A thank you to the man who got me into Football Manager

When I was 7, my parents split up and when I was 8, my mum had started dating someone new. At the time, my mum was 30, dating a guy who was 21 (absolute cougar I know). He was an artist, but he was also immature, as you are at that age. The madman thought it'd be great to move in with three primary school kids.

He wasn't ready to raise kids nor did we expect him to. He was a moany bastard a lot of the time, but to be fair, he stayed with us for years before my mum ended it.

But what I always remember is his love for Football Manager. I first got a shot at FM 2005 and used to get a few words playing a week and he told me about all the legends of the game to buy.

I ended up buying every edition from 2008 to the present day. Last year, having not seen anything from him in years, his new partner posted of his passing on facebook, days after they got married in hospital. He died of cystic fibrosis.

I only met him a couple of times after he left the house, but he had that positive (or negative depending on how you look at it) influence on me in life and introduced me to the great game.

It's nearly a year since his passing. And with the latest release, he popped back into my head. Cheers John, hope you're signing wonder kids in the after life.
