I'm a broken man right now. 42 games I lead the Championship against all odds. Debts spiralling. No money for transfers. 11 points clear at Christmas. We fought through the January wobble. Beat Leeds, our closest challengers in February, but in the distance I could see Brentford. Fucking Brentford.

We capitulated in March. I knew it'd be foolish to change the magic formula too much. But in hindsight maybe I should've. A loss to Birmingham, their first victory in 19 GAMES, was a real low point. The gap drew shorter every week. April came. Form picked up, but Brentford were 2 points behind.

Promotion was wrapped up mid month. But there was no celebration. I wanted the title. I needed that title. I'd worked so hard. With 2 games to go, we beat Stoke on a cold Friday night. The gap became 5. But Brentford dispatched Huddersfield on the Saturday.

The final day, at home to 4th placed Middlesbrough. Brentford, at home to already relegated Derby County. We lead after 10 minutes, and miraculously so did Derby. Brentford instantly equalised. Then Ravel Morrison, on loan from Sheffield United, equalised for Middlesbrough. We were still top. Until Kia Jan-Hoever blasted Boro infront. Brentford took the lead against Derby, and our fate was sealed. The title was gone. We'd absolutely bottled it.

This game is beautiful, a masterpiece. But it has fully broken me tonight. 😭
