A recap of my glory hunter save Posted: 14 Jul 2020 05:18 PM PDT Had a really fun time with this challenge, and thought it would be fun to post my results in case anyone was interested. The goal of the challenge is to win the five big European leagues and cups, along with the champions league, europa league, European championships and the World Cup. I started with Dortmund because I had never managed in Germany before and, well, I didn't wanna be Bayern. Year 1: Was relatively passive in the transfer market. Did not come anywhere close to contending for the Bundesliga after a horrible start. Even the DFB Pokal was a disaster thanks to a third-round exit against Augsburg. Champions league was a different story — won it against Liverpool thanks to a Haaland goal in the 118th minute. Not a bad start. Trophies: Champions League, German Supercup Year 2: Used the money saved from the previous year to make a bunch of big signings. Won the Bundesliga easily with 12 points to spare. Infuriatingly lost to in extra time to Hertha Berlin, who had been relegated the season before, in the cup quarterfinals, which meant I needed another year in Germany. (Also dipped into international managing with Norway at this point because it was the only thing available.) Trophies: Bundesliga, Club World Championship Year 3: I was probably more annoyed than I should have been about the Hertha Berlin situation and was ready to leave. Hit the jackpot with the Barcelona job opening, and got it. I had a really, really hard time in the first year trying to get something out of an aging Messi and Suarez, even after spending the warchest of over 200 million I was given. Felt wrong to unload them, maybe I should have relegated them to the bench, but I didn't do that either. Finished second in La Liga, lost to Athletic Club in the Copa del Rey final. Surprised I was allowed to stay in the job afterward. Left the Noway job for the Scotland job after the World Cup, as it was the only international job I could get. Trophies: None. Year 4: Got things sorted out and won La Liga by 13 points, losing just once all season, with a goal difference of +110. But somehow managed to get slapped 4-1 in the cup against Athletic Club, again, which meant another season in Spain. Trophies: La Liga, Spanish Super Cup. Year 5: Won La Liga again, although the performance was not quite so dominant. Took care of business in the cup, finally, after beating Real 4-1 in the final. Spain is the first nation totally checked off the list. Internationally, I was able to take Scotland to the quarterfinals of the European Championships, which was a pleasant surprise, though it would never really be possible to win it with them. Hopped into the England job after the tournament. Trophies: La Liga, Copa Del Rey, Spanish Super Cup. Year 6: Missed out on every single suitable job I applied for and was basically forced to take a gap year. Trophies: None. Year 7: Finally got a suitable job offer and ended up at Tottenham. They needed a massive, massive overhaul. I probably sold 20-something players before we played a game. The beginning of the season was tough, but we went unbeaten in the league from October through April, unbelievably. A point ahead of City heading into May before dropping points to Leicester and Sheffield United. Ugh. Finished second. Won the FA Cup, though, which was nice because it meant I wouldn't have to spend a whole season focused only on a cup run. Also won the Euro Cup 2 for good measure. Internationally, the World Cup was a disaster. Went out to 10-man Denmark in the second knockout round. Got sacked, obviously. Hopped into the France job. Trophies: Euro Cup 2, FA Cup. Year 8: Again found myself in a race with City but came out on the other side of it this team, winning the league by 3 points. Had a really bad Champions League group stage which saw me drop into the Europa League, and I went on to check that off the list as well. Didn't feel super great about that one, wanted to win it from the group stages — and, frankly, wanted something else to focus on outside of the cup upon returning to Germany. Oh well. England is checked off the list. Trophies: Premier League, Europa League Year 9: The PSG job came open. Wow. This gave me an idea. Because I had the funds to do so and registration wouldn't be an issue, I brought all the best French players to PSG and treated it like a year--long preseason for the Euros the following summer, allowing me to get to know the players so they would be more receptive to shouts and team talks, and also allowing them to develop partnerships. The games themselves were ridiculously easy. Won the cup and the league without really breaking a sweat. So, that leaves the European Championships, which will get its own paragraph here because I make the rules. It was a cake walk. Conceded once the whole time. Blasted Italy 5-1 in the final. Now, some of this could have been due to the fact that France probably had the best players at the tournament, but I do think I was helped by my preseason camp strategy, too, based on how difficult international competition has seemed to be for everyone else doing this challenge. Trophies: European Championships, Ligue 1, French Cup, Trophee des Champions, European Super Cup. Year 10: Left PSG for Bayern to cross Germany of the list. Again, the trend of very difficult first years with teams continued, except, luckily for me, the Bundesliga had a horrible season, and we won the title with 66 points. Lost to Leipzig in the semifinals of the cup, though. Trophies: German Supercup, Bundesliga Year 11: Ran right through the Bundesliga and finally was able to take care of the German cup. Germany is off the list, finally. Had the pleasure of drawing Brazil in the second round of the World Cup with France. With no season-long training cap, that did not go very well. Got sacked, signed on with Spain. Trophies: Bundesliga, DFB Pokal, German Supercup. Year 12: Made it through about half of the season without a suitable opening in Italy, which at this point was the only place left to go. The Inter job finally came open in January, and I took it. We won the Coppa Italia with a team that really just was not very good, so that was a nice bonus. Made a late run at the league but came up short. Trophies: Coppa Italia Year 13: Lost the Serie A on goal difference by 3 goals to Milan — but it gets worse. My computer had died after losing to Milan 1-0 during the season, so when it restarted I had to re-do the match. I started all my backups to ensure I got the same result as the first time and lost 4-0 this time, thinking it wouldn't matter. Well....it did. Oh well. Had a disastrous Euro effort with Spain. Signed with Brazil after being sacked. Trophies: Europa League Year 14: Held the lead by one point over Lazio heading into the final day and drew with Brescia to lose the league. Ugh. Trophies: None. Year 15: Finally won the Serie A by 3 points after Lazio lost on the final day. Italy completed, leaving just the World Cup to complete the challenge. With Brazil, I went to extra time on four different occasions along the way, but got it done. Beat Belgium in the final, 2-1. Challenge completed! This turned into a bit of a novel, which wasn't intended, but I enjoyed writing it. Thanks for making it this far if you read along! Trophies: Serie A, World Cup [link] [comments] | ||

Posted: 14 Jul 2020 04:43 PM PDT I have this player from my youth academy who broke into first team at 16 years old and took the season by storm. Scored 9 goals and 6 assists in his very first year. As the season ended, the Vultures PSG and Liverpool came and asked for his price. They are ready to offer 11 mil. How much can I stretch the asking money for? The player still has 1 year left on his contract so I can reject all the clubs for now and keep him. Need help in this scenario. [link] [comments] |
