My FM20 Everton Heartbreak (A story/vent) Posted: 26 Jul 2020 01:36 PM PDT It's the eighth season into my Everton save. To say I've underperformed by FM standards would be an understatement, since I'd spent all these years floundering around from 5th to 10th place with no cup or European success to speak of. But for the 2027/2028 season I thought it was finally about to change... I've never been one of the more skilled FM players but quarantine has got me heavily engrossed into an FM20 Touch career as Everton and I've really become addicted these last two weeks. One thing that's been concerning my abilities a lot is seeing others taking non-league teams to the champions league (of which I had done so in past games) yet I can barely muster a Europa League qualification with this lot. Cup runs have always been lacking for us, having never made it past the quarter finals for any of the domestic or European tournaments. But this season's Carabao Cup was different, a win over Manchester United in the very first round gave me hope that maybe a cup victory was possible this year if I can keep up similar performances. It's also worth mentioning that this is Everton's final season at Goodison Park in my save and I was hoping to bring home one last trophy before moving out. After Man United was Derby, which was an easy win, then Barnsley another win. Southampton in the quarters were also no problem. The semi final pitted me up against a ridiculously good Chelsea side with players such as Haaland, Tolisso, Mbappe and a few others. Playing the away leg first, I was running out of belief that this would be our year or whatever but nevertheless the game resulted in a 1-1 draw and a solid defensive performance. This hope led me to believe that even a 0-0 would see me through to the final on away goals and I was feeling positive. A typical congested January fixture list left a few of my players injured and much more on low fitness, which didn't help since an FA Cup game against Newcastle was only three days before the home leg against Chelsea and less than three days after a league game. Wanting to focus all my resources on the second leg, I played a semi-rotated squad which lost 0-1 to a horrendous/hilarious error from my RB. We were out the FA Cup already but it's ok right? As long as things go well in the Carabao it'll all be ok... right? Second leg came about and a fully fit and fresh squad performed well defensively yet again. A Haaland header was overruled by VAR and after a tight, close game I was able to grind out an ugly 0-0 draw, which for a few seconds I thought would get me through on away goals. I should've read the rules... away goals no longer counted in the Carabao and any drawn ties would go straight to penalties. Any positivity I once had turned to panic as soon as I see the penalty selection screen... The shootout begins and I'm up first with local boy Ross Barkley, a former Chelsea player who I'd signed from Man United on a free. He hits the post and Chelsea score... next up is on-loan regen Peter Phillips, who skies it... Chelsea score... top-scorer Moise Kean steps up and scores for me. Chelsea's next taker has their shot saved by regen keeper Ahmet Demirel in goal which gives me some faint hope. Rafa Guerreiro, my second choice left back (I severely lack good penalty takers) is next up... it's saved and it's all over, Chelsea are in the final... I've had FM heartbreaks before but none have got to me as much as this one has. I know it may seem shitty to most but this was my best chance for a cup final in all my time with this save so far and since I've bottled the FA Cup and our second half season form is usually complete shite I can't help but feel this season's over for us already and so is my job here soon probably... It's the hope that kills you but fuck I just would've liked a cup before I left Goodison I guess but what can ya do. Sorry for this long post, I just feel like I've had to vent this all out to get over it. I'm sure I'll get back on this save by tomorrow and pray that I keep my job because I swear my board just never expects anything from me or this team so I'm clinging on to that for now. Wishing players Happy Birthday Posted: 26 Jul 2020 01:36 AM PDT A feature I wish was in the game: I know most of my regens birthdays pretty well, and I'd like the opportunity to just wish them Happy Birthday. It'd go like this: Me: Hey Argentinian 5star, I hope you have a great 19th birthday. Federico Salazar: I think we have different ideas about what a great birthday is. Me: Well I think this meeting has run its course, I'll talk to you later. Salazar: I'm sure you'll want me again for something else. (Complaining to teammates): Feels his manager has treated him unfairly [link] [comments]

Posted: 26 Jul 2020 09:40 AM PDT I just picked up this year's iteration during the sale a few weeks ago and I've put tons of hours into my yearly Leverkusen save. During the first season my midfield was packed with competent footballers ready to see the pitch, and last year Charles Aranguiz had been my wonder man so I had stuck with him and Palacios as my young guy in a 2 CM setup. Starting the season, things were looking okay, Aranguiz hadn't been preforming as he had in previous iterations, Palacios spent a lot of time in the medical center, and to top it off, some 22 year old 3 star bench warmer had been nagging me about wanting to get first team playing time when depth just kept me from giving it to him. That man was Nadiem Amiri. Come mid-season transfer window, the nagging kept getting worse from Nadiem, and I honestly just wanted him gone. Before the window even officially opened I had him transfer listed for well below his value, which upset him greatly. He wasn't seeing much playing time so I was confused as to why he cared at all, but either way, no one called up for him. I had been disappointed because I now have an upset man in the locker room and no where to put him. Honestly, I felt bad for the way I treated him considering his only request was to get first team soccer, and considering my struggles with keeping a healthy squad, it shouldn't have been hard for me to do that. As soon as the second half of the season came up, palacios got his monthly week long injury that also made room for Amiri to break into the first team. So I play him in a few more matches in the second half, and he does well, but nothing extraordinary. He gets a few goals in here and there to keep himself in the lineup but he ends up being overshadowed by the enormous amount of young talent in Bayer. He ended the season with 19 appearances, 6 goals, an assist and a 7.06 rating. Come season 2, Aranguiz gets a massive injury in the preseason that sees him sidelined to the next year. I was pissed... at first. Part of me suspected Amiri may have been apart of the hard tackle in practice that sidelined his older counterpart, but I begrudgingly put him in Aranguiz's place next to palacios to start the season. What the FM gods didnt tell me was that the Amiri that took Aranguiz's place was a different animal to the Amiri I had started my save with. In his first 8 appearances he had racked up 4 assists and a 2 goals with a 7.5 rating. I had thought he had a great opener, but was destined for a decline. I was wrong. The more games he played, the more assists he got, netting 12 by the end of the first half of the season. I was amazed. He had already broken the record of assists by a single player for me from the previous season, so when Aranguiz came back I kept him on the bench. I had figured the decline was going to come sooner than later from Amiri, but I was wanting to see it happen before I changed my plans. It never happened. Ending the season, Amiri had 22 assists and 11 goals with a player rating of 8.01. He had been responsible for atleast 1 goal in all but 6 league games. I was honestly blown away by this player that I couldn't get a buyer for last season. It had gotten to the point where I wanted to see this man succeed more than I wanted to for my team. The next season had an emotional beginning for me. I knew buyers would be calling for Amiri's price tag and I felt that I had owed him for placing him on the list in that first season. He only ever wanted first team football and I punished him for it, now when he got the chance to make a move to a destination he desired, I felt I had to oblige. I got big offers from big clubs in England, but my precious Nadiem only had one place in mind. Schalke 04. They threw up a 30 million request in the beginning of the window, which I thought massively undervalued him, but due to my boy's desires, I accepted it. As he left, I felt sad that a club that was probably going to destroy his potential had taken him, but at the same time I was happy to finally have done right by him. My journey with Nadiem was over, but for him, it had only just begun. The first season with schalke he regressed in assists by only getting 20, but he made up for it in goals and netted 17. His second season more of the same with 21 assists and 15 goals. His third he broke his record he had with me with a disgusting 28 assist season and 14 goals. I'm entering my fourth season without him and I find myself still checking his stats more than I do my own players. Schalke is a top flight Bundesliga club and I'm hoping to sell some more players to them to help them truly compete in the champions league. I have already made the decision that I would not end this save til I am able to get him his championship, whether it be at Bayer, or Schalke. This is the end of my ode to my favorite FM player of all time, Amiri, I miss you still. TLDR: Nadiem Amiri is a god among men and should be bought at any chance you get. [link] [comments]
