Weekly Help Thread - Ask your help requests here | Week Commencing 02/02/2020

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 01:19 AM PST

Please use this thread as a place to ask questions that are specific to your save, such as:

    • "Why is my tactic not working?"

    • "What role should I play this player in?"

    • "I have £xxm to spend, who should I buy?"

If you are asking for tactical help/advice, please post an image of your formation and what insutructions/roles you have set.

As a rule of thumb, if you ask a question, answer a question. This is what keeps this thread alive and useful.

Meta - not everything in the game that goes against you is a bug

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 01:16 PM PST

Everything that's posted seems to have the phrase 'is this a bug?' In the title and more often than not there's a perfectly reasonable explanation such as not selecting a filter or tactical incompetence (selecting the counter TI does not make a tactic a counter attacking tactic by default).

Is it at all possible we can stop assuming were all so amazing that any problem is a bug and not our own error ?

I am fully aware the game isn't perfect (what game is) but it shouldn't be the first thing we jump to when something doesn't go our way/ as we expect it.

Have I managed to collect all of the textbook FM traits on my journeyman save?

Doctor Benny at the top of the league with an 8 point buffer over second place and only 3 matches remaining completely bottles it.

Of course mate, I can give you my 5 star player for a quarter of its price.

Managed to unlock the secret to scoring one on ones and headers. Sadly it only lasted one season.

Rayan Cherki has the 'very ambitious' personality. He is so ambitious, in fact, that the champion's league final doesn't even register on his scale. Plays like a god though, even if he is 'overly relaxed' about every game ever.

What is your ultimate "petty" story?

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 08:04 PM PST

So in my save, I took Mainz to a dream season of finishing 2nd behind Leipzig (Bayern and Dortmund absolutely crumbled and both finished outside the top 4).

I then jumped to Leverkusen and finally brought them Bundesliga glory (and a CL Semi Final). Again, Bayern and Dortmund finished out the top 4. My old Mainz, Leipzig and a madness Eintracht Frankfurt making up the top 4.

Then I left Germany. Nagelsmann took my Leverkusen over, and Mancini took Mainz. They both then absolutely shit the bed, finishing midtable together, as Bayern returned to dominance. Any time they would come up in press stories, I would absolutely attack the absolute fuck out of both of them. I would go out of my way to type in that Mancini was "a barberless fraud" and Nagelsmann was a "Pretzel stand operator without the pretzals", and the Press would lap up my hatred. The year 2028 turns up, and I've returned to Germany to fix Dortmund, and almost every week is now me shitting on every Bundesliga manager alive (except Adi Hutter. Me and him are tight as fuck). I am halfway into the season and second on GD to Bayern. Nagelsmann and Mancini were sacked within 72 hours of each other, and my old club Leverkusen just offered me an interview (that I turned down). I also activated a release clause I agreed to of Zeke Palacios, whom I had signed for Leverkusen.

So my vengeance on the men who can't tie my shoes is complete. What's your story of going out of your way to just shit all over an in game AI manager?

Managerial Debut on my first FM Game...

When did you start finding FM fun?

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 08:40 AM PST

Personally for me when I started playing FM, I had no idea what I was doing. I was making tactics with 20+ instructions exclusively in the 4231 formation, I would only sign wonderkid's I read on internet lists, I couldn't win games and I'd eventually just quit and start a new save. I was terrible at the game.

I think I started finding FM fun when I started scouting players like a real manager would, finding players that would fit a system I wanted to play and not signing every cheap wonderkid available (at the start of the save of course). Also creating fun tactics with asymmetric formations and all out attacking formations mad the game very fun.

What was the turning point for everyone else? (If you had one)

Picked up Notts County in the relegation zone of the VNL. Two seasons & two titles and one FA Trophy later - we're in league one.
