The Ballad of Keyendrah Simmonds Posted: 11 Mar 2019 08:28 AM PDT I like to take my time and get really invested in my players when I make a save. Usually in a given edition I only have 2 or three saves, but in FM19 I've only had one save. I always start with Southampton because they're the team I support; it gives me a special pride whenever I am able to take them into the Champions League. In FM19 it's more difficult than previous years to manage Southampton because the new owner is unwilling to invest literally a single penny, and the squad is overrun with completely average players on a massive wage bill. The funds are pretty low too because any money the club could have got on selling players is wasted with an insane amount of people sent out on loan. The end of the first season comes around, and I'm proud of my Europa League position. Acquisitions like Miguel Almrion for $9 million and Frenkie de Jong for $30 million helped propel me forward, even if my strikers like Charlie Austin couldn't even hit the stand behind the goal if they tried. Masterful defensive performances from Wesley Hoedt of all people helped me a lot. I get the email from my assistant manager, Rickie Lambert, about teams releasing their players on a free, so I ask my scout to look at a few of the players on the list, not expecting too much to come from players I hadn't heard of. How wrong could I be. Ross Wilson comes back after scouting a 19 year old lad named Keyendrah Simmonds, showing his PA is 4 stars, and his CA as 1 and a half stars, so I take the gamble on this kid. What's the harm? Next season rolls around, and I sell Charlie Austin, Shane Long, and Danny Ings to fund my Andrea Belotti purchase from Torino. My three strikers are Belotti, Gabbiadini, and this Simmonds guy. Suddenly, I get an email after the first match of the season. Andrea Belotti: Injured after running. Out for 6 weeks. Two Days later: Manolo Gabbiadini: Injured after a challenge in training. Out for 2 Months. Alright Keyendrah, lets see what you can do. Rotting in the City youth team, to starting for Southampton in the span of a few months. He promptly goes on to score basically a goal a game for the rest of the season. I fall in love with the guy. The man I gambled on a free is keeping the other two strikers from getting gametime. Gabbiadini is pissed but I don't care, Simmonds is basically winning matches for me on his own. His value skyrockets, and he becomes a 2 and a half star player for me. I wish I had taken screenshots at the time. I make it all the way to the FA Cup final this season, and who else would it be against, but Manchester City. The team that didn't give Keyendrah Simmonds a chance. Belotti was on a good run of form, and as he was the better quality striker I decided to start him instead on the big stage. I should've known to go with my gut. It's a tough and tight game, but in early in the second half that prick Marco Asensio scores a rocket to put City ahead. I'm gutted; we hadn't had many chances all game, and Belotti had bottled a couple. I quickly hook him, and put Keyendrah in. Give him the good ol' "Go show em what you're made of" pep talk. 81st minute: Goal! Keyendrah Simmonds. I fist pump in my chair. He's proven himself against his old club. The story has already been written, even if we lose in extra time I'm so proud of the guy. Wanted him to do the Adebayor celebration. But wait, 88th minute: Goal! Keyendrah Simmonds. I do a knee slide in my apartment. He's done it! He's won the FA Cup for Southampton, against the team who kicked him out. You couldn't write it. He's Man of the Match, and I make sure to praise him post match. In the off season, he even gets an England call up! Keyendrah thanked me in the press even for giving him a chance to let him earn the call up, and he scores on his debut. It couldn't get better than this. The next match comes and goes for England, and I get a horror email. Keyendrah Simmonds: Torn Cruciate Ligaments. Injured after Jumping. Out for 6-8 Months. I'm devastated. Felt a real pit in my stomach when I read that email, and I told him to fight through the injury and be ready when he came back. He gave the "This injury won't get the best of me!" response, but unfortunately, it did. He was never the same, and when he did come back, he couldn't score to save his life. His confidence was gone, his speed was gone, and his knees were just not there anymore. I give him every chance I can, but I can't keep playing a striker that can't score! I have to get the results. I hold on to him as much as I can. I really try. I give him run outs in the League Cup, some FA Cup games, and a league game every now and then to see if he can get his golden touch back. At 24, I sell him to Millwall for 450k. Tell him he's welcome back anytime. The seasons change, and after a couple seasons I forget about him. Randomly the other day, I thought about him and his heroics for me and Southampton in that FA Cup final, so I look him up and click on his profile. I'm almost brought to tears at what I see. Keyendrah Simmonds retired from football at age 26. Could I have done anything more? What could I had done to save his career after the injury? He showed so much promise, such an instinct in front of goal. I feel like I let him down. He deserved so much more for his career. He seemed destined for greatness, only to fall as a forgotten name for the future. He could have been a legend, and I feel like I could have saved him. No one deserves to retire at 26. If you've made it this far, thank you for reading my rant. Needed to let my feelings out. A real tragedy how the player I took a gamble on, repaid me immensely, but fell off so quickly. Keyendrah Simmonds, you will always be a Southampton legend in my eyes. [link] [comments]

Who has rubbish stats but always plays well for you? Posted: 11 Mar 2019 05:57 PM PDT for me, that man is Josh Sims. I seem to regularly play him in the premier league and he performs remarkably well. I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this phenomenon? any stories of players who punched way above their weight for you? [link] [comments]

Is there a mod or tool I can download to see the current and potential ability of players in game? Posted: 11 Mar 2019 09:15 PM PDT I know there is the in game editor, but is there a skin or a tool that allows me to see the ability of the players. I just want to know the potential of my 36 year old striker and see the how good he was in his prime. [link] [comments]
