I'm enjoying making FM experiments on the database at the moment (I shall put them on workshop soon) but I'm running out of ideas. So far I've made:

    • revamped Welsh league with Cardiff, Swansea etc in Welsh leagues.
    • US promotions and relegations
    • Brunei revamp (inspired by The Box from FNG, with his own club made as well)
    • Giving a non league team a perfect youth system

Are there any others people want to see?

Am I a coward? My Football Manger story.

    Posted: 07 Feb 2019 09:47 AM PST

I bought FM18 a few months after it came out. Having played a lot of FM16 I felt as though I had the necessary experience to really bring in something great to the game.

My manager, Richard Cranium, had a comfortable life as semi-pro player from the USA and arrived in England with a continental B license. To give my self a little bit of a challenge i started off unemployed and interviewed for many teams and hoping to land anything. After a few interviews I landed the job for Cambridge United in the EFL league 2. This was a whole new challenge for me as before in FM16 I just messed around and went to rich teams and won a lot with no remorse for the poor teams of football. With Cambridge though I felt just an energy of helping this struggling side while hoping to stay with them for a long time and achieve glory and silverware.

My first two season were amazing with back to back first place finishes giving me promotion all the way to the EFL championship league. I was confident of staying in the league. All the managers, pundits, and bookies had Cambridge to finish 24th but i was determined and fierce. The locker-room for a time was nothing but hell as the team endured 9 winless matches in a row. However with swift decisions and the strongest of wills Cambridge prevailed and we finished 18th. Some saw it as "The Great Escape" others saw it as waiting for the inevitable; waiting for Cambridges downfall.

With the new season approaching and a transfer budget that unfortunately did not exist, I looked at our youth and took a "moneyball" look at free agents and tried to survive another year. This was a mistake. I was looking death straight in the eye and calling his bluff. The players knew it, the staff knew it, but me? I was blinded by past glories and my ego. Then the dream turned into a nightmare. 22 matches without a win. 22. The locker-room was finished, I was the laughing stock of the whole league and world of Football. No wins, just draws and losses. It felt like a chore to play this game, I just felt a terrible for the club that i couldn't take them beyond 18th. I resigned. Like a coward I resigned and fled with my tail between my legs. Some of the staff followed me out and I was swiftly replaced by Gareth Barry. My time at Cambridge had come to an end.

A month later Swansea City, sitting at 8th place in the Championship League, hired me and I immediately went back to work and brought them to 2nd to finish the season. Cambridge got their first win of the season in March and went on the get relegated at 24th place. Gareth got them 4 wins, 4 more than I could with them that season.

I am now sitting at 12th in the Premiership with a team that has high ambitions and pocket book with numbers ready to make that happen. I do check on Cambridge every now and then to see how they are. Currently as we speak they are mid-table of League One with Gareth still in charge but they seem to be doing better. Im happy for them, truly I am. Part of me wishes I stuck it out and went down with the ship but i abandoned it when it needed me the most. Maybe I was the problem and I didn't outgrow them but they outgrew me. Whatever the case may be I continue my managerial career with a lot more weight on my shoulders and scars hidden. Im hoping to stay with Swansea for a long time and hell maybe one day I'll find my self back in Cambridge, older and wiser to redeem my self and take Cambridge to where I promised I would when I first joined them.

One of my better signings, bought for £14K, offer at £35.5M. VNL team Dulwich Hamlet would make a nice £4.4M too...

[Discussion] Tell me your stories of being really average

    Posted: 07 Feb 2019 08:43 AM PST

Every time I see people's saves, I see stories about how they won the champions League with Stockport or something...

I don't enjoy it. I'd love to hear some peoples stories who are just really average, who spent 8 years in league 2 or something similar.

Make me feel slightly better about how average I am, please.

You've been on loan with us for the past 3 seasons. You just left and came back.

Bugs the crap out of me that these players seem to forget the fact they've been at the club on loan before, but God forbid, I let you leave once because you want to play with higher quality players and never did.
