Currently in my second season with Frankfurt after 3 fruitful years with AC Milan.

The End of an Era

In the Summer of 2014, I saw somebody on Twitter mention Football Manager. Disappointed in the state of career mode in FIFA, and with it on a huge sale, I decided to give FM14 a whirl. It took me a while to get the hang of it, getting fired from multiple jobs. But finally I found one that stuck.

A club called Dunfermline in Scottish League One. I'd never heard of them but I gave them a shot. Now five years later, I'm still playing the save. They are now my favorite real life team and I even found out I have distant relatives that live in the city. One day I plan to visit Scotland and hit up a game (hopefully they make it to the Premiership by then).

It took me ten years to go from League One to winning the league. Now, I've won 7 of 8 titles. The last two years I have gone undefeated and won the treble. This season, I finished with 110 out of 114 points, winning the league by 28 points. My goal differential is +105. The only league games that are even a question are Celtic (and that's a stretch with a 2-2 draw then 2-0, 3-0, & 8-0 wins). And I've reached the ceiling of the Champions League. I yearly make it out of Group Stage. Unless I face an EPL team, I usually make the quarterfinals.

After 20 years, there is nowhere else to go. A single player that might be a slight upgrade costs at least half my transfer budget and 30% higher wages than my highest paid player. The league is a given and I can't improve my team to compete for the Champions League title. It is bittersweet but it's time to end my time with this team. I've loved the save, but it's now the same thing year after year.

I have no idea what to do next. I have FM19 but I simply don't like it nearly as much as FM14. Maybe I'll take the Rangers job. They were in administration at the beginning of the save and in League One with me. Since getting back to the Premiership they've averaged a 6th place finish, never winning it all. Maybe I'll try to salvage the team.
