Football Manager - I used a picture of Brad Pitt to generate this goofy dude. Starting up the game and seeing his silly face never fails to bring a smile to me face even though constantly battling relegation with King's Lynn Town.

An Emotional Goodbye or: How I Learned to Love Again

    Posted: 14 May 2020 12:25 PM PDT

Ive been playing fm for about 5 or so years and its always been really fun, but i havent always been a typical hardcore player. I mostly played with Man United who i support in real life (you know how it goes, couple of seasons, win everything, lose interest, stop playing.

In FM19 after winning the lot with United i decided to resign and challenge myself morein the same save. For the last 8 or so months ive been managing Frankfurt, a mid table side in Germany, slowly building a team of regens to take on the world.

We slowly worked up to the Europa League, then the Champions League, won 5 Bundesliga titles out of the last 6, 3 cups and the last two in a row. But the Champions league was the holy grail.

In 2033 we had our best run in the Champions League since the 1960, making it all the way to the final and losing in extra time to Barcelona. That was a real heartbreaker.

I recently saw FM20 on sale for £20 and decided to get it, but not play it until id finished my mission. This season (2035/36), a 95th minute winner got us past Spurs, a 3-0 home win over United got us into the final, and a 93rd minute winner vs City sealed a historic treble and Frankfurts first champions league.

Its been a wild ride with them over 10 years, but its the most fulfilled ive felt on this game in a long time and just wanted to share my journey. Hopefully, more to come from FM20!

2025 was a glorious year for Zak Hale. This kid is my favourite regen I have found in my game. Him, Haaland and Havertz link up beautifully together. I like to imagine the papers with some sort of HaHaHa reference when they destroy teams

    Simulated Alternative World Cup

    Simulated Alternative World Cup

After 40+ hours of swearing at the FM editor and countless technical difficulties, I can finally present the fully simulated Alternative World Cup.

For those that haven't seen, u/Mel0n_Collie came up with this idea with a series of posts on r/soccer, where he created a hypothetical world cup where each nation has the same population. It's best if you go check out his in-depth review of each team by group here: Group A, Group B, Group C, Group D, Group E, Group F, Group G, Group H

Now here's the part you've all been waiting for.

    The Group Stage:

    The Knockout Stage:

So, there were definitely a few surprises, mainly East China's run to the semifinal, and the elephant in the room, Russia & Southern Borders winning it all after an improbable run defeating arguably the three best teams in the tournament.

For some extra detail, I grabbed screenshots of all awards, records, and match days, which can be found in the following imgur albums:

Thanks again to u/Mel0n_Collie for doing all the research and creating this awesome idea. As for me, I have vowed to never touch the FM editor again after all the pain it has caused me through its unintuitive UI -- I don't blame SI considering only a small portion of users ever install it, but it has given me immense respect for the creators who create custom databases every year for our enjoyment.

Note: this is not an airtight simulation, and while I did make sure to be as accurate as possible, the lower league players may not be modeled perfectly, which can bring some unusual results.

If you want to try this yourself, PM me and I'll send you the database files
