deepdiving for players on a free. Thanks for any replies! [link] [comments]
I feel like RBs/LBs have gotten the same treatment this year as AMs did last year Posted: 13 Dec 2020 06:26 PM PST It just seems like they're not as good. Mine consistently get below 6.4 ratings unless they pop up with an assist. It makes sense why this is though. In fm19 central attacking midfielders were extremely overpowered, so they essentially nerfed them in fm20. This, in turn, made wing play incredibly important, and even exploitable at times through overlaps and overloads on the wings. Now, in fm21, attacking midfielders are relatively balanced, but SI has had to nerf fullbacks and wingbacks. I've still only had the one save in fm21 though, so maybe it's just my tactics/players. Has anybody else noticed this? [link] [comments]
