Please use this thread as a place to ask questions that are specific to your save, such as:

    • "Why is my tactic not working?"

    • "What role should I play this player in?"

    • "I have £xxm to spend, who should I buy?"

If you are asking for tactical help/advice, please post an image of your formation and what insutructions/roles you have set.

As a rule of thumb, if you ask a question, answer a question. This is what keeps this thread alive and useful.

Cove Rangers Youth Development Season 16 - Ending 112 Years of Hurt

    Season Goals

    Split the old firm

Win a trophy - Oh boy

This year i set an ambitious goal of splitting the old firm and qualifying for European Champions League. It was a season of highs and lows.

    National Cups

I started in the league cup with a 1-0 win against Hamilton, going on to beat Aberdeen and then the mighty Celtic in the semis to set up a guarenteed cup win against Motherwell. They were sixth and I was 1st by a point, going strongly in the league beyond expectations. What proceeded was the most disappointing moment in my FM history, I almost rage quit but held strong to the values of this save. I twice blew a lead to lose 3-2 in extra time. I was raging, actually put me in a bad mood the rest of the morning. Id won 65% of my games at that point in the season, it felt like a show in, but alas my team are serial final losers at the moment. 4 cup finals in 4 season and lost them all.

In the Scottish cup I did what I couldnt in beating Motherwell 2-0 at home in round 4. I then won a 5th round replay against Hibernian before falling out in the QFs to Celtic in another replay.

Ultimately a disappointing cup season mostly due to the poor League Cup final result.

    Europa Cup

I qualified directly for the group stages due to coming 3rd last seaons, which thankfully allowed for a quieter early season in terms of volume of games. I was drawn with Man Utd, CSKA Sofia and CSKA Moscow. I qualified for the knock outs after 4 games, beating CSKA Sofia and Moscow Twice. I lost both my games to Man UTd and played for a draw in my final game with a second string squad (to save legs).

I was then drawn against Real San Sebastian and won 4-4 on away goals. It was a tough fixture and I was fortunate. I then lost to Mainz 05 in the next round 5-4, It was closer than reality as they dominated and only my awesome keeper kept me in it, I scored two goals in final 20 to make it a nervy finish but could quite find that winning goal.

Another knock out at this stage again. Its where the really hard teams seem to all get to and in the end my inexperienced defence and poor CMs cant dictate the game as much.

    Premiership

I had an awesome start to the league campaign and wasnt far from Hibs through the first 16 games or so. Celtic and Rangers were having a bad start and were at one point 10 points behind me. My scheduling wasnt great and I had three games in hand through most of the season. It did mean my first half of season up to December was great and I could use the same team most weaks due to a good rest time between games. Out of the first 4 months I won 9/13 games and finally leap frogged Hibs where I stayed 1st for 10 weeks.

I continued decent for through december and won 4/7. I needed the break big time now as my tiny squad was getting tired now that Europa Cup was in full swing aswell.

After the break in January I got the ground running again winning all games that month. King and Irvine were on fire, with king already equalling last season league goals by February. Irvine was the assist king. Campbell having a quiet season but still scoring double digits by then. By February first I had been 1st position for ten weeks and was ready to fire the starting gun on the biggest league throw away since Liverpool's 18' season. I went on a miserable run through feb, march and april winning 3 games out of 11. Those three games in hand I had, plus the Europa Cup plus the scottish cup plus injuries plus suspensions meant I just couldnt field a decent team most weeks. I was losing games to lower half teams and I could see my league championship chance slipping away as both the old firm picked up form.

Here's what i had to deal with, I had a re-arranged game during the international break! I had 12 players to choose from, and none of my good ones to play Celtic. I had a right back and DM in CB

In march I got a decent midfielder and striker to help but it wasnt really enough. I blew a 5 point lead plus 3 games in hand to end up 1 point behind Celtic come the beginning of the split

    here comes the glorious failure

    Post Split

Great, I was drawn with CEltic away first game which I narrowly lost 0-1 to leave me 4 points adrift with 12 points to play. I really needed to win the rest of my games. I narrowly beat Motherwell with Celtic beating Hibernian to maintain the lead. Next i drew against Killie after being 3-0 down but luckily Celtic Lost to Motherwell. Gap at 3 points. Next I had Rangers away, I knew it was now or nothing and I needed Celtic to slip up again. They did and I beat Rangers 3-0 to lose it a one point title race going into the last game. Cove vs Hibs, Rangers vs Celtic. I knew I had a chance

one game to seal history or another miserable season

I also qualify with a game to spare

Into the last 45 minutes and a king penalty puts me above Celtic due to a Rangers goal. I just needed to win and Celtic to draw or lose. A Campbell penalty in the second half seals my win and as the minutes count down toward full time I see that Celtic arent coming back and I win Cove Rangers first Championship in 112 years. Amazing considering I thought getting second was an outside chance. It came down to the old firms poor start to the season and my ability to get the most from the star players during the split. King amazingly scored 42 goals in all competitions.

    AYE!

I qualify now automatically for the Champions League group stages. this is the next level of madness where I get found out. I win both manger of the year awards again, obviously and become an Icon at the club now. One step below true Legend status. I also fulfill some promises I made to players who I promised to qualify for the CL.

clean sheet record for Lyon at 17 years old

another record, he is now a well known player throughout Europe at 22 and playing in Cove, lol

Iain Irvine wins clubs player of the year

6 first team players with above 7.0 ratings and my CB did very well considering their age. 89 goals and 36 assist for my front three. Scott Angus at LB gets 16 assists, amazing.

    New assist record

Irvine wins player's players of the year and the other three award. Truly great season and a deserved Scotland call up.

My front three win the top three goalscorer positions, what was everyone else doing?

    Youth Intake

My only 4 star intake was this striker, looks very decent and will be coming off the bench next season

    good pace and finishing

Got a new ballwinning midfielder and he will replace Burnett. May come good, lets see

was only 3.5 star when he signed.

Next season I obviously need to retain the championship, high bar has been set, Other than that, a couple of wins in CL and getting third in the group would be a success. Scotland qualified for the world cup and 4 of my players have been called up for the Scotland squad. Irvine, Campbell, Tait and King. Good luck fellas.
