Anyone else out here still playing FM14 (or earlier) because they feel sentimental for a few saves? I was playing around with a few old teams and started a new game ... Adnan Januzaj is one of the top prospects ... Wow I feel so old.

160 hours in FM and I just experienced my first penalty shootout...

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 10:03 AM PST

...it was one of the most tense experiences of my gaming life. Right up there with visiting Ravenholm in Half Life. I watch all my games in comprehensive view too, which made it all the more stressful.

As you can guess, I'm a relative newcomer to Football Manager. I got FM19 last year during the summer sale, and only started playing it last winter. I decided to do the journeyman challenge for my first playthrough as it seemed 'fun'.

It's been an incredible, challenging, frustrating and satisfying experience, punctuated by today's penalty shootout in the FA Trophy semi-final. My plucky Vanarama South side Gosport did me proud. We should have won the game on aggregate, but as in life, surprises can happen and Welling put up a fight leading to the shootout.

I'm still learning this game, sometimes through trial and error, sometimes spamming questions in the subreddit's help thread, but moments like this remind me that no matter how confused and frustrating this game can get, it can provide you with feelings of accomplishment rarely rivalled by other games.

I've spent two seasons with this team, honing them, moulding them into a fighting unit, disciplining them, going to family barbecues, helping some of my boys with their financial troubles because they were too ashamed to ask their wives, helping their wives pay for abortions beca-, look you get the point, we were a team.

We're through to the final now. It doesn't matter if we don't win, nobody expected us to even pass the first round, we proved them all wrong. We showed what grit and determination and a God damn 4-4-2 Gegenpress can do. You're God damn right management considers me 'untouchable', so with that said can we please relay our 'poor' pitch because it's embarrassing. Isn't 20K in the bank enough!?
