My new chairman, a local investor, is an absolute legend. Asked for a higher budget, he proposed 5M, I asked for 7, and he didn't doubt it for one second. Push for promotion (I'm in the Championship) will be a lot less rough now thanks to this bald god.

The Career I've always dreamed of : a long long story (cause I lost everything).

    Posted: 03 Dec 2019 04:28 PM PST

This is a really sad day. Why? Let me back up a little.

2 weeks ago my laptop stopped working and I was told none of my files would be retrievable, as you can imagine, as a hardcore FM player this was devastating to hear, yeah I lost my courses too but let's not dwell on that too much. So I'd like to talk about my favorite ever save, where I managed to go unbeaten once and also have a stadium named after me, because I want to put it somewhere and I cannot stand the idea of losing it forever, so here it goes

In FM 18 I decided to start in the Championship, just to get once again the feeling of promotion to the Prem and the challenge of survival. So I picked, Hull City, only because the expectations were kinda low and the badge was nice.

First season is great, I reach the playoffs, small chance of going up but we do it anyway, we win on penalties in the Final against Wolves. The following season I spend wisely and then we manage to survive on the final day. Once the season ended and I got my budgets I decided to go for 2 youngsters : Leon Verstraete (CF) and Juan Munoz (GK) , both newgens. They play a role in the first team and Leon has an amazing first season with 12 assists and 8 goals in just 28 league games. Not only that, but we reach the Carabao Cup final after beating a dominant Jose Mourinho Man U in the semis on away goals. Our opponents? Wolves, again. They wanted revenge and it goes to penalties. Florinel Coman steps up to put us ahead.. scores. Wolves's turn to equalise. SAVED by Sportiello and we WIN IT. Which means Europa League. What a year it was, a year which included a 6-1 home thrashing of Man City. Moving on, our Europa League season goes incredibly well. Callum Paterson gets 11 goals and 11 assists as we beat Leipzig, Inter and Celtic on our way to the final, against Valencia. Tough game, they finished 3rd, we finished 13th, this wasn't for us. 90 minutes come and go and the result is... 3-0.. TO HULL CITY AND WE'RE IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE. I couldn't believe it, it was amazing. The season Leon Verstraete and Juan Munoz step into the first team we win a European trophy. Our entry in the UCL gives us a lot of money and quite a lot of it is left at the end of the window. But despite our spending, our PL season is awful, 12 games 11 losses 1 draw. In our CL group we have Dortmund, Inter and.. Valencia. We're screwed.. right? NOP, we dominate the group, get top spot and we're through to face Atletico. The board keep me, we start winning games and get out of the relegation zone in January. And then I pay 73M for Dave Shorthouse, the best AM I have ever seen. He was unbelievable. So first round of knouckouts. Hull City 3-0 Atletico Madrid, yes, you read right. Second leg we lose 3-0 and it goes to extra tims and I panic.. what do I do what do I do? Bring on Jarrod Bowen, scores a brace, final score 4-2, we're through 5-4 on aggregate. Quarter Finals -> Monaco. First leg we lose 2-1 away. It looks like our Journey ends here we can now focus on the league. Second leg comes on, not many expectations.. and we actually win.. 6-0 AND WE'RE THROUGH, thanks to a brace from, Leon Verstaete, I'll never forget that. Semi finals -> Bayer Leverkusen. First leg, another 2-1 away loss but it's not over, we did once we can do it again. Second leg begins, they score but we equalise before half time. 2nd half kicks off we score once, can we bag a second???? YES WE CAN. It's 3-1 WE ARE UCL FINALISTS. Our opponents? Napoli who just beat Real Madrid. 1st of June, Napoli vs Hull City 2022 i don't remember where sorry. We score with Jarrod Bowen but they equalise with Milik 15' before full time. Highlight comes on 92nd minute, a chance for us, Paterson onto Bowen, his goes in the box, he's brought down IT'S A PENALTY. OMG I can't believe it. 5 years at the club and we have a chance to WIN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, without even finishing top 10 even once. The captain Markus Henriksen is the one to take it as he always has but I think, NO, he won't score, no one will, except from the Prodigy, my pride, my joy, you know who it is, Leon Verstraete. He steps up, 93rd minute, my heart's racing, this is it, he'll either be a legend or a flop, no matter what je does in his career, this is it.....and he... SCOOOOOOREESS. 93rd MINUTE WINNER I'm running around my living room like everyone would and cheer as we have won the Champions League. WHAT. A. MOMENT. I then get approached by Barca, but I decline and guess who we face in the Group Stages.. Barcelona. We surprisingly managed to win both games and guess who got a hattrick in the first game at home.. That's right, Leon Verstraete. Anyway, the season goes on, we finish 8th but what about the UCL?? We face Inter in the R16, it's a win, we go through, no drama. Then it's Juve. We lose the first leg but do we give up? NO, WE WIN 4-0 at home and we're through. Bring on... Atleti.. tough game at home, but (i don't remember the results) WE HAVE REACHED THE FINAL, AGAIN. And guess who it is, Barcelona. They dominate us, go 1-0 up but we're not done, we can beat them, we have before. We equalise. 1-1, 10' to go, it's anyones game. They get a chance 86th, 2-1.. We're crushed. BUT THEN 91st minute highlight, cross from my left W, to my right W, GOAL, IT'S 2-2 WE HAVE DONE IT WE GO TOE EXTR... offside, it is offside and we lose the final. Heartbroken but I'm not done. The following season we finish 4th, back in the UCL, our group is a piece of cake but R16, Barcelona, can we avenge our demons? No, no we can't, we're out. But this season, this 7th season was special.. why? We WIN THE LEAGUE, Hull City are PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS, with 95 points, a record (in FM 18). I become a top Icon, and renew my contract for 2 years. Next season was crucial, i wanted to win it all. We start of with the Carabao Cup, one in the bag, FA CUP final guaranteed as well as a CL final 3 years later we're back. In the PL things didn't go as well, we finished 4th and our crown goes to Man City. FA Cup final day, WE'RE VICTORIOUS. CL final day now, vs.. you know who it is, Barcelona. Final result? 3 years later? 2-1... again.... FOR HULL CITY AND WE WIN IT. WHAT. A. SEASON. I have dons it all, every trophy in the bag, a treble. I have done my job here, and then Real Madrid come calling. I take the job, hard decision but I did it. Trophies won : 1 PL, 2 UCLs, 1Europa League, 1 FA Cup, 2 Carabao Cups

My time at Real was bbrilliant stayed 3 years and won everything. First season : UCL & La Liga. 2nd season : Treble. 3rd season... nothing. I get sacked having brought 5 players with me to Real. I become a fan favorite but nothing to be proud of. Trophies won : 2 La Liga, 2 UCL, 1 Copa del Rey

So after 6 months I get a call from, Borussia Mochengladbach. I accept, I like the project. After a league win and a top 4 finish their manager got the Germany job and after sacking the incompetent Frank De Boer I get in to get them out of a relegation battle. After making some business and buying some former players we manage to go the 2nd half of the season.. UNBEATEN. And we finish, 4th. What a year this was, I am back. Following year we finish 2nd, and lose in the CL 16 to... Real Madrid. But in January I buy a guy called, Aldin Zec, it's 2031 and he looks like a promising player. Season 3 at Gladbach, we're Bundesliga CHAMPIONS. Aldin Zec starts and OMG is he a player, 10+ goals AND assists in the league at 19.. incredible. Also, that season I notice an interesting piece of news in the media. Hull are building a new stadium.. I couldn't believe it, after countless and countless of "no" s they building a stadium for someone else, but then i see it, a stadium named after me. Needless to say that everyone close to me heard about it. Anyways, season 4, we win the league AGAIN, and lose in the quarters of the UCL toooooo.... Real Madrid, again...But we make the acquisition of.. Caio Henrique. Remember the name. Season 5 comes on, another league win, this time unbeaten, I have posted here too. We lose in the SEMIS of the UCL to... Real Madrid.. yes, I'm not joking. Season 6 now, we need someone to push us through, a quality player, so I pay 80M for Nicky Semmer, a left winger from PSG (How do you like that now PSG??). We win the league, a banality nowadays as the Bayern dominance has fallen and FINALLY beat Real Madrid in the UCL, in quarters, as I beat my favorite team Chelsea in the semis. Final opponent? Lyon. It seems easy, it was easy, 4-0 win, and my 5th CL. I'm over the moon. Season 7, my final season, given the end of my contract, I want to win the treble. And I'm close, a league win, a UCL and DFB Pokal final in the bag, this is it. My chance to fully rebuild a team. Also a Ballon d'or along the way for Aldin Zec was pretty nice. Unfortunately we lose the DFB Pokal final but the UCL is still up for grabs, against who? Hull City. What was probably gonna be the last game of my career was against, Hull City, a place where I am a legend. It was emotional. It was nice to see some of the players that stayed there, Juan Munoz was one of them. I forgot to mention, Leon was a dressing room leader for me at that point. So, it is time for the final, only one can prevail, and that was........... Hull City, heartbroken but a little bit happy to see my old team, my first love win the UCL after 10 years. It was what it was. A month later I leave the club, become a Gladbach legend, my 5th proudest moment of the save. Trophies won : 5 Bundesligas, 2 DFB Pokals, 1 UCL Also Aldin Zec and Caio Hernique were scoring goals for fun, both became Icons.

I take a year off, needed a break, and Southampton approach me. A young squad. Upper mid table, this is a good project. I take it. First season we get a second place finish and the FA Cup, but after sitting 13th in January, 4 POINTS OF 7TH, I get sacked. Nothing else of note happening.. Trophies won : 1 FA Cup

I couldn't finish on that. I needed to prove my self. Enter Liverpool with no top 4 finishes for 10 years. My time there? Iconic. First season finish 4th and an FA Cup. I also appoint a new Head of Youth Development : Leon Verstraete. Second season wss better, a PL win for the first time in 20 years or more, with a CL to go along with it. Things were looking great I was on fire. Third season brought us back to back PL wins and nothing could stop me. I jinxed myself. We finish 5th, I'm under fire, insecure job and no trophies, I have 1 season to save my job. And I do it. Another PL win as well as a Carabao Cup AND a Europa League. I have more time. I want the UCL, I want my 7th UCL. We have a good season, finish 2nd behind City, win the FA Cup but the UCL was a disaster. Lost to Dortmund in the r16. And then I saw the Hall of Fame, for pretty much the whole save, the best manager ever was Jose Mourinho, he was always so far. But then in 2046, I was there, top but just a few hundred points. I have done it, I'm the best manager EVER. I resign with pride just before the release of the FM20 beta. Trophies won : 3 PLs, 1 UCL, 1 Europa, 2 FA Cups, 1 Carabao Cup.

I didn't talk much about players or this could've been a lot, lot longer. Also, I didn't retire. I wanted to keep the save, it was awesome, 1000+ hours well spent, I couldn't have done it better if I could. The best moments of my life came in this game and i sadly have to say goodbye. It took hours to write this I hope you enjoyed it. This is the best game ever end of.

    After :

8 League Wins 10 Domestic Cup Wins 6 UEFA Champions League 2 UEFA Europa League

I decided to end the save. But now all of it is lost. Thank you for sitting through this, you're MY legend. I'm u/alxhvr and this, was my career.

18 years into my save, finally won my first top flight title!

Started this save in the English Championship about this time last year. Been through English Championship, Scottish Championship, English League One, French Ligue 2, back to English Championship, English Premier League, Portuguese Primera Liga, Spanish La Liga, French Ligue 1 and I have finally reached the top of the pyramid! I know it's not up there with taking Woking to the Champions League but my 18 seasons of striving have finally been rewarded. Sharing this to encourage anyone languishing in so-so mediocrity, you can do it to, any achievement is amazing when it's hard-earned! FM19 was the first I'd played since FM10 and I've only played this save the entire time so I'm dead chuffed, I lost 5-0 on the day I won the league but even that didn't take any shine off it.
