Please use this thread as a place to ask questions that are specific to your save, such as:

    • "Why is my tactic not working?"

    • "What role should I play this player in?"

    • "I have £xxm to spend, who should I buy?"

If you are asking for tactical help/advice, please post an image of your formation and what insutructions/roles you have set.

As a rule of thumb, if you ask a question, answer a question. This is what keeps this thread alive and useful.

Also, please remember that the team suggestion thread can be found in the sidebar, so please use that and give your suggestions to people there too!

[UPDATED] How to use the Athletic Bilbao Basque-only rule with any club in any nation and league

fore-foreword: I posted several days ago about the Basque-only rule now being able to be emulated inside FM - however about 1/3 of the original post actually posted and displayed none of the results of the testing I had intended to post. Rats. I'll post this with the original post plus what was supposed to be written, and the extra bits of information other people have discovered from my first post.

foreword: I posted about potentially emulating the Basque rule two FM's ago in the sub - nobody had any idea how to emulate it - however this morning (two years later) u/xxxcalibre messaged me and completely blew me away with this. All credit goes to them for discovering it. TL;DR/guide at the bottom :)

You all believe the Basque rule is hardcoded into the game. You would be correct. There is no editor option or in game option to completely restrict signings by nationality.

However, against the knowledge of the vast majority of players, there is another option.

Let me introduce to you: Bermuda Hogges FC

    https://preview.redd.it/hx2nxavqdl361.png?width=1569&format=png&auto=webp&s=6132ebdda421d39210f0068a4a17aabd1a53e6d9

This is an semi professional club that played in the US regional leagues before it dissolved in 2013 after just 7 years of existence. As you can tell by the name, the club actually played on the island of Bermuda, existing in the US league system as an attempt to develop the overall level of play in Bermuda. As a result, they were restricted to only registering players from the island of Bermuda. Take a little peek into the bottom left corner of their club overview, you will spot a little transfer policy.

    Yes, that is hardcoded.

You may wonder what use that is considering not many people will plan to play with Bermuda (with all do respect to Bermudians). I was told by u/xxxcalibre that changing the nation the club is based in, the transfer policy will change with it - I was sceptical, so I tested this myself.

I loaded up the editor (don't mistake this with the ingame editor - the actual editor is a free tool that comes with your copy of FM and can be found under "tools" in your Steam library), and proceeded to find Bermuda Hogges under clubs.

    https://preview.redd.it/77k3f5y1el361.png?width=711&format=png&auto=webp&s=ce46e2dae2de4e20f138d806f7c508f8dafa42e9

I unticked "Extinct" - very very important - and changed all the details of the club so that they would now be an English team based out of St Ives. Furthermore, in order to actually make them playable, I loaded them into League Two at the expense of Cambridge (sorry cambridge fans). I also changed basic other bits of information, such as reputation, stadium, and club ownership. Saved the editor data and loaded it into a new game.

    https://preview.redd.it/gzaluu6lel361.png?width=1727&format=png&auto=webp&s=9f20c3b51729c199e742c33fb5946b5011164065

As you can see, it has correctly loaded as an English team with all of the details correct. However, if you look closely enough...

    https://preview.redd.it/fps11lbtel361.png?width=565&format=png&auto=webp&s=79cbc222806621880cd7a69b2b5e0300f6bae9be

To my utter bewilderment, the transfer policy has changed to only English players. This is MASSIVE.

In not only theory but actual practice, this now means you can change the details of Bermuda Hogges to any club you would like, in any country in the world, and be able to implement this policy to your own desires, something never before possible. One drawback is that you cannot implement the policy into an existing club, without deleting the existing club and merging every single tiny little detail from one club to another, and even then still it would not be the same club. However you can create your own club, with your own story, and have this policy implemented. This is huge.

A few little bits of information discovered by other users that you may need to keep in mind when doing this:

    - u/liamwpk discovered that if you forget to change the nation the club is based in,, you can still play as the team however it is unlikely players will sign for you. And even then, if you more importantly forget to change the stadium the club is based at, you will rack up enormous travel costs - unless you want a serious challenge in playing in an offshore league, do not forget to change this!

    - u/antoninartaud37 simulated a couple of seasons with their own created club to see the effect this would have on regens, however the club did not spawn any. This is because, as an extinct club, Bermuda Hogges has no youth funding, coaching, or recruitment. Do not forget to set this up in the editor, even at a basic level, before starting your game!

    - u/xxxcalibre, who discovered this originally, noted that this does not truly emulate the Basque rule in that it is nation-in-nation only, so you can only sign English players in England, Spanish players in Spain, and so on, rather than Basque players in Spain. However, I did wonder whether this was possible to emulate further by toying with the difference between the country the club plays in and the club the country is based in. This could affect travel costs in the club finances, so my **theorised** workaround is to set the country of the club to the country you want to sign players from (e.g. Ireland), and set the city of the club as a city in the country you want to play in (e.g. Glasgow, Scotland). I have yet to test this but could be a workaround.

    TL;DR/GUIDE:

    1. Load up the FM Editor under "Tools" in the Steam library
    2. Under clubs, search for "Bermuda Hogges"
    3. Untick "Extinct", change any details about the club you would like, move the club into an existing league (do not forget to remove an existing club to balance the numbers!)
    4. Ensure you have changed all the necessary details, including youth funding, recruitment, coaching, stadium, nation based in, etc
    5. Save the editor data, load up a new game of FM, ensuring the editor data is loaded into this new game
    6. Select your nation and club - if the nation you want to play in displays a red warning and is not selectable, read the error and make the necessary changes. This is usually due to not balancing the leagues your team and it's reserve team(s) play in - don't worry, go back to the editor and adjust as necessary
    7. Enjoy!

Again, a big thanks to u/xxxcalibre for discovering this. I'll edit this post with any further bits of information that may affect this method or open up new possibilities.
