When Italian Eccellenza (5th tier) becomes a literal Retirement Home

Started in Level 7 (Prima Categoria) and won back-to-back promotions (courtesy of FM not really handling well the gap between low-level pros and utterly inept amatuers).

Then halfway through my season in "Promozione" I found out some Retiring players were out of contract AND incredibly enough willing to join our lowly amateur side!

Last year I signed Carlos Sánchez (former Aston Villa) and Fabián Orellana (alongside a handful of former Serie A youth prospect).
Then during the summer Roque Santa Cruz was available, only til his retirement in December. 8 goals and 3 assists and 2 PoM awards in 12 games were a great payoff, so I decided to dig deeper...

Here's how my team was shaping up during the Jan transfer window!

I ended up signing Badstuber, but didn't offer Dzemaili or Rooney (Acc/Pac 6) a contract. Zabaleta is back in his original RB position, replaced by former Juventus profile(s) Coccolo or Giandonato. (by themselves awesome signings for that level, before I found out we can actually lure former internationals into the depths of LL football).

So now we'll win promotion (undefeated and on course for a Perfect Season) with an average age of 34 and 300+ international caps... FOR FREE!

Unfortunately the subpar pace of all those oldboys is kind of a liability, but we're still scoring 3+ per game.

I'm anticipating the next batch of retiring players having their last hooray against a bunch of Italian amateurs in front of 3-400 fans.

Cover Rangers Youth Development Season 10

    Season Goals

Be more comfortable than last year

    Play more attacking football

My aims this year are to be comfortable, by comfortable I mean, not booting around the bottom of the table all season, always a couple of wins ahead of playoffs. Anything 10th or above would be good. My squad is starting to develop. I have a quality GK, CB, LW and FW who are essential to anything good this year. Plan not sell anyone unless a quality replacement comes in March.

    First Half of Season

I win 3/4 league cup games which isnt enough to qualify for the next round, unfortunate. My league campaign gets off well, winning 3, drawing 3 and losing 6 of my first round of games. Well is all relative at tiny Cove Rangers. My stadium is seriously holding me back now, as only 2000 seats gives me almost zero income and running losses of 150k per month. I basically break even every year with a 11th place finish.

I reverted back to my high press, as my defense is a bit better and can hopefully still concede the same barrel load of goals a season but meaning I can score more and hopefully win more. Thats the logic and it seems to pay off with Burt having 10 goals by Christmas.

My starting 11 at the moment is

    https://preview.redd.it/kh05q30jzvo41.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=6b315f3d786387038a43bdf33a053e21b2b576cc

I have a pretty poor december and a couple of team meetings are required as moral takes a hit and players start getting pissed off. Im sitting pretty in tenth by January and form picks up through february. Ive got a bit of a lead on Hamilton in 11th and I move up into 9th ahead of Dundee United by the time its the split in the league. Livingstone are having a bit of a St Johnstone this season and are definetely going down.

    Second Half

The youth recruitment is good but in positions im already strong in, I get a very good CF who I decide to put in instead of Burt (14 goals by this point) but the rest are pretty gash. I dont know if its a fault in the game but every year I get a decent LB but have never had a good RB come through. Now have 5/6 decent youth LB but only a 2.5 star potential RB who starts in my first team. oh well.

    meh

seems alright, become my back up LB

very decent, straight in the line up, good finishing and great pace. not a poacher! great personality

I stick Burt on the right wing and hopefully he picks up the new position, he is too good to have on the bench and could be worth alot of money in the future. King has to start though, too much potential there. Now I have two good strikers. King scores 3 for the season and Burt another 2.

I end up swapping positions with Dundee United throughout the split games but leap frog them with a 4-1 victory over Livingstone in the last game of the season. 9th is amazing considering my budget, team strength and dodgy defense.

-46 goal difference is +9 better than last year, think ive actually let in more goals but ive scored so much more

for a start I have two players with 28 goals between them, last year my top scorer had 6 goals. I still cant believe I survived last year. Discipline is still mental, 88 yellows and 8 reds which is a new record for the division (proud).

PLayer of the seaon - James Burt - 17 Goals

Young Player of the Season - James Burt

Roy Keane Award - Mair and Flett both got red carded twice and 7 yellows each

Some good news at the end of the season, new stadium will be ready for the beginning of next year with a 12.5k capacity which will be great for bringing in much needed cash, extra bonus is the council is paying the 15 Million required and I am renting it off them (anyone who know Aberdeen City Council in real life knows this would never happen).

Overall a great season, cups went as usual but I got to the quarter final of the Scottish Cup. Next season Ill be aiming for a top 6 finish which would require another 15 or so point which is doable considering I increased my points total this year by 16 points. New striker may do the trick. ive only got 200k in the bank because I upgraded my facilities again. Biggest cost is youth development, which cost 2M last year. Id love to win a cup, its been a while.

    FM20 Touch - Beginner Questions

    Posted: 25 Mar 2020 08:54 PM PDT

    Hey! I have a couple of questions I'm really hoping you guys can help clarify;

    1. I can add two additional countries to a new save, should I add two? And what two? What are the benefits of adding additional countries?
    2. When I search for staff, I find staff that is 4-5 stars compared to my 2-3 stat staff, but when I compare stats my staff have better numbers.
    3. The appearance fees and things like that, when are these paid out?

Is there anything else I should know?!

    Youth Intake Preview FM20

    Posted: 25 Mar 2020 01:09 PM PDT

With the new youth intake preview that pops up a few months before your intake is there a list of what each bullet point roughly means?

For example, "we have a forward who could be considered a fine prospect", is it known that this will mean the forward will have a certain PA range and is there a list of all the bullet points and what they translate to?
