A fun, quick-ish and easy-ish challenge based on a TV series

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 10:12 PM PDT

There's a Norwegian TV series that I highly recommend to you guys if you haven't yet seen it that's called Heimebane (or Home Ground).

It's about a first division team called Varg (not a real team) that just got promoted back to the Eliteserien for the first time in years. They lose their coach just before the start of the season and their Director of Football hires a woman over their star player (played by John Carew) who was promised the job as he was playing as an assistant manager/player role the previous season.

The series is only 10 episodes and easy to get through. It's filmed really well and the acting is great. I believe it won a bunch of awards in Norway. And if you're a fan of dark/dry humour then this will be right up your alley.

Now to the FM19 challenge bit.

I did a bit of research and I believe that the team is loosely based on the real life team IL Hødd based on their location, having the same kit colours, and the same historic and local rival in the TV series - Aalesunds FK.

They're a team with a lot of history, but have not had a lot of success, only being in the Eliteserien a handful of times (the last being 1995). However they did qualify for the Europa League in 2012 after winning their first Norwegian Cup.

IL Hødd are currently in the second division group 2 in FM19 (and real life), but the Norwegian leagues in general aren't too difficult to gain promotion (or even back to back promotions) if you manage to sign a few decent free transfers and loanees.

I might be baffling on a bit and you may have no interest in this whatsoever but I am thoroughly enjoying this one when put into context with Home Ground.

Another bonus is IL Hødd's name is derived from Höðr, which was a gifted archer in Norse mythology, and means "battle" or "fight". And their club logo is an archer crouching with Hødd written on his shield.

If you've made it this far then let me know if you like the series, if you give it a crack and if you do, how you go!

    Youth development advice

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 03:31 PM PDT

    Hey guys.

I'm fairly new to Football Manager. Been managing Everton for two seasons. Finished 4th in the league and won the FA cup in the first, won the treble in the second.

I wanted advice on how to develop regens/youth players - 16-17 year Olds with 5 star potential.

Currently, I have some of the teenagers in the senior team, getting mentored by some of the senior players, but they are available for U23 matches. I also give them some cup appearances, and a few cameos off the bench.

Should I be keeping them in their own age bracket and let them work their way up as their current ability increases?

Also, is it better to send players out on loan, or play them in the U23 fixtures?

    Thanks!

Why does my national squad react negatively after every match?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2019 07:14 AM PDT

Spain offered me the job but even after a year on the job and no losses, a #1 ranking in the world European International League title, they react negatively after every game. What's the deal? Is it just because I have a low reputation? Is there anything I can do. It doesn't seem to actually be affecting anything, but it's annoying as hell to be producing and them hate me.
