This is the story of how my newgen son FM'd the team that released him after my departure as manager Posted: 17 Dec 2020 06:05 AM PST So many years ago on FM15 i started a save in Holland with SC Heerenveen. I had just gotten into the game and was struggling to achieve success. In all of my previous saves i had tried to do unrealistic things, and always ended up dissapointed. For this one, instead, i decided to take it slow and work towards achieving more reasonable goals. The first couple of years were quite difficult, and at times i got dangerously close to getting sacked. But as time went on things started to fall into place. We won a cup here and there, performed well in the league and managed to qualify for Europa/Champions League several times. My whole team was made up of South American regens, as i did not give much importance to young homegrown players. This changed maybe 9 or 10 years in when i got my in game son. I get this strange message, telling me that apparently, i have a son, and he just joined the club. This had never happened to me before. His stats were absolute trash and he played as a central defender. Very short guy too. But he was my son so i gave him a very generous long term contract and decided to play him regularly. God knows how many games i must've lost just because of him. Regardless, thanks to me he established himself into the team and started improving. 4 years later, i got tired of the save. I thought long and hard and decided that a change of scenery would be better than quitting all together. So i resigned at the end of the season and took a job in the italian serie a with Sampdoria. However i still continued to closly follow Heerenveen and my son. New manager comes in, and what does he do on his first week on the job? He releases my son alongside a couple other young players. Now, i had the opportunity to sign him up and to continue doing what i was doing up until that point but i decided to wait and see how his career would play out. He gets picked up very quickly by none other than newly promoted SC Cambuur, Herenveen's eternal rivals. The first two years after that were very uneventful. Son plays a game here and there, Heerenveen continues being competitive, Cambuur barely escapes the drop. Then, the craziest thing i had ever witnessed on FM up until that point happens. Heerenveen had an unbeaten start to the season, lucked out with some signings and on the last day of the season were sitting at the top of the table two points ahead of Ajax. Ajax had to play a couple of hours before Herenveen. They win convincingly and jump to the top. Now Herenveen needed at least a draw to win the league (on goal difference i think, not h2h.) They had to play SC Cambuur. SC Cambuur had been already relegated for the year. It was mathematically impossible for them to escape no matter the result against their rivals. Besides sitting at the bottom of the league, they had half of their squad injured. Absolutely no match for a team like Heerenveen, which had gone on to surprise the whole country. So what happened that night? My son, a product of SC Heerenveen, who had been released a week after i left the club, and who was now playing for SC Cambuur, their hated rivals goes on to score a goal on the 88th or 89th minute of the game. Their one and only shot in the whole game. He then proceedes to get sent off on a second yellow card in injury time but that's not the point. Heerenveen lose the game, by a single shot on target, and miss out on the title by a single point. I could not believe my eyes and i think i told everyone i met the next day about it, most of them people who had never played FM. That was the highlight of the whole 20 in game years of my career. After that evening my sons career did not improve in any way, shape of form and he was sold to another Dutch Second Division side. By the end of the save he was around 28 if I'm not mistaken and playing in the Belgian lower leagues. I have never had an in game son since then, and i cherish my memories from that save. One day, when i can afford to travel abroad the plan is to catch a Herenveen vs Cambuur game. I have no idea who I'm gonna be rooting for, but I'll go there with this FM save, and my imaginary son in mind. Thanks. [link] [comments]

Seeking penitence or permission, whichever applies. Posted: 17 Dec 2020 07:59 PM PST In the 14th year of a long-term FM20 save, I have used a Belgian lower league database to bring 4th-tier RUS Rebecquois to the Jupiler Pro League. In our third season in the top tier, we eked our way to a cup win, putting us into Europa, and managed to get into the group stages. Today, I was playing CSKA Moscow in the final game of the stage, winner advances. At halftime (down 0-1) I had to attend a (virtual, video, Zoom) meeting so I walked away intending to come back, but then had to clear the driveway (14" of snow!), eat dinner, etc. When I went back to finish the game, I realized my wife had unplugged my laptop so our son wouldn't trip on the cord, and the computer had shut down. I reloaded and replayed (plus the league game before as that was my last autosave), and won it 4-1, on to knockouts. Massive. I like to think its payback for the 1-0 90+5 minute losses when I had 70% possession, or the freak injuries that submarined seasons. Maybe I would have won the original game 4-1, no way to know. I considered savescumming the first half until I was down 1-0 but just didn't want to spend my whole night reloading and playing the first half of one game. My starting LB did pick up a 4 week training injury, so maybe that's my penance? Give me absolution, Community! Tell me I'm OK! [link] [comments]
