My youth intake was pants but this has intrigued me. Youth player, comes in, plays in the trial match, does ok, so I offer him a contract. He then twists his knee in training, so he's off for 6 days! DAYS! Not weeks, months or years, and yet he's contemplating retirement due to injury

Revenge of the Sixth--how my 6th penalty taker helped me avenge my failed transfer for Leon Bailey

    Posted: 27 Jun 2020 06:05 PM PDT

It was the beginning of 2022. Winter was at its peak. I was 7 points clear of second-placed Leipzig in the Bundesliga, having won the title the previous year with Dortmund. A front line of Haaland, Sancho, Reus and Thorgan Hazard absolutely annihilated everyone else in the league and Bayern were too inconsistent to catch up to me when I dropped points.

In the middle of the winter break, I get an offer of 70 million Euros for Thorgan Hazard from Guangzhou Evergrande. I'm not one to sell my starters in their prime, especially since Hazard had got the most assists in the league for me that season. However, Hazard would be turning 29 in a couple months and I figured selling him now for 70 million was a good financial decision considering that I would be trying to offload him for 30-40 million when he entered his 30s a couple years down the line anyway.

After some deliberation, I stalled on Guangzhou's offer to give me time to sign a replacement. I looked up my shortlist and saw that Leon Bailey was available for around 35 million, so I immediately put in a bid of 20 million in for him. After some haggling over the fee, I had an offer accepted for 27 million and began negotiations with Bailey's agent.

This agent was, to put it mildly, an absolute wanker. He demanded 180k a week and a 25% sell on clause alongside an yearly wage rise of 10%. To put this into perspective, my highest earners (Sancho and Haaland) were on 165k a week. However, I didn't want to lose a player I desperately needed so after some negotiating, we settled on a 150k weekly salary and a 5% yearly rise.

Benjamin Mendy had ruptured his ACL mere months after I signed him to replace Raphael Guerrero (who decided that Arsenal were 'a bigger club' than Dortmund) so I was also in the market for a left back. I couldn't find any world class LBs willing to join me in the January market and I had failed to sign Sergio Reguilon (more on that later) so I bought Maximillian Wöber as cover for both CB and LB as Mats Hummels wasn't getting any younger.

Two in-game days after I offered a contract to Bailey, I accepted Guangzhou's offer for Hazard. He left on good terms with me. I kid you not, 30 seconds after Hazard joined Guangzhou, I get a notification that Man United had offered 20 million for Bailey. I wasn't too concerned about this because I had bid much higher than that amount. However, the next time I click 'Continue' I see that their offer was accepted and within a blink of an eye, Bailey had signed for them.

I was already on bad terms with United because they beat me to the signing of Sergio Reguilon two summers prior, which forced me to buy Mendy in the first place. Now, they had hijacked my move for a winger I desperately needed and I was left without a RW with 4 days to go in the window.

I panicked and sent in loan offers for every talented RW I could find. I somehow managed to bring in Francisco Trincao on loan from Barcelona. I was furious and was praying that my run in the CL wouldn't be affected by Hazard's departure.

Fast forward 4 months, and I was celebrating a successful title defense and a DFB Pokal victory. Haaland ended the season with 36 league goals and Trincao had done pretty well at RW, with 5 goals and 7 assists.

In the CL, I had shithoused my way to the Semi Finals by winning on away goals against Man City and 7-4 against Zebre. I put in 'shoot on sight' orders and Emre Can (god bless his soul) had scored two worldies from 40 yards out in both away games.

In the semis, I had taken a 1-1 draw away at the Parc de Prances thanks to (you guessed it) a goal curled in from distance by Emre "German Lampard" Can. In the home game, I was leading 2-1 on aggregate due to a Haaland penalty when Icardi was sent clean on goal by Neymar in the 87th minute with just the keeper to beat, but Andre Onana showed why he was my record signing by deflecting it onto the post and the chance was gone.

The final whistle blew and I was ecstatic. I had been walloped 6-2 on aggregate in the Ro16 by Liverpool the previous season and now, I was in the CL final and one game away from a treble. In the final, I was going to face Man United. The script had been written. It was set up for the perfect redemption. I was even more thrilled when I saw that United had finished 5th in the league so they HAD to win the final if they wanted CL football the next season. Winning this match would have been the ultimate 'fuck you' to United, Bailey and Reguilon.

On the eve of the final, I reminded my players that they wouldn't get to play in the CL final every year and motivated them for the match. I put out my strongest team for the final: Onana in goal, Wöber Ferro Hummels and Hakimi in a back 4, Can and Axel Witsel as a midfield double pivot and a fearsome front four of Brandt, Reus, Sancho and Haaland.

In the 14th minute, Brandt picked up the ball in his own penalty area, spun Aaron Wan Bissaka and played a long ball to Haaland. I had been training my Norwegian prodigy to beat the offside trap for months and he did so fantastically, going around De Gea and putting me 1-0 up.

After sustaining heavy pressure for most of the match, I hit United on the break once again. Sancho crosses early to Haaland who slots it home, but VAR disallows the goal for offside. Not 2 minutes after this incident, Martial goes down in the box and United get a penalty (this proves FM mimics the real world). Bruno Fernandes scores and we're tied at 1-1. Extra time becons. Brandt had done nothing after the initial goal so I shifted Sancho to the left and brought on Francisco Trincao. Hakimi had picked up a knock so I brought on Thomas Meunier (signed on a free from PSG in the summer of 2020, what are the odds of this happening irl? 👀)

In the 102nd minute, Meunier plays a short pass to Trincao. The Barcelona loanee dribbles past Reguilon (sweet revenge) and crosses into the box. The cross is a bit wayward and is behind Haaland, but it falls perfectly to Captain, Leader, Legend Marco Reus, who fires it into the top corner. We're 2-1 up with 15 minutes to go.

I park the bus and set a low defensive line. Leon Bailey had done nothing since coming on to replace Martial. Then out of nowhere, Paul Pogba picks up the ball 30 yards from goal and fires it straight into the top left corner. I am beyond stunned. The goal had been caused by Emre Can giving away possession cheaply near the centre circle, but in my eyes my German B2B midfielder could do no wrong so I blamed the goal on scripting.

We go to penalties. I am sweating bullets. Haaland goes first and sends De Gea the wrong way. Bruno scores for United. Sancho and Witsel score for me, Rashford and Pogba score for United. 3-3 after 6 penalties. Max Wöber (suck on that, Reguilon) converts to put me 4-3 up. Leon Bailey takes the 4th United penalty. He steps up, fires it to the right, and Onana saves. I am literally jumping in my room at 3 AM. My fifth penalty taker is Marco Reus.

You can't write a script like this. Your captain, in his twilight years, having scored in the CL final, stepping up to take the spot-kick that wins you the treble. It's almost too good to be true. And it was.

He sends it straight down the middle and De Gea doesn't move. Juan Mata steps up and equalizes the shootout at 4-4. At this point I am ready to close the laptop and rage quit. I am a Chelsea fan irl so this penalty miss triggered my PTSD (John Terry flashbacks).

The dream was over. I was probably gonna bottle the remaining penalties and lose the shootout.

Emre Can was my sixth penalty taker. I couldn't watch. I made a mental note that if he missed, I would walk away from my laptop to spare my eyes the pain of watching pixelated Leon Bailey lifting the UCL. Thankfully, Emre "Bavarian Iniesta" Can once again saved my skin by sending DDG the wrong way and scoring. Harry 'Slabhead' Maguire walked up for United's penalty. I covered my face with my fingers and watched as Andre Onana became a BvB legend and won us the Champions League.

I had done it. We were treble winners. Emre Can had completed my redemption against United and Bailey. I imagined my managerial avatar running around the pitch with Ol' Big Ears as Bailey watched on. That'll teach him for snubbing me. Enjoy playing against Belarusian farmers in the Europa League. Goddamn idiot.

I was ready to take a bullet for Emre Can at this point. Nothing could top the adoration I had for him at the end of the 21/22 season.

He was sold 4 weeks later to Bayern Munich when he asked me for 300k a week. Fucking mercenary. Never rated him anyway.

I used the 70 million I got for him to buy a certain Sandro Tonali and promoted Sergio Gomez to the first team to replace an ageing Axel Witsel. Using the remaining Can money to buy an unsettled de Ligt was an added bonus.

As for Bailey, he sat on the bench for the next few seasons as United bought Dembele while I won multiple Bundesliga titles and 2 more CLs. Know your fucking place, trash. I managed to get Trincao permanently for 16 million and he now scores 20+ goals a season.

It was all part of the plan.

Simulated 200 Years into the future (With files)

Context: I was getting bored of the save I was on before this project and wanted to do a Journey Man in the future. I hoped there was a save someone else did for a similar time but couldn't find one. So I did it myself. I also wanted the top 5 leagues and all there lower divisions loaded as well.

So I managed to simulate 200 years and also make saves for 50, 100 and 150 as well. I thought I would share it here just in case someone else wanted to do something similar.

    Premier League 2218/2219 Finish

    Recent Ligue 1 Winners

    Champions League Recent Winners

    Save Ideas:

Norwich City: After winning 7 Premier League titles and 2 Champions Leagues it has been 50+ years since they have last seen title success and now find them selves struggling to stay in the Premier League.

Reims: After winning the Ligue 1 13 times in a row they have now been in a dry spell for 80+ years and a Champions League win still awaits them.

Real Madrid/Barcelona: After being dominant in Spain for 200+ years they now find themselves in the 3rd Tier of Spanish football without any hopes of a return to grace starting soon

Dortmund: They have tried there best to return to the top and compete for years at this point but now find themselves stuck in below the Bundesliga.

Empoli: After a legendary title win which stopped Juve's 19 years in a row streak in the league. Empoli now find themselves in the 2nd tier wondering if they could of pushed for more than the one.

These are just a idea from each nation. There's more to find in this save if you look a little bit.
