More realistic approach/structure to Transfer Targets via the Director of Football

    Posted: 28 Aug 2020 06:40 PM PDT

I love playing FM but some weeks I have more time than others to actually play the game. So when it comes to transfers at the beginning of my save I was very hands on and sorted players for good prices and with a good STRUCTURE to the wages and add ons, clauses etc.

So a few seasons pass by and with it a month of real time and the transfer window opens, only this time I am trying to get through in game time slightly faster being slightly less hands on. I now decide to use my Director of Football for my Transfer Targets. I need a winger and a suitable, but not preferred, player has a £16m release clause for Clubs in the Champions League. This is almost all my transfer budget but I really need a winger and otherwise don't need to spend at all. His current wages are only 54k per week which is affordable and only slightly higher than average wage of my squad. The player is only 22 yo, has a lot of potential and is already valued at £8.5m

So with the release clause being a fixed figure and my head scout telling me his wage demands would be between 46.5-60k per week. I feel this is straight forward to expect my Director of Football to pull this off without too much trouble. I haven't really used him for the whole process of signing a player previously but it would save me time and I feel it is realistic to the process of real life as managers are almost never involved in Negotiations.

I am aware that the Director of Football likes to include - or is happy to accept - '5% sell on fee' to the player, I ALWAYS remove and exclude this from the negotiations but for the sake of time I thought I would overlook this.

Anyway a few in game days pass and I get an email asking me to confirm the signing of the player. The fee would be £16m as expected, 54k per week wages are fantastic, the inevitable 5% sell on fee etc. Everything looks in order, until I see that included in the contract there is a minimum fee release clause for clubs in the Champions League - for a fee of £16m. Now that makes absolutely no sense at all, whatsoever.

If I am willing to activate a release clause of £16m to buy the player, why on earth would we want to allow other teams to do the exact same to us. Not only that but the 5% sell on fee means that the player would receive almost £1m of the potential fee so we would be making a loss on a 22 year old player with plenty of potential that we should be looking to move on for easily a £30m profit after a few years.

There should be more detailed instructions that we give to the Director of Football ie. not just maximum transfer fee and wage but minimum acceptable release clause, maximum sell on fee etc. You catch my drift. I would simply have instructed him to negotiate no lower than £50m for a minimum release clause. If that is too high for the players agent and a deal can't be agreed upon then fair enough but don't come to me presenting this deal that you've orchestrated for us to lose money.

This is my first ever post in this sub and there may not be anyone reading this but if you are; my Director of Football is Matias Sammer, he has 16 Negotating. I can't get anyone better at Negotiating in because the game seems to be broken as the only staff members I can see that have 17, 18, 19 or 20 Negotiating are new-gen Data Analysts or Sports Scientists who have no requirement for Negotiating skills but there you go.

What should I do about my prospect?

    Posted: 28 Aug 2020 06:28 PM PDT

So, I have this recently intook regen striker (4* potential) and by the lack of good strikers on my senior and u23 teams I moved him up to my senior team. By the 2nd game I subbed him in the training report came indicating that he got better because of higher level game experience and his potential got up to 4.5*.

Now I'm wondering if I brute force him into my starting xi or if I should move him down to my u23 to get regular play time at an adequate level for him. In both cases I'm afraid to jeopardize his growth. What should I do?
