I've started a youth only challenge in the 12th tier of English football

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 07:26 PM PST

I'm a Middlesbrough fan, so naturally when I discovered the existence of Boro Rangers, who play in the 11th tier North Riding Premier Division, while searching for a team to do this challenge with, it was surely a match made in heaven. After a few database hitches, mainly surrounding me wanting to have the proper badge as it is basically a copy of the old pre 1986 Boro badge, I ended up having to morph a team in the 12th tier Northern Alliance Football First Division into Boro Rangers via the editor and go from there.

While I knew a youth challenge would be difficult, I thought surely at the 12th tier the players are all going to be so shit that it really won't matter a lot and we should be able to certainly win more than we lose. Surely my thousands of hours of experience and my past successes in the lower leagues taking AFC Telford to Premier League, glory would carry me through the initial challenge and allow me to try and mold a team of local youngsters in my image and power through the divisions, blazing past teams week in week out and going on daring cup runs.

Wrong. The season opened with a home game against the reserve side of Blyth Spartans, whose senior side sit in the 6th tier. Tough enough start, but how good could they really be? Very, it turns out, as they hammered us 5-1. Thinking they just used a few senior players, I felt almost glad to get that one out of the way and move on. The media had predicted us 3rd, and were favorites for almost every game so I had a bit of confidence behind me and a few allegedly 5 star players (although with a JCA of 2 I think my Assistant just made them up) in the side. Our next game was another home tie, against the Felling Magpies, who comfortably beat us 3-0. Another defeat, this time 3-1 at Prudloe Youth Club, had me concerned. We followed this up with a 2-1 win away at Bedlington before 2 successive defeats, shipping 8 in the process. The fairly miserable form continued (averaging 2 defeats for every victory), but on the eve of our match at home to Blyth Town on the 3rd November, I decided to embrace the turgid football that Pulis has served up at Middlesbrough, and set a team up that he would be proud of. Route one is the fancy term, however "punt it long over the top and hope for the best", would be far more accurate. A 5-1 win over Blyth had me dreaming of glory and patting myself on the back for pulling off what could only be described as a tactical masterstroke, and following that up creditable draws at some top sides had me thinking we had turned a corner.

Once again, wrong. One win in the next 7 had all of our 15 fans (literally - probably the players' parents) baying for blood and demanding that my head be placed on a pike and paraded around Middlesbrough Town Centre. The board came to me with an ultimatum, 10 points from the next 5 games or it was curtains. The first game was a 3-3 draw, the players fought for me and I thought we had a chance. 2 home games against a side as bad as us (Bedlington) and Prudloe Youth Club followed, but what also followed was two utterly spineless performances from my band of youngsters, leaving us dead last. On New Years Day 2019, after a 2-0 home defeat to Prudloe, the axe fell. Blyth Spartans Reserves were certainly not to be underestimated. Knocking it about like 1970s Brazil, they sit with 17 wins and a draw from 18 played.

Sacked from the 12th tier after losing to a youth club. This is rock bottom. Despite that, and I can't believe I'm saying this, I can't wait to try it again.

If I play in a smaller country, could I ever earn enough money to compete on the European Stage?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 03:06 PM PST

I was either thinking of playing as KuPS in Finland or a team in Poland. Would it be possible to grow enough to compete across the continent?

Claasen and @timo@ custom DBs Not compatible with 19.3.0

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 09:10 PM PST

So i loaded claasen and @timos@ megapack into Fm19 19.3.0 and half of them error up after being added.
I t works fine when i load 19.1.0 database with them, Which is fine.

This onyl means ill be missing out on the updated player attributes and transfers and stuff right?

Why does a new DB screw up editor data so badly?

Also in the editor where is the part where i can basically cheat and make the hiddens of all generated players within a certain range.

    A FM newcomer!

Hi everybody, I just bought FM, and it's the very first time I will be playing this wonderful game. I must admit I feel a bit lost! Do you have any advices to give to a new player, especially in choosing a team? I see most players are managing a low-division team, but for me the challenge is too hard (and too long)! Thanks!

    Revenge of the bald fraud

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 05:01 AM PST

I've tried writing this post a few times. Inevitably ending up with a long winding story. I'm not sure if I'm a good enough storyteller to give it credit, but I feel like I have to try(I'll add a TL:DR at the end as well).

I've been playing FM since about FM2012, getting quickly hooked on the spreadsheet simulator. I was never a natural and would see varying degrees of success. Since I would usually play as some of my favourite teams I wanted to see them succeed and I wanted to do well in the game. So I turned to savescumming and simming matches when I needed some help padding my results. As years pass and I become more familiar with the game my savescumming become less and less frequent, usually just happening in case of serious injuries or losses to hated rivals(Curse your name Molde) So I might not be winning the champions league with Rosenborg anymore, but I get to enjoy gradually developing my skills. In January I picked up FM19, having skipped FM18.

As I started my regular run(Managing Rosenborg and then moving around until I get a chance to manage Liverpool) I made a solemn decision. This year would see me play the game straight. No savescumming come hell or high water.
I breeze through the years in Norway, some seasons are tighter than others of course, but the behemoth that is Rosenborg Ballklubb soon enough dominates Norwegian football and after 3 straight league wins I'm approached by a struggling Inter, hoping that this Norwegian hotshot can get them up from 7th place in Serie A.

I deliberate for a while, but eventually accept. Coming in towards the tail end of the italian season. My first few months are mostly unremarkable, ending up with a 6th place finish. The one bright spot is winning the Euro Cup securing champions league and avoiding talent drain. So it is with a sense of cautious optimism I start plotting for my next season and taking on the goliath that is Juventus. This is the 22/23 season and while Inter have been struggling for some time now, Juventus have been winning the series every year since 11/12. After Alllegri left the position Pep Guardiola came in and quite handily won Serie A.

It is here I first lock horns with the man that will end up so closely intertwined with my own managerial career.

The start of the season is rocky. My boys playing like world beaters some days and folding like a house of cards others. The bright spots being my record signing Ruben Neves quickly showing why I paid the sum I paid and Ivan Perisic showing that wisdom beats youth as he starts racking up goal-points from his inside forward position. Juventus show off their initial dominance by quickly claiming top spot in Serie A and make it personal by beating me in the Italian supercup and at their home grounds in the series. I jealously look up from my perch around 3-4th place. But as the season drags on my boys get more and more consistent. They are settling into the system and morale is rising as results improve, we've found the flow zone. Slowly and surely we start gaining on Juve, and before you know it we've knocked them out of the cup and as the season nears a close they have a dip in form and I shoot up into 1st place. Nerves start setting in as I realise I might actually win this and I feel the call of savescumming every time a result goes against me or one of the boys gets a knock. Yet I stay strong.

My strength of character is rewarded and we end up pulling away and sealing the title with a couple of games to spare. The fans sing my name and I'm floating away in the sweet endorphin rush of my victory, knowing that this was 100% earned, no savescumming this time, only hard work and fraying nerves. Pep is fired. I chuckle, but feel a bit bad for him. Nothing personnel kid.

Amidst the celebration I notice the bittersweet news item that Liverpool won the champions league. I'm happy for them getting some glories after several years of playing second fiddle to Man City in the league, but I also realise that takes away from any chance I have of ousting Antonio Conte to the position I really want. Oh well, better buckle down and try to repeat my italian accomplishments. Then, the twist! Antonio Conte sees the rudderless Juve and leaves his position at Liverpool to take the reigns. I immediately fax/email/post/messenger pigeon Liverpool my application! They can't decline a serial winner. Having dislodged Juve from their 11 year streak, maybe I'm the man that will finally dethrone City after their 6 consecutive wins of the Premier League. With expectations of being in pretty much every single final and winning the premier league in addition it is safe to say the bar is set high, but they think I'm the man for the job. I quietly whisper my thanks to Pep for his part in my ascent.

Another year, another club. I am lucky enough that I get to take over Liverpool in the summer break and can start forming them in my image before the season starts. A nice contrast to the rescue job I had to do at Inter. The Gegenpress is still ingrained in their DNA and it doesn't take me long to settle comfortably. I even manage to fend off PSGs interest in Alisson(He comes to my office after, I explain that I see him as a leader of the team and he's immediately placated. What a star!) We fly out the blocks, quickly shooting up towards the top of the table. Man City keeps the pace and the 5-0 bollocking they give us is the only serious blotch on our record(Winning 5-2 at Tottenham after being down by 2 goals at half time is the absolute highlight). However the high intensity gegenpress takes its toll on the aging Salah, Mane and even Firmino. As we go into christmas and the new year my team slowly becomes more and more patchwork. Results suffer, and before I know it I'm in 4th looking up once again. I soldier on, Mane out for a month? Grit your teeth and bear it. Fabinho so out of breath he can barely run? Still got 3 matches next week, someone get him an inhaler. We wobble, we recover. Looking back I still curse when I see some results(0-2 Leeds!) but I know that if I pull through it will be so much sweeter. It almost seems like I will be rewarded once again as City suddenly stumble and we move up the table. Turns out there is a new challenger trying to dislodge the champions. Chelsea is the dark horse, quietly racking up points and making headway. Their manager...Pep Guardiola! After his unceremonious dismissal at Juve, Guardiola had gotten another offer in the summer shakeup and while going underneath the radar he's been plotting to add additional silverware to his trophy cabinet. It's now the very end of the season. Chelsea sit at 90 points after 37 games. I have 87 points and a game in hand. I'd be ahead if not for Everton scoring a winner against me in the 94th minute last match! With a superior goal difference I know that as long as I win both matches I should come out ahead(already picturing scenes from the City-QPR match of the 2011/2012 season). And at the same time, even if I lose I'll feel alright. I wouldn't be in this position without Pep and I respect him a lot as a competitor, but more than that I respect the story we've made and the fact that win or lose it'll be on merit, not because I have a load button. That was it. Turned insanely windy and long, I apologise. I've always been a big fan of the meta, and especially in games like FM and CK2. I've read some great stories on this sub and finally felt like I had one of my own, I hope you enjoyed it.

    Screenshot of the table: https://imgur.com/a/UaAoDe8

TL:DR: I stopped savescumming, got the position of Liverpool manager thanks to the bald fraud, but now he might take the league title from me as a retribution.
