    France ruined my career

    Posted: 19 Aug 2019 04:11 AM PDT

I start out as a nobody at Brescia in the Italian Serie B. A mid-table finish is expected, but I manage to win the title. Fans love me, players love me, the board loves me, even my wife looked at me again.

In the Serie A we're expected to go down. Especially because we lose our starman Tonali to Fiorentina. But no, we get 5th place and even beat some giants along the way(Inter, Roma and Milan are all beaten at home). This means Europa League and of course a well-deserved manager of the year award for me.

Alright, I think, it's time for a step-up. I'm too good for this little club now, I've made my mark. Arsenal offer me a contract for next year, but I'm not going to wait an entire year so I decline. AS Monaco offer to sign me immediately, so I go.

In Monaco I'm not the star I was in Brescia. The board, players and fans are unforgiving. "Where's the direct passing you promised?" "You call Djibril Dib a high profile signing?" It doesn't help that we're 6th when I promised a run for the title.

    I get fired before Christmas.

Marseille comes around to sign me. I tell them sure, but after this season ends, so I'll have a fresh start. They agree.

New season starts. Of course the exact same thing happens. We're 10th when a Champions Cup qualification place was expected.

    I get sacked before Christmas.

Unemployed again. Oh wait, what's that? Brescia have sacked their manager, too. Surely they'll want me back. I apply, but no, they don't even offer me an interview. "You were with us not too long ago, we're looking for something else now."

One of my greatest FM moments. 3rd season in Milan, lost 1st leg of CL quarter-final 1-3 to Liverpool, slowly getting ready to sell Krzysztof Piatek so I can find some better striker for the next season. And this is what Piatek did. Fucking amazing.

Anyone else get completely heartbroken when FM hits you right in the feels with recently passed footballers?

    Set Pieces

    Posted: 19 Aug 2019 08:53 AM PDT

    Hey you! Tele-marketing jingle

Yes you, lazy manager or new player!

Tired of seeing your 6'6 striker outside of the box whenever there are corners?

Perhaps you'd like to stop the little guys with the different shirt raping your keeper alone, while the entire defense looks at them on free kicks?

Maybe just looking to add at least a tenner on your season goal tally?

Snow here smacks the top of the bench has the perfect solution for all your managerial needs:

    Customized set pieces!

Oh, I already can hear you saying "But Snow, I don't know how to do them" or "Default ones already good for me". Bullshit I say, you can't possibly fuck up (unless you do it on purpose) your schemes more than the default ones.

Time to high press that brain of yours to let out all of those Johan Cruijff football creating juices and put yourself to work.

What? Did you expect me to do all the hard work?

You know that just giving you schemes isn't going to work on your team, right?

Well, however I can give you few tips on how to get you started. But don't tell Klopp or he will get furious.

Anyway, first thing on ATTACKING corners:

    • You want your striker (preferably either really good in headers or modestly good with a little bit pace) to attack the first pole. Strikers are useless out of the box, and efficiency is boosted if he sharply attacks on the first pole using his ability as a striker paired with his pace/header. Have a lil'guy instead? He can still do good on attacking the first pole, he will score more anyway than "go ahead" and "stay out of the box". If your striker really suck, you can use your fastest CB to attack the first pole.

    • Highest CB to attack the second pole. You want the guy to stay there and go for the highballs, so that he can either smash them in or do a head pass again in the middle for an easy tap in, where the keeper will be already down on the ground.

    • AP/BBM/DLP, attack the box starting from the outside. You want the guy to either smash it in or be good enough to pass the ball to continue the offense and not start an enemy counterattack.

    • The best CM alongside the other CB inside the box on "stay ahead", these guys are decoys to attack the central part of the area and occasionally either score an header or a tap in

    • IF/W marking the keeper, the guy is good to annoy the keeper and in making him do mistakes

    • FB both on stay behind, sometimes is good to leave behind also a CM if he isn't good on headers but has good tackling/marking/passing

    • other W/IF on stay outside the box.

    Wasn't so difficult no?

    What?

    Okay some DEFENSIVE tips:

    • on free kicks your W/IFS/ST are useless in defense, make them be the wall instead of the default CMs (good to mark someone else) or put them in a position where they can breakthrough on a counter once the ball is retrieved.

    • Again on corners, the guys previously mentioned are not the one supposed to mark the man or stay in the area. Use the CMs instead.

Now I leave the rest to you. I know you can do it and feel proud of your set pieces, which will win or save you so many games, as they are a fundamental of the sport. Think how you can improve, what movements will be made. Spend 15 fucking minutes there instead of looking for the 45th Colombian wonderkid you can't sign since you are in the third division.
