    I've been playing since Championship Manager and when I was younger I didn't have a philosophy on signings, but since I have it's always been geared towards youngsters and usually once a player reaches 30 I've started looking for a replacement even if he's still a world beater.

    I'm currently West Ham and just dicking about a bit. Modest expectations and big income mean every now and again I just fancy selling a load of players and replacing them with youth as per. A few seasons ago I sold loads then had work permit nightmares on deadline day so ended up signing a transfer listed James Milner as he can cover anywhere.

    James Milner deserves his own post. Honestly. One of my best signings on FM ever. His stats don't look up to much, his match ratings aren't anything special but he just does everything. Never gets injured. He's 36 now and barring a couple of cup games he's appeared in nearly every game over 2 seasons.

    ​

    Another - loaned a 37 year old retiring Thiago Silva as I was a bit short at CB. Signed him as back up and he's pushing one of Declan Rice or Reece Oxford out of the team, who were two of the players that made me chose managing West Ham in the first place.

    How have I played a game for 15+ years and never realised how amazing old players can be?!
