How to not get addicted to this game

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 05:23 PM PST

    Hi all.

I've been an avid FM player since 14, and I was really enjoying this version. The problem, however, is that I get too addicted to this game and can't stop playing until 2 or 3 in the morning. Additionally, I'll just be thinking about the game all the time, even while I'm with my girlfriend. The game just causes me to be so unproductive that I just wanna watch FM YouTube videos and play all day.

It got so bad that a couple nights ago I deleted my save and the game, but I still can't stop thinking about it. Does anyone else have this problem? I really do love this game, but I don't want it to take over my life and cause me to miss opportunities. Does anybody know how I could play this game in a healthy manner?

Question about moving players within Red Bull System

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 06:07 PM PST

I just started a save with RB Leipzig and I was wondering if fm had a system where Leipzig would have a priority to sign players from RB Salzburg or New York like they do in real life. I am aware of being able to loan players out in the Red Bull system, but would I be able to pay less for a player from Salzburg or be able to match any sales they make with another club?

The Nothernmost Challenge: Welcome to Finnmark!

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 07:45 AM PST

    Greetings Managers,

Trivia time! What is the nothermost town of more than 10 000 inhabitants in the world?

Answer: It used to be the town of Alta, in Norway, but a few years ago it was overtaken by the town of Hammerfest, also in Norway, which grew to a population over 10 000. "Hammerfest" is a fantastic name opening many a great pun for a football manager career story.

Unfortunately Hammerfest plays at a level so low that it's not playable in FM20, so we'll be playing as Alta instead. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

    Alta IF

The squad of Alta IF is a semi-professional side, playing in the 2. Divisjon, the third tier of Norwegian football. 2. Divisjon is divided in two groups, the winner of each group is directly promoted into Obos-Ligaen. The second of each group face each other for the right to play agains the 14th of Obos-Ligae for promotion. Easy, right?

They play in the town of Alta, which looks to be rather beautiful, and has a population of about 20 000. The town is so far north that it has to play in an indoor facility, the Finnmarkshallen sitting about 1000 spectators.

To my regret, I find the kits and colors of the club somewhat ugly but hey...What do you do?

Finally, the club has decided to hire Jön Snöw, 19 years old, to bring it to greatness. I know that canonically Jon is 14, but that is unfortunately the youngest I could make him.

    The squad

I won't lie, I expected my squad to be absolute dogshit...And I'm actually very pleasantly surprised! Most of the players in Alta are at least somewhat adequate at their job.

    • I'm particularly enthusiastic about norwegian striker Mathias Pedersen. He's young, he's got some pace, he's got finishing ability...In short, he's the perfect trash-tier-league Poacher! In my experience that is the single most important position at that kind of level, and I'm expecting we might keep Mathias all the way to Eliteserien.

    Other notable players include:

I also have two promising younglings:

I would count only two of my players as disappointing, because of the money they cost compared to their ability.

    • First is dutch striker Guyon Philips who isn't bad per se, but I expect playing with a single striker up front and he is redundant with my boi Mathias Pederson and promising young man Hammari. I would keep him if his salary wasn't a whopping 1 400€ per month! More than minimum wage for a third-string player? There's no way I can possibly afford this kind of luxury! (My total monthly salary is just short of 20 000€ per month). I'll be looking to transfer him, for free if necessary, as soon as I can.

    • Midfielder Andreas van der Spa who I think is an ill-advised loan, costing us 1100€ per month for decent-but-not-great ability. I will be looking to terminate his loan as early as possible. Consider the "van der" in his name it's also possible that Jön Snöw is racist against all things dutch.

    Mercatø

I've been looking at some of my "usual suspects" for lower league scandinavian sides. My very first signing in almost every FM opus for 5 years has been danish striker Marco Ramkilde. The young lad always has perfectly placed stats and decent random potential. A couple of years ago, he carried my third-tier swedish side all the way to a dominant Allsvenskan side and the semifinals of the Europa League.

Unfortunately this year, Marco Ramkilde apparently suffers from a torn ankle ligament, and is out for 6 to 7 months at the start of the game. Knowing that he's now 21 and that I've already got myself a starting striker, I will not be recruiting Marco for the first time in years. I wanted to mention this because I assume that this injury is a real-life problem that has made its way into the game, and I wanted to wish Marco good luck. You have served me well and faithfully!

    • A rather cheeky signing that I will be doing is young Moroccan winger Bilal. He's a former Real Madrid youngster (quite the downfall for him I suppose) and has been on my radar as a dirt-cheap player who usually has some form of potential. I've seen him go as far as Ligue 1 substitute in previous saves, that is to say a superstar at my level. It's a gamble, but it gives me depth at the left winger position where I only had one player anyway.

My next objective is to find a good goalkeeper. From experience the second most important position in lower-leagues. So far I have not had any luck My spanish goalkeeper Dani Mederos will do for our first season but he's relatively expensive for us and I'm quite sure I'll be able to find better.

    The tactic

    • Not much to say really. This is what I expect we'll look like starting the season. Further adjustments will be made when I notice specific problems. For now I'm keeping things as simple as they can be.

All preparations are made, it is time to jump into the games proper and see just how bad Alta can get!

    Role suitability calculator

    Posted: 17 Dec 2019 07:21 AM PST

    Hello everyone,

I made a quick role suitability calculator in Excel. It's a very crude one only meant to be used as a quick way to compare players or to see if the player has the right attributes to be retrained in an other position.

    The calculator looks like this.

You can export your players attributes easy by using my view for FM20. I recommend filtering out goalkeepers. The calculator doesn't work for them because they have different technical attributes.

Export them to an Excel sheet (webpage) and copy the information in worksheet "print".

You can change all this information. Average, good, excellent changes the threshold for the color of the attributes. For example >16 = gold, >12 = blue, <6 = red.

N°. fill in the shirt number of the player you want to view.

For example I use this to quickly see which one of my strikers would be the best DLF

    Player 1

    Player 2

    Player 3

As you can see, according to my calculator Igor should be the best DLF however his attributes suit the Targetman position more. Take these numbers with a grain of salt, the only calculations in this sheet are taking the average of every attribute needed for that position according to the game. I don't differentiate between primary or secondary attributes and I don't take traits into account.

I've qualified for the Europa League in my lower league Belgium save by winning the cup ... while still playing in the second division! I'm going to get absolutely battered next season.
