Decided to make my 16/17 season at Sassuolo a retirement home for some stars [long post] Posted: 23 Jan 2020 10:21 AM PST So I was bored as shit and having done too many different challenges to count, I decided for my 2nd season(playing on FM16 for reference) at Sassuolo I was going to sign older players who were essentially one foot into retirement just to keep things somewhat interesting and realistically see if they could do any sort of work. Part of the idea came about my first season when I got a 38 year old Antonio Di Natale on a free and he ended up having most goals and assists for the 15/16 season. I also originally was trying to plan to make a near full roster that was composed entirely of players who were included in the squads that made it to the 2006 World Cup but unfortunately I ran into some snags with either being unable to secure certain players due to visas, money, registration rules or them retiring and also I didn't want to have this being a total throwaway save where I had to do some editor manipulation to artificially get what I wanted as I intended to follow up the season after. Beginning of 16/17 comes around and I start to bring in a few older faces. 38 year olds Lucio and Didier Drogba, 36 year old Esteban Cambiasso and most notably Ronaldinho who I actually signed on as player/ass man. From the start of the season to the end of 2016, I had a total of 11 games where there was a goal scored in a regulation game by someone over the age of 35. Drogba getting 6, Antonio Di Natale getting 3, Ronaldinho getting 1 and Cambiasso getting 1. Unfortunately due to signing on an already planned retiring Drogba from MLS team Montreal Impact, he officially retired at the end of December of 2016 and his presence was immediately missed. Here is his final stats as the retired page leaves out kind of a lot, also worth mentioning how he held the fastest goal scored record for that entire season against a severely nasty Schalke04 side of all things. With the 2017 winter window starting up I decided to keep this train rolling by bringing in some more fresh old faces. With this I got 36 year olds Tomas Rosicky, Dimitar Berbatov and Dirk Kuyt, and a 38 going on 39 Miroslav Klose to cap off this old timer legends side. I was trying to get Steven Gerrard but he kept to his retirement plans with LA, Eto'o was too expensive to sign on and Kaka wasn't budging from Orlando. From this point on to the end of the 16/17 season, I had a total of 10 games where there was a goal scored in a regulation game by someone over the age of 35. Berbatov with 4, Klose with 3, Ronaldinho and Rosicky with 2, and Di Natale with 2. Here is the complete season's information of those old timers. Due to Drogba retiring early in the season, this is the last frame of info as he wasn't included in my final roster of stats for the season. We ended the 2016/17 in 8th place. Ronaldinho will remain my player/assman, Cambiasso, Kuyt and Rosicky are still here til end of 2018 season, the rest are retiring. Closing Thoughts: Playing a season like this was actually lot of fun and it was kind of comical to see games where I was essentially FM-ing the AI by getting blown away stat wise but grinding out a draw or 1-0 win with a goal thanks to such an older player. While not exclusively using the formation, I did actually dick around with some true Catenaccio formations that won or drew me games in aforementioned ways; my usage of Lucio(who I set to sweeper) was pretty much exclusive to those moments. Also as you can see in the final stats, Cambiasso got a lot of games and was super crucial for what I had going on despite how I did focus this whole experiment and post around goal scoring. As far as why my usage of Kuyt was a bit low, I bought him when one of the younger wings I had got injured but it turned out being less worse than anticipated and I just never really found that big of a need to constantly start him and risk pissing off better players. Lastly one thing that really surprised me was that Rosicky who I managed to have him not retire and stay on for 1 more season, kind of ended the season with really not that bad of stats for a player and position of his age. I'm actually stunned and can't thing of a time in my however so many years of playing this game have I seen someone who has that high of player value and stat profile outside the very usual suspects. I appreciate anyone who took the time to check this out and I definitely recommend if you're up for something different to give this sort of plan a spin some time. [link] [comments]

The 1v1 problems are ridiculous Posted: 23 Jan 2020 12:46 PM PST I've tried ignoring the glaring issues with the match engine this year but I just can't do it anymore. It's a genuine embarrassment how bad it is and I can't remember a time where it was this bad before It's at the point where it feels like the tactics you set up make no difference whatsoever to the result of the game and it comes down to one thing aboove all: The 1v1 issue. Not only are 1v1s more prevalent than ever, it genuinely seems that now they are the ONLY form of chance creation in the game. Seyting up a 4-2-3-1 to play short intricate passes with slower build up play to unlock the defense? The only chances you'll get are route one long balls over the top. Conversely, these are the only chances the computer ever gets. Want to set up defensively to absorb pressure and try to catch them on the counter? Well fuck you and watch on as you concede 3 goals to route one balls while your CBs are pushed up into their half. I'm tired of it. It takes the realism out of the game when 9 out of 10 goals are route one long balls leading to 1v1s. That shit just doesn't happen often in football. Hoping to God that SI fix it soon but I'm not holding my breath [link] [comments]

You have now played 30 seasons. Congratulations on your career. [iPad] Posted: 23 Jan 2020 10:50 AM PST So, I just finished 30 seasons of FM2020 Touch on my ipad pro, thought I share some thoughts. I only played with Atalanta and the overall strategy was to sell all my players over 25 years right away to heavily invest in U20 Brazilians and Argentinians since they only require little salary compared to European players. Sometimes I would buy 10-15 players during a single transfer session, loan most of them out, even for multiple years and then sell them at 3-4 times of what I paid for them (this is actually similar to what ManCity does in real life). I finished with a little more than €1 billion transfer budget and almost €10 million p/m for wages. The real game changer was when I unlocked "golden generation" quite at the beginning of my career (by winning the youth league a couple of times if I remember correctly). I got 2 strikers and 1 defender that were worth ca. € 40mio on day 1. I let them play right away and then sold them at ~100mio each after 5-6 years. With that money I basically bought 2 teams of under 20s and the cycle repeated itself. Overall the game is enjoyable, but some things could have been better: - I think (maybe somebody can prove me wrong) that team always plays with the same tactics, all 30 years, if they play with a 4-4-2 now, they'll play with a 4-4-2 also 30 years in, no matter which coach they have. I hope I don't sound too negative, I really enjoyed the game but I'm also happy that there's the 30 seasons limit on the iPad - free at last 😂 [link] [comments]
Best loan players for smaller first division clubs (FM20)? Posted: 23 Jan 2020 02:18 PM PST So I'm planning on starting a career with FC Köln but they have a very meager transfer budget. I was wondering which loan players would be ideal for a smaller first division side like Köln. [link] [comments]

sponsorship revenue plummeting? Posted: 23 Jan 2020 02:15 PM PST Started playing as Inter - I'm about 2054 at the moment.. First few seasons were great, sponsorship revenue really soared. I think I peaked about 230mil in one season. In the last decade, it has absolutely plummeted. So much so that it's getting near unplayable. I have to sell one or two star players every summer just to keep my balance above 0 - I'm currently only pulling in 75 mil euros a season in sponsorship money. Last 10 seasons has been decreasing every year. Anyone have any idea why? My director of football has 2* international reputation, but I dont believe he's involved in agreeing sponsorship deals (and stats are good). It's killing the game for me and making it unplayable, which is frustrating. Reputation wise I keep winning the league, the Champions League, most reputable club in Football... Keen for a steer.
