Been playing FM since 2010 but decided (since a certain worldwide event has given me more spare time than usual) to try and build up a team from my home nation. Toughest challenge I've ever done. Been playing for 585 hours and counting.

I've also only been signing British and Irish players for an added challenge. You can see my other reddit post if you want a quick recap of the early years but basically, my strategy has been to pick up youngsters on the cheap from smaller sides and develop them with my own maxed out facilities.

We won the Europa League in 2035, but we were still a long way from beating the likes of PSG, Real and Liverpool consistently. By 2041, the majority of that Europa winning team were at their peak and we were still not really close to the top level. We fluked our way to the semi-finals once in 2039, but usually went out in the first knockout round. So I decided to completely rework the squad, selling a number of club legends and splashing out on top players from England.

Up until then, my record signing had been £18M and my highest earner was on £16k p/w. Over then next 3 years, I bought in Oduor for £38M, Wilson for £83M, Tammang for £89M, Stacey for £90M and Mbala for £78M. Wilson is on £88k p/w and all of these players are on huge wages. In the last 5 years, we've spent £436.5M on players and have come extremely close to failing FFP each year.

Despite all the success, the clubs income is incredibly low. We only have a 2,144 seater stadium and still struggle to sell it out, despite our world class team. The Welsh League has also drastically improved, reaching 3.5* reputation and 12th in the co-efficients. Prize money and TV money is still pitifully low, only about £500k per year, so we're really relying on Champions League money and player sales to stay profitable.

Anyway, going into this years Champions League, I knew we should qualify for the knockout rounds comfortably. The team is pretty strong and well balanced. I was only really afraid of PSG, Real and the English teams. Chelsea were the current holders and probably the best team in the world in my mind, with Frank Lampard still in charge. Liverpool and Manchester United had also recently won it, whilst Norwich were the reigning Premier League champions (yes, really).

First we beat Larne in the play-offs to reach the groups. We got a pretty easy draw with Rangers, Benfica and Craiova. We won 5 games to go through as winners. Next up was Porto who gave us a tough tie in Portugal, but we thrashed them at home.

Next was Chelsea. We outplayed them at our place, but some poor finishing and sloppy defending meant we had to settle for a 1-1 draw. Now we had to get a result at the Bridge. But a brilliant first half display gave us a 3-0 win and we were through to the semis.

AC Milan were surprise semi-finalists, beating Liverpool. We were unlucky to draw 1-1 at the San Siro but we took them back to Wales and dispatched them comfortably 2-0 to reach our first final.

We were up against PSG, one of the dominant teams of the competition. It was a pretty awful game in truth. I thought they won it in the 90th minute but it was ruled out by a marginal offside. In extra time, 20 year old Connan Ong, on as a substitute, scored on the rebound after his initial shot was saved to give us the lead. They had a second goal ruled out in extra time and we held on for a historic title.

Very proud of the team. We had 4 players in the squad for the final that came through the academy, including Man of the Match Kieran Carew. I'm going to play for a few more years and see how far I can take this squad. The average age is only 21 so there's plenty still to come. After that, I'll resign and take over another Welsh team and try to knock these bastards off their perch.

Stars Clarification - Is it possible to have a team of all 4+ star players?

    Posted: 07 Mar 2021 06:30 PM PST

I'm a relatively new player still getting a grasp on the game, player ability, stars, stats, etc.

Just to clarify, I understand that star ratings are relative to the rest of your team. Does that same thing apply when looking at other teams? For example, I'm managing Dortmund in my save. When I look at Bayern's squad, they're almost all 3.5 stars or higher, with several players being 4+ stars (while I have a broader range with only a few 4+ star players). However, is that only because their squad is being compared to mine? As in, if I began managing Bayern, would there be a larger range in star ratings?

As a follow-up, would it be possible to have a team with all 4+ star rated players? or would that just completely go against the logic of having the star system to be able to scale players ability relative to their teammates?

I appreciate any responses! Loving the game, but it can be overwhelming at times haha

FM Legends from the past + FM21

    Posted: 07 Mar 2021 10:42 PM PST

List your favourite FM players from the past years of football manager. Your go-to players or players that have surprised you how good / bad / weird they were. They can be a players from any league or nation.

For this year, mine could be a English striker Kaine Felix (Guiseley). He is the Harry Kane for the lower leagues. Absolute maniac for scoring goals. +20 to 25 goals every single year.
