Football Manager Caribbean Dynasty - Part 1

Football Manager Caribbean Dynasty - Part 1

I'm taking a trip back to Football Manager 2014 to see if I can create a football dynasty, signing only players of Caribbean ancestry. Why FM14? It could be because a lot of footballers who are now household names were still yet to decide who to represent internationally back in 2014. Also, second nationalities of players are only often revealed much later, when players have already committed themselves to their declared nation. But, the main reason I'm using FM14 is that it's the last version of the game I bought. So there! I tried

In this universe, Jamaican Olympic sprinter, Usain Bolt, fresh off his 2012 heroics, is in the market for a football club of his own. Which club is that? Why, Bolton of course, who have been renamed from Wanderers to the Bolton Sprinters. As well as investing a large percentage of his considerable fortune into the club, Bolt has put a surprising transfer policy in place. Only players with Caribbean ancestry can now be signed by the club. After seeing such dominance in athletics, Bolt believes that Caribbean nationals can dominate on the football pitch too. He has also replaced the current manager with a man who is no stranger to the Caribbean, John Barnes. No new contracts can be offered to current squad members who do not fit the new criteria. So, what does this all mean?

Only players who have first or second nationality status in the 25 island nations listed above can now be signed by Bolton Sprinters. The Bahamas, Bermuda and Turks & Caicos are not included as they are not truly geographically located in the Caribbean. Nationals from Suriname, Guyana and French Guiana, despite participating in the Caribbean Cup, are also not eligible for selection. Despite the obvious limitations, historical European colonisation of the islands means that a number of European footballers have Caribbean ancestry. France produces footballers hailing from Haiti, Martinique, Saint Martin & Guadeloupe while the former Dutch Antilles of Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten and Bonaire means several Dutch nationals have Caribbean ancestry of their own. The UK counts Anguilla, BVI, Cayman Islands and Montserrat as overseas territories while Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, St Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & Trinidad and Tobago are all part of the Commonwealth; these countries gained their independence from the British Empire in the second half of the 20th century. The large proportion of English footballers with Caribbean ancestry is due to the Windrush Generation who moved to the UK after World War 2. Both Spain and the USA have considerable influence in the Caribbean too, with Spain colonising Cuba, Dominican Republic as well as Puerto Rico which is now a territory of the USA. The USA's proximity to the Caribbean means in more recent years, Caribbean nationals have chosen to emigrate to the USA instead of Europe.

While it may seem like there is a limited talent pool (nations like Montserrat have only five thousand people), the Caribbean is home to around forty million people so finding enough decent footballers should be possible.

With that in mind, the following leagues have been loaded in the hope that enough regens of sufficient calibre are generated to keep the game interesting. It also stops promising Caribbean nationals representing these teams internationally as there are plenty of other options.

    England - Championship, Premier League

    France - Ligue 1

    Holland - Eredivisie

    USA - MLS

Usain Bolt's takeover of the newly christened Bolton Sprinters has raised eyebrows, notably as he has registered himself in the playing squad and handed himself a ten year contract (another reason of using FM14 is that Bolt starts the game at 26, just about to hit his prime footballing years). While his technical stats are poor, his physical and mental stats are incredible.

I gave Bolt a CA of 125 which is why I assume his pace and acceleration are not at 20 even though that's what I gave him in the editor. Apart from Bolt and adding several hundred second nationalities to players and unchecking the 'declared for nation' box for those players yet to be capped by their national team, all other players base stats are untouched. I've looked Transfermarkt, Wikipedia and dozens of football forums to try and include as many players as possible and I may be wrong on some but let's see how it goes. One addition is to add a couple of affiliates for Bolton in the Caribbean to in an effort to get a more varied youth intake. Usain Bolt has also kindly invested £45,000,000 into the club, thirty of which has been reserved for player recruitment. Looking at the shortlist, there are several names that might jump out that are still yet to declare for their national team.

As you can see, none of these top players consider themselves Caribbean so will not be able to be signed if they choose to represent their country internationally. There's an obvious temptation to just sign the best players and just moving them on when the time comes but to encourage me to sign true Caribbean nationals, I've set up a points system to gauge success, aside from simple performance. This will also encourage recruitment from range of countries as you can see Jamaica and Guadeloupe second nations make up the majority of the better players at this point. Obviously, the plan is still to try and win as many games as possible so I won't just farm lots of different nationals to win points at the expense of league form.

Goal or assist for Usain Bolt - 1pt

Contracted player declares Caribbean nationality - 5pt

Best Eleven selection (Caribbean national only) - 5pt (2pt for sub)

League win with declared Caribbean Best Eleven - 50pt

Cup win with declared Caribbean first eleven - 25pt

Contracted player scores at International Competition (World Cup/Gold Cup) - 5pt

Each nation makes 10 league appearances in one season - 5pt

Best Eleven selection is 11 different Caribbean nationals - 100pt

    All 25 Caribbean nations make 10 appearances - 200pt

If anyone can think of any additional rules to award points for, let me know! I'd consider 100 points a season a victory. The obvious challenge is that any player who is capable of winning league titles will most likely chose to represent the more dominant national team (England, France, Holland) instead of their Caribbean national team. I think it will be impossible to get the last point as I haven't seen many players from Bonaire or Sint Maarten come through as regens in some of my test runs.

A final reminder of the rules!

    - Only players with first or second nationality of Caribbean ancestry can be signed.

    - Bids for current Bolton squad must be accepted, no contract extensions can be offered.

    - If a player is capped by a non-Caribbean national team, they must be immediately dropped and sold.

Wish me luck, this is going to be a challenge!

Hello friends. Got the game free on epic games like a lot of you and don't really know what I'm doing.

Been playing With Southport and I got this absolute monster centre half from Russia. Checked the IGE and he's already rated 108 with 197 potential. He's also built like a brick shithouse and looks ridiculous in game which makes me chuckle 193cm/171lbs at 15 years old haha. Screenshot of said monster Just look at his beard lol !

Is it rare to get players that highly rated in the game at all or do a few appear every year ?

So i'm managing Liverpool and i won UCL but i lost Premier League and i dont know im sure i know the reason. The thing is now im understanding that if the players are tired you are not getting good results even tough you have a world class team. So i want to ask you. Do i need 2-3 players for all positions to win a treble and i need to switch them regularly? Or i am doing something wrong please help me.

I dont think FM is for me: A preseason friendly story

For scouting, is having strong Scout attributes more valuable than having specialized country knowledge?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2020 05:31 PM PDT

Relatively new to FM -- I usually just try to hire the best scouts I can by attributes and let my Chief Scout automate their assignments, but doing this usually leads to having a max of ~30% of world knowledge, with 3 or 4 scouts overlapping with full knowledge of Spain or Italy (for example) and no knowledge whatsoever of, say, the Middle East or Asia. Been thinking of switching up to a more manual approach and assigning more specialized scouts to their regions of knowledge, but I can never seem to find a good scout who's knowledgeable about some of the more specialized regions like North Africa, who also has solid 17-20s in Judging Player Ability/Potential/Adaptability. If I hire some of these special Regional scouts and send them out to scout prospects in their knowledgable regions, will they still be able to find good young prospects and wonderkids with their lower stats? What should I be prioritizing when it comes to building out a set-it-and-forget it scouting network? I'm fine with taking the time to building out the network and making sure I have each region in the game covered, but after that I'd like to just let them go find prospects and attend scouting meetings and not have to micromanage them beyond the initial setup.
