    It is 2026/27, my first ever UCL in football manager is achieved with CSKA-Sofia. After loosing the europa league final to Chelsea before a few years, I strenght up my team. The winning goal was scored by my forward who had 56 goals this season.

    It took me 21 seasons, but I finally managed to take Hungerford Town from Vanarama South to winning the Champions League.

    Things finally clicked when I signed an American wonderkid striker (only discovered the player when he scored a hat trick against my team in a pre-season friendly) that managed to develop into the best player in the game over the 7 seasons spent in Hungerford.

    A tragedy in 3 acts

    Let me preface with this, the promise system is so clunky, unpredictable and sometimes downright illogical that I just avoid it at all costs at this point. I'd rather make a player mad straight away than promise him anything, even a lollipop, for fear that he'll start a locker room riot and burn down our stadium over it being strawberry flavored when he wanted citrus.

    That being said, the siren call of being able to renew my team without too much attrition led me to unwisely click a Promise at my start of season Team Meeting. Reckless fool, I know. I promised that I would have to sell off some of the players for the new season. Surprisingly, players took it well and I got a fresh batch of promises from some players that I could transfer list them with impunity. Finally I can take one action at the club without being second guessed by half the squad! Obviously this sounded uncharacteristic so I expected the worst. I was not disappointed.

    As soon as their status changed to "transfer listed", the two players instantaneously materialized in my office, agents in tow and a chip on their shoulder. I expected nothing less. What really rubs me the wrong way is that, sure, you can wave it away as this being an example of players breaking their promises but not only does it not show up as such in the promises section but it doesn't even give me an option to call them out on it when they come into my office for their fortnightly whining session. A bit rich considering that if a player believes I've broken a promise he'll call a vendetta upon me, my family, close associates and pets. I might as well go into a Witness Protection program at that point because it'll take him a good long while to begin to let it go.

    All of the reply options I was given lead to the player indeed complaining about being transfer listed. I tried. I also savescummed the hell out of it and went back to the blissful time before I ever tried interacting with one of the many wondrously broken features that litter this otherwise excellent game.

    I guess I just wanted to share my tale as a warning to those thinking of doing the same and sort of a reminder for anyone that takes the game too seriously. It's still just a game, with some shoddy poorly implemented features. Don't try too hard to rationalize every single outcome as a perfect simulation.
